Caleb Mitchell recruitment will be interesting.  If/when aggy offers, they'll sell the Shemar/Von/ect Desoto history and I think one of the $9.95ers says he's got some aggy fans around him or in his family.  But we've gotten way out in front with the offer and already getting him on campus so guess we'll see.

IT Scoop:

QB Cole Welliver, Marcus (Flower Mound, TX) - 2024:

Texas hosted one of the top passing prospects in the 2024 class for an unofficial visit on Saturday. The 6-foot-6 signal-caller and his family thoroughly enjoyed the camp and one-day trip.

“It was good,” said his father, JJ Welliver. “(UT) has an amazing stadium and heritage that come along with it. It was definitely hot and humid. Cole's still trying to get used to it. But overall, he had a great time.

Mike at Night (Pt. 2): Looking at the 2024 quarterback class in Texas

Spoiler

2024 is shaping up to be a banner year at the quarterback position. Several big names have already emerged in the state of Texas with more popping up every day. Here's a look at some of the names on the radar.

Marcos Davila, Midland Lee

Davila holds early offers from Illinois State and Kansas, and he flashed a big arm with big size at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. Davila operates from the spread and shows the athletic ability to move and extend plays with his legs. Davila had several strong showings in the spring for Texas Flex 7v7.

Cole Welliver, Flower Mound Marcus

Welliver came to Texas from Washington with a big reputation and a bigger frame. At 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, Welliver has been active this spring playing in several different events and showing off a smooth release and accurate ball with a tight spiral. Welliver already has the size college teams covet, and he should show off his ability on the field for Marcus this year.

Karson Gordon, Fort Bend Ridge Point

Washington State is already on the Houston-area prospect, and it’s easy to see why from what he’s put on tape so far. Gordon showed the ability to make multiple throws and the athleticism to extend the play and get outside the pocket. Gordon is a true dual-threat who can take off at any time and score with his legs.

Michael Hawkins Jr.., Allen

Hawkins appears to be the next in line at Allen. The son of former NFL defensive back Mike Hawkins impressed several times during the spring for the Eagles and performed very well during the SMU camp in early June. Hawkins has a great combination of arm strength and mobile ability with his legs.

Dylan Raiola, Burleson

The son of former NFL star Dominic Raiola is already generating some early buzz. He’s picked up offers from Georgia and Washington State so far, and he’s anticipating a big year on the field for Burleson. A two-sport star who’s accomplished in football and baseball, and he shows off a big arm and the ability to make just about any throw on the field.

Mabrey Mettauer, The Woodlands

Mettauer has the most early buzz with five offers including one from LSU. The 6-foot-5 passer showed off great tools in the spring despite some inconsistent results on the 7v7 circuit. He’s been strong in camp settings earning him a few big offers. Mettauer is expected to start this year for The Woodlands and should show more on film.

Brad Jackson, Cy-Creek

Jackson got some run as a freshman on varsity as the signal caller. Playing at that level, Jackson showed great pocket mobility and throws it really well on the run. He also showed great decision-making ability and operated the offense with precision and skill.

Derek Lagway, Willis

Baylor already has an offer out to the big signal caller, and he impressed with his performance at the Texas camp last Saturday. With a strong arm and the ability to drive the ball downfield, Lagway put together some impressive film in his first year on the job for Willis.

Carter Noyes, The Woodlands College Park

Noyes played sub-varsity last year, but he’s been able to show off his tools on a few different occasions this spring. Noyes throws with precision and touch and shows great timing. He should get more of a look this year for College Park.

JC Evans, San Antonio Brandeis

Evans flashed some with a big frame and arm playing at one of the better programs in San Antonio. Though he has a long and unconventional release, Evans shows plenty of arm talent and strength. Evans is more of a project at this point, but the tools are there for him to develop.

Others: Heath Graf (Maypearl), Ryland Walker (Smithson Valley), Julian Knox (North Crowley), Devin Lippold (Houston Clear Lake), Hauss Hejny (Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal), DJ Bailey, DeSoto, Deyon Batiste (Cy-Park), Trey Owens (Cy-Fair), Gael Ochoa (El Paso Pebble Hills)

If Heath Graf has any relation to Steffi, I'd offer him sight unseen

Roach

Spoiler

— Texas will resume camps this week and one player to watch will be 2024 Burleson quarterback Dylan Raiola. Raiola camped early in the season, but he's been invited back by AJ Milwee who has been forging a good relationship with the family. Raiola is the son of former Nebraska star and NFL offensive lineman Dominic Raiola, and he's been on an absolute tear in the last few weeks. After camping all over the country, he's picked up offers from Georgia, Florida State, Nebraska and Washington State. Texas loved his first camp performance but wants to see some varsity film on him before moving. A return invite to camp is a big sign and Texas would be in great shape if they did offer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Raiola the Nebraska player who said something to the effect of "The Eyes of Texas is the most terrible sound in the world?" He HATED us with a white-hot passion.

"I hate Texas," center Dominic Raiola said. "They're this high-and-mighty deal. I don't like that song either."

Texas players and coaches sing The Eyes of Texas after every game.Last season, Texas players hoisted Brown on their shoulders.

"I had my helmet on. My head down," Raiola said. "It was cloudy and kind of dark. It made me disgusted to hear that song. It made me sick to see them celebrating on our field."

he's probably off the NU steroid regimen now though, so the rage has probably quieted down.

Biggins on the offer

Spoiler

Sayin is the top QB out West in the '24 class and is on the short list when talking about top overall QB in the national class. He has been active and camped at several schools this month picking up offers from Miami, Notre Dame, Florida and Georgia. I think the only school he worked out for who didn't offer was Clemson and that's because they have a pretty strict 'no offer' policy for freshmen. He's a very gifted QB, didn't play a ton as a freshman because his older brother was a senior but should put up monster numbers this fall. He's another Danny Hernandez pupil and routinely out-throws Maalik Murphy, AJ Duffy and Malachi Nelson during workouts. Real clean, smooth easy delivery, very polished already, good feet and mobility and extremely accurate. Needs to get bigger, stronger like most freshmen but like his upside a lot.
