Is that 'Wolverine' behind the horned guy?

It would be nice to see somebody take a leadership role today and wind this thing down.  Is anybody available?  I could get Scott Baio, best I can do.

Do we have people in America that usually shut shit like this down?  Anybody?  Any leaders?  I fear the leaders are watching this and enjoying it as a quiet little tribute to their brilliance.  It's like that service "my friend" told me about where you pay extra and some pornstar will pleasure herself while using your real name.

Of course we do...

I really don’t know what you mean. I am appalled by this. And what is a happening today. Same as with destructive riots and burning down businesses. Appalled and disgusted. I don’t think you truly know me as a poster or what I stand for. I’m just not a socialist. Not ever gonna be ok with 2/3 of a paycheck going to any government. But what we have seen today and all year is wrong. Very wrong and very sad. I have no other words. Just really depressed by what I am seeing and have seen all year. As you know I am an escapee from the football board. I will go back to my regularly scheduled programming. As it appears that if you are appalled by today and appalled by the destruction and riots this summer this must mean I am an idiot and an asshole that should never post in the DT. Good Lord fuckhead.

Yeah the causes of protesting police brutality and unaccountability is exactly the same as rioting to overthrow a democratic process and impede the execution of article 2 of the US constitution. Don't both sides this, you used to defend trump. Own your authoritarianism

Where were the police?  How on earth was this allowed to happen?  This should be one of the most secure locations in the country.  It normally is.

The DC mayor wanted this to happen.  She's in charge of the police.  She's had them back down before, and pulled back for previous protests.  Zero excuse for not having sufficient security in place, this protest was known long in advance.

She wanted it to happen.  Let the Trump useful idiots swarm it, get the tv pictures, media to spin it as a virtual hate thought genocide, and blame every Republican (even though all but 1 clown have strongly condemned this.)  This will be cited as the excuse to enact everything from more domestic surveillance, anti-gun laws, all the way to Medicare for all and national same day voter registration.

I'm no Wetlands Ecologist, but I guess when he said, "Drain the Swamp!"...they're literally starting at the highest point and working their way down?

If you had told me in 2007, that we'd be waiting on a "Tweet" from the guy on "The Apprentice" on my "smartphone app" called "Twitter" to convince thousands of my fellow Americans to stop storming the U.S. Capitol and starting shootouts, I might have been slightly skeptical.

False you contrarian asshole. I never voted for Trump. Never have and never will. I never defended Trump. The rioters who destroyed things this summer were wrong to do what they did no matter why  they were doing it. Period end of fucking sentence.  Both the people on the steps of the capital today and the people who burnt down buildings and police stations and businesses this summer suck balls. Police brutality is wrong. So is trying to overthrow the government and results of an election. Neither I support. There are better and more effective ways to win an argument or a political position. Violence begets more violence. It won’t win out and it will only cause more destruction. I don’t care what caused the initial riot or I risk protest. What is happening now and this summer solves nothing.

Yes, the mayor of DC has the power to stop a trump rally in the national mall, which is where this mob was formed. That's the party at fault, not the president who whipped up a riot and sent it at the capitol. He literally directed them to march on the capitol.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I was thinking of Ocean's 11 when Danny said "some people lack vision"  But I'll allow the Seinfeld mention.

Holy shit, it's on a loop but go watch CNN.  A 1-star police officer (not sure what their title is in D.C. Metro) just tossed his hat to his Lieutenant and went donnybrooks with a protestor across the gate.  Wow.  That was the most raw example of today I've seen.  When the downtown brass come down to back up their flatfoots and get into fisticuffs, now we got ourselves a season finale !

This is rebellion. Fuck all you tankies who would blame DC or anyone but the president and his supporters.

This isn't equivalent to the BLM protests and riots. The cause of overturning an election and violating the constitution is not just. Fuck you if you make that comparison seriously

Maybe think beyond the usual CR my side all good, your side all bad.  Of course this idiot mob is to blame.  Clown in Chief the most. But they aren't larger or rowdier than previous political mobs in DC this year.  There's no excuse for not having sufficient security here.  This did not have to happen.  They are still dithering about sending in enough security and taking control.  Many of these protesters are already leaving.

DC mayor doesn't want this to end just yet.  Need to maximize propaganda potential.  CaptainAnt working hard on that front.

this isn't fair game to cloak up the DT, this is for news updates. There will not be discussion just updates here please. Discussion is available in the CR thread.

My bad, I forgot violent insurrection to disrupt our democracy is non political.

Back on topic: multiple officers injured, one hospitalized so far. Too bad hospitals are full of COVID-19 patients due to a failed federal response.

National guard just activated, my brother in law is a National Guard officer in DC and a congressperson lives on their street. Hope the trump riots don't endanger my family

Fair enough.  Here's a news update.  The report is that they plan to occupy the Capitol for 14 days so as to avoid the Certification Process by Congress.

Also, if you think we're well respected around the world again...look at the websites of BBC or DW-the German News Service (like our AP)...top 5 headlines on each are about what a clown show we are.  That's news updates.  Seriously, when a news outlet started by Joseph Goebbels says your cause is acting questionably---that may be gutcheck time.

it's mainly that this thread is for updates - there's a discussion thread elsewhere. The no politics rule is clearly out on this one, name all the names that are in the news. The additional speculation and commentary should go to cloak though

CNN just showed a manila folder on Speaker Pelosi's desk that has in red letters "We Will Not Back Down"  That's the first bit of disinformation, they said it was from rioters.  It was actually left there by a staffer of hers indicating that they will be intimidated into not helping her finish this certification.  I bring it up because it's a small thing, but it's indicative of all the disinformation that's about to start pouring out over the next several days.

This is not news but something I think about when I see people pin horrific events on others in hindsight, Robin Williams in "Good Morning Vietnam"..."News outlets report the Berlin Wall was actually a fraternity prank."  The spin that's going to have to take place on this event by FoxNews and OANN and Newsmax is going to be some of the most insane news reporting since...well, I don't know.  Who in the world do you blame this all on, fraternities, video games, Boogalo Boys, Gavin McGinnes, Devin Nunes, who?

I'd encourage some of y'all to go read what the BBC and other allies are saying about this.  It's a bunch of people scratching their heads like, 'I thought we were gonna be the ones to this to your Capitol.'?

Reports from FoxNews is that Trump will be unable to publicly comment on this event as he is busy with many calls and many meetings.

After the calls and meetings are completed, he will address the nation this evening.

Watch this space for news updates because the only other time the U.S. Capitol was stormed in large force (albeit a long time ago), the event was addressed by the then sitting President...James Madison.  Then again Madison did not have the delicious distraction of McRibs and many phone calls or a really hot daughter always coming around the office throwing around her business sass.

Could you take your bullcrap fan fiction elsewhere?  I'm actually watching, a few minutes ago they played the audio of the president's address calling for the protesting idiots to leave and be peaceful (and a bunch of blather about stolen landslide potato), and now they've loaded the video and are about to play it.
