I used to live in Denver.  Boulder is beautiful, but CU is full of coastal posers who either wanted to get away from the crowd or couldn't get into a coastal school.  I'd live in Boulder, but yeah, it's not something I'd brag about, especially on a UT board.

I used to live in Boulder.  It's beautiful, but ugh.  It's a bastion of pretension "decorated" by women who look like Grizzly Adams and smell like mustard gas.  Give me Old Town Ft. Collins and Denver over Boulder.

TFB has a Lanning non-offer update if anyone has it.

Carrington seems well-liked and appears to have done a good job. I’m for keeping him, but wasn’t there some weird “opting out” tweet he sent around the time the Herman firing rumors were peaking?

It was posted earlier, but here you go.

Spoiler

In my previous update, I noted that the reports about Sark offering Dan Lanning sounded fishy. However, yesterday, that was strictly speculation.

Today, I was able to confirm via a source with knowledge of the Texas DC search that Lanning was not offered the job.

Source said, Sark is casting a wide net. Source added that Sark knows this DC hire is the “most important hire on his staff” and Sark also believes the Texas DC hire is one of the most coveted. So, he’s approaching this like he has a shot with just about anyone.

On the BC retainment. Anyone know  his contract status. If it’s a one year rollover type. I could see him being kept on to help with this class with the hope he can also excel in Sarks new recruiting environment. If he can then all is good, if not at least he can leave with the experience of working with the new system.

Imho hes def worth a year if he’ll take it. The guy is really tapped in and vibeing with TXHSF staff and players. He’s a good dude and likable af so if he were to head to USC that would be a great pickup for them. He likes it here, I hope we can keep him.

We know he is worth a year but if he can’t work well in the new system then he is not as valuable. Not sure going to USC right now Is a good move for him.

-Im sorry, I’m getting passionate. Sarks gonna make the call that fits but if he were to be able to keep BC I would say that’s good. If he doesn’t, then I guess he’s being paid $5mil to setup a staff and I’ll just hang back, sit in the stands and watch what happens.

BC knows this state well and has made a lot of inroads at places that haven’t paid off yet but look to in the near future. We’ll see how it goes.

In the last three pages of the “coaching staff” thread there are literally less than 10 posts about assembling the new coaching staff.

Just like there’s other threads on this site that are for bitching and moaning.

It’s like what’s was talked about 10-15 pages ago.  There’s fucking nothing to talk or speculate about.  We’re at the same fucking spot today that we were 3 days ago.  If you don’t want to wad through the shit, either stay off this thread till it jumps 20 pages in 10 minutes or scroll through till you see tweets, screenshots, etc.

You fuckers bitching about free information is incredible.

He's not bitching about free information.  It's more about posting in the appropriate forum/thread.  This thread might as well be titled, "so, what's on your mind right now?".   I'm not complaining - most of y'all are having good ol' fun wading through a shallow pool of meaningless shit - so, have at it.  And, this pool of meaningless shit could be organized into smaller puddles of shit, but for whatever reason, the Surly posting guidelines have completely been ignored for these coaching search threads.

And once again, I'm not complaining.  Just pointing out a double-standard, if such a thing can exist on topical discussion.

2 years under Pruitt, huh?  Left because he was smart or saw shit coming?  He was with Boom at UF.

Thanks for the link. He's only been at South Carolina since February and Beamer was planning on keeping him on so I'm not sure what we can take from that, other than the new guy thought he was at least worth keeping on. Came up through Saban guys like Pruitt and Muschamp so I guess he knows what this thing is supposed to look and feel like.

I didn't have any opinions on Chang but I have zero qualms with the way they were evaluating talent. It was the one area where I felt Herman's staff really excelled. They definitely missed out on some studs they should have landed but the second tier guys could mostly play. Not a ton of bread on this roster.

I have a feeling that Gideon is being positioned for a role that is going to be heavy relationship based for all recruits,  HS coaches, and additional stuff that a Carrington does but is allowed to visit recruits. With a dash of on field coaching as well.

sark will not use one of our 10 coaching positions for “a dash of on field coaching.”

So today we've gone from hand-wringing over Joseph and Gideon being the coaches in the secondary and needing to bring a third guy in to now pushing Gideon into a primarily off-field role with a "a dash" of coaching mixed in, all based on potentially spurious rumors over Carrington possibly leaving and possibly staying. If there's one thread which never fails to deliver takes completely out of left field, this is it.

As previously discussed 20x, Gideon is an "up and coming" coach. It's extremely likely someone (or more than one person) that he respects or trusts told Sark to fucking hire this guy. He was prioritized, and it wasn't for his catching ability.

That someone would be Will Muschamp.

It almost feels like they hired Gideon prematurely with the expectation that Muschamp was coming and that Banks wasn't, then people changed their minds. Now we have two special teams coaches and two safety coaches. Nothing against Gideon and I'm not saying he was a bad hire at all, but this staff's construction would make a lot more sense if he wasn't on it.

Gideon, although he hasn't much experience, has coached CB's. Coaches coach, they aren't necessarily always specialists. You will have plenty of people qualified to coach CB's as actual coaches or analysts. For instance, Duane Akina used to be an Offensive Coordinator. Look it up if you don't believe me.
