it has a chance to be a very low floor and I'm not sold on the potential high upside.  this guy failed upwards.  He has to be the luckiest man on the planet at this point.  Saban is the reason Alabama scores 47 points a game not Sark after Dark.  this is probably the worst of all outcomes.  Urbs is laughing his ass off.  What a disaster.

Explain how being picked by Saban to be the OC of the most dominant program in football, and then leading that offense to it's most explosive years in program history is "failing up."

He may end up being a bad hire. No reason to just make shit up because you're unhappy.

Go look at his predecessor at Bama, Mike Locksley. He's 5-12 in two years at Maryland as HC

He battled demons. Many of us have. I hope he never loses that battle. I hope he can remain sober and be a decent man

I'm worried about how he handles the intensity of the coming seasons, but I'm even more worried about his drinking problem when he gets fired in a few years.

He can't do this job. He will fail. We haven't just set up a man to damage his career, we've taken a sick human being and set him up for relapse.

CDC has found a way to go from bad to worse.

We hired him to coach football. Not teach ethics and run a battered women's shelter.

I live in Seattle, know some UW donors, etc.   I don't have any inside scoop or rumors or stories that you can't already read about on various forums from past years.  But he was a wreck at UW, and pissed off more than his fair share of people.  It wasn't just the drinking.

From what I understand, it was more of the same at USC.

He may turn out to be a great coach and win a lot of games, but it seems odd to me that the best UT could do was to take a gamble like this.  His record as head coach is not any better than the coach he's replacing, and he's got a drinking problem.  I see the possible upside; I just assumed they could find someone to gamble on whose possible downside wouldn't be so... publicly embarrasing.

On the bright side, you don’t ha e to pay the buyout on the downside risk. CDC playing chess and shit.

All I ask is that if we lose, it's because the other team is actually better than us. Not because we got out coached all game, didn't play our best players or have them on the field when needed, made multiple stupid mistakes(and then be told that it's fixable).

Good Luck.

Cheers and drink up!

No more stupid penalties

So because Mike Lockskley sucked, the poster I was responding to was correct in saying Sark "failed upwards?"

Did you quote the wrong post?

Saban has had 4 OC's win NC's.  dude was a failure as a head coach and got fired at USC.  I'm not making anything up.

Interesting how some of the most vociferous Fire Herman people think this was a disaster of a hire.  Per some credible sources, we asked several proven championship coaches to come and they didn’t want to.   Beyond those it’s all a crap shoot.  Who else should we have hired, since you were all in on firing Herman?   I mean the only other gettable name that seemed to at least nudge the needle was Campbell.  So I have to assume you were Campbell or die.  Or am I missing somebody better who would have definitely come.

Fair enough. If you think he failed as OC this year, safe to say you've got some pretty high expectations.

no he didn't fail as an OC this year.  He was great given where his team is.  Saban is the constant, many OC's do great under him.  the problem is he failed as a head coach.

I'd say you should lay off the meth, but I know that's impossible for Oklahomans.

You would think Saban would have averaged 47 points per before 2019 if he could just do it whenever he wanted.

And Sarkisian hasn't failed upwards. That's the dumbest thing people are saying about this. He took over an 0-12 Washington program. Babies on this board like to think Texas is a laughingstock. Sarkisian took over a team that had just played 0-11 in the most laughed about rivalry game in the country in decades. And lost. He turned that program around to where they were 9-4 with actual decent talent.

Then he went to USC and guided them with around 60 scholarship players and drank himself out of the job.

Then he started over as an assistant and climbed the ladder.

Huge red flags on this hire but failing upwards is inaccurate.

as a head coach he has absolutely failed upwards.  it took him 5 years to get to 8 wins at Washington and then got fired at USC and now he's the fucking head coach at Texas.  agree huge red flags with a big potential low floor but we're Texas its what we do.  we have a limit on what we will pay a head football coach and Sark met the mark.

I'll be done complaining eventually today but yay 5 more years of 8-9 wins.

Well, there were a few stops in between the fired at USC and now he's the fucking head coach at Texas.

Can he stay sober in Austin? Seems like a bad choice for that, plus having to win conference titles.

He stayed sober in the capital of US strip clubs (Atlanta) and where there's shit else to do but screw and drink (Tuscaloosa).

Not the political approach you'd expect statistically from gooner methheads, but the world is full of surprises. Either way fuck off and double fuck off with the politics.

Lmao no clue what you’re trying to prove here other than you’re clearly mentally ill or just insanely stupid and probably incredibly lonely. On top of that you’re just adding to the well deserved perception that Oklahoma fans are ignorant trailer trash T shirt fans. Good job though either way, please keep posting.

I’m slowly warming up to it. I don’t know why, but I’m more excited about Sark than I think I would have been with Kelly.

I like his story even if it makes me nervous. We’ll see who he fills his staff with. The last two coaches whiffed with the first staffs and we knew what would eventually happen.

maybe because like all of us you have no other choice.  this will end badly but he's here for 4 years minimum unless there is a relapse or other issue.  Herman must have been a dipshit fuckup of 11 on a 10 scale.
