If you don’t have a scholarship you don’t have to enter the portal. Duh.

There are a ton of non-scholarship players in the portal

Yeah, as Fud said, that's actually not true.

About half of D1 football players in the transfer portal are walk-ons. All of those fear-mongering stories about the high portal numbers were super disingenuous. They were including a bunch of walk-ons that were just looking for a scholarship.

From Eleven Warriors -

Ryan Jacoby, a third-year guard, entered the transfer portal on Monday, per Rivals. He hadn't yet taken a snap in his collegiate career and was destined for reserve duty once again this fall.

He's the first Buckeye player to leave the program since Tyreke Johnson transferred in May and ended up at Nebraska.

Jacoby played 54 snaps at right guard in the spring game. His name hasn't come up in conversations about the construction of the 2021 offensive line, however. He likely would not have appeared on the two-deep depth chart if he had stayed.

In 2019, Jacoby had arrived in Columbus with Noah Potter as 1/2 of the additions from Mentor High School. He was a four-star recruit ranked as the No. 283 overall prospect and seventh-best player from Ohio in the cycle. On the day he signed his National Letter of Intent, Jacoby – who is a lifelong Buckeyes fan – said he felt like he was "in a dream."

Now, he'll be looking elsewhere to make a mark in college football.

Karon Prunty transferred from Kansas to SCar a few weeks ago -- and is back in the portal. This despite working with the 1s at CB?!?

Karon Prunty, one of the newest South Carolina Gamecocks football players, returned to the NCAA Transfer Portal on Thursday.

Prunty, who transferred from Kansas over the summer, worked as one of South Carolina’s first-team cornerbacks when preseason camp opened last week. He also appeared at the team’s media day, the day before practice began.

“Just trying to adapt, fit in, learn the system and everything like that,” Prunty said, when asked about his first few weeks in Columbia.

In 2020, Prunty’s only season at Kansas, he was named honorable mention All-Big 12. He had 26 total tackles, including 22 solo stops, to go along with 10 pass break ups, which tied for the most in the country among true freshmen. According to 247Sports, Prunty was named True Freshman All-American.

At the media day event, Prunty said it’s “been a smooth transition” in Columbia. He committed to South Carolina over Tennessee in June.

Wonder how many P5 portals don't find a new scholarship in P5, and how many portals don't find another scholarship 🤔

and the 20-21 cycle was before NIL. should be a shitshow this year.

Interesting pickup...transferred from ASU because the university wasn't letting unvaccinated players travel to away games

OU's obviously displeased with the punting. They took another transfer punter this cycle, coincidentally (?) from ASU Josh Plaster.

OU starts the season AT Tulane, which has just instituted a requirement for proof of vaccine or negative Covid test to attend the game. Fifty percent of Oklahomans are vaccinated (only 54% of Texans are), and OU message boards are fired up about this.

It would be so ironic for OU's season to be derailed by trying to gain a marginal advantage from better punting. It is so hard to root for college sports teams.

Just last week I asked if Arik Gilbert would surpass 1,000 yards receiving as a wide receiver at Georgia (my answer was no) and just a few days later I’m wondering if he’s even going to play. Gilbert, who has had a slew of off-field issues since leaving LSU at the end of last season, was booted from practice this weekend by Kirby Smart.

According to sources Gilbert had words with Smart about a lack of promised reps at wide receiver and was working out as a tight end more than anything. He’ll be gone for a week it seems but he will play this year in my opinion and hopefully learn from the minor suspension. Smart is in charge, bottom line. But Gilbert is too talented to sit.

Tate martell is like 33 years old now. That’s the most impressive list of transferring I’ve ever seen. His Netflix show back in 2010 was awesome

Most people buy a boat or convertible.

Tate approaches his midlife crisis like everything else: he enters the portal.
