Isn't this the guy that claimed he found those plastic cuffs on the ground and was responsibly looking for a policeman so he could turn them in?

Yes. Yes it is.

Also: SIAP. I saw a photo earlier that the My Pillow guy was there at the WH today; so  Stephen Miller,  Steve Bannon, and pillow talk with the President. Must be springtime in Germany.

Well, there's nothing criminal about walking around with flex cuffs.  He could have just been trying to be tacticool.

Leave it to a prosecutor to outright state that he planned to hogtie someone, though.

N.B. I'm not trying to defend Larry.  I'm just calling out a prosecutor for kind of a cheap stunt.

Picking them up in the midst of a violent incursion into the halls of Congress isn't just walking around with them.  I mean, I guess if one of the Capitol or Metro DC police had "dropped" their weapon, and someone happened to pick it up and walk around with it inside the Capitol while the mob shouted to hang Pence and find Pelosi that would be okay too, right?

I’m interested in the follow up to this as well as the office panic button claims.  Either or both being true should go a long way towards proving a planned attack, a conspiracy, of which the majority of the crowd was unaware and were being manipulated into being cover.

So were the panic buttons removed or is it a conspiracy theory at this point? That seems pretty cut and dry, either they were removed or they weren't. If they were holy fuking shit.

Don’t know, only heard it from a couple of congressional tweets. Like I said, waiting on the follow up/investigation as to if, when, and whose.

Now, add the following wrinkles: imagine I have a long history of how I am going to make Sela Ward mine, whether she wants it or not.  My posts get more frenetic every day.  And today, I post several times about "today is the day, Sela will be mine, she can't stop me."  And the cops arrest me as I'm sneaking in her back yard, heading for a door or window.....carrying blades, small screwdrivers, rope, and duct tape.

They should probably not check your posting history here

Yeah....no.

While there CAN be an innocent explanation for certain things, context can damned well make it an element of a criminal conspiracy.

In my garage, I have multiple bladed tools (knives, axes), multiple tools that could be used to break into a home (small screwdrivers and such), rope, and duct tape.  That just means I have a decent toolkit.

Dude....I'm going to prison.  Not even a trial - that's a plea deal case.

The exact same "innocent explanation" tools, given context, are absolutely evidence that makes a violent criminal conspiracy charge stick.

Fucker SAID he was gonna do bad shit to elected officials.  Then he illegally entered the building where they were doing their job, carrying a tool designed for one thing -- to restrain people that you have in your custody.  Fuck that dude to hell.

Most of these people are only going down with misdemeanors.  A few, with weapons and that took shit, are probably going to keep their felonies.  Some, that can be proven to be seditious conspirators or insurrectionists (haven't seen either charge yet, but the conspiracy may be coming for some), will catch felonies also, probably with some pretty serious prison time.

Misdemeanors, even federal ones, don't come with the collateral consequences that are so ruinous to people's lives.

But, the association itself could be its own collateral consequence.

I find myself conflicted, as I often do, because I hate what our criminal justice system does to people.  Yet, I find it dissatisfying that a misdemeanor trespass offense is all most of these people are going to get.

Maybe. Similar analogue is the J20 trials. They went after those folks HARD.

Quote

As people rushed out of other buildings on the Capitol grounds, staffers in Pressley’s office barricaded the entrance with furniture and water jugs that had piled up during the pandemic. Groh pulled out gas masks and looked for the special panic buttons in the office.

“Every panic button in my office had been torn out — the whole unit,” she said, though they could come up with no rationale as to why. She had used them before and hadn’t switched offices since then. As they were escorted to several different secure locations, Groh and Pressley and her husband tried to remain calm and vigilant — not only of rioters but of officers they did not know or trust, she said.

Holy shit this is hilarious and ironic and....well, just follow the thread.  I assume it's already on the Dan Crenshaw thread here.

ETA: Props to @Jive Turkey for posting this back when it happened.

Credit to @TheStoicPaisano I just saw he posted this in the Donald Trump thread, which is more appropriate.

Imagine being so hard up that you'd look to the opinion of a drug addict pillow salesman shuckster for your advice on your best next step to overthrow the government.

Dude did you see his social media posts in that thread?  "Patriots need to shoot their way in," Talking about that woman that FAAFO with a bullet in her neck, "She's the first martyr of the second revolution."

And you think it is hyperbole that he might have tried to use those cuffs to take a hostage if he'd found a hostage to take?  Ok then.

The context being a detention hearing on a pair of misdemeanors, where there's about zero chance that he would be detained.

If he had been charged with attempted kidnapping, that might have been more appropriate.

Also, he didn't say "he had flex cuffs as if he was planning to take hostages."  He said he intended to take hostages, at least according to that post.

So yeah it was a cheap stunt.

Not really sure what to say if you don't see his comments, see those cuffs on him, and you hear his obvious lie and decide that yeah, maybe he did just forget he had them.  But maybe we're not arguing about the same thing.

I'm arguing that I don't think it was hyperbole to state that the guy was wearing those cuffs in case he could take some hostages in support of the second revolution.  You may be arguing that whether that's hyperbole or not, based on what he's been charged with so far, bail is a 99% certainty, so there's no point in bringing that into the discussion.  If you are arguing the former, I don't even know how to have a discussion with you about this.  If you are arguing the latter, IANAL so I'd defer to your knowledge in that area.

The latter.  It was a rather pointless exaggeration.  It may not even prove to be an exaggeration, but unless he's charged with something more serious that involves an intention to take hostages or do violence, we'll probably never see any proof on the matter.

I'm not a big fan of prosecutors.  They're the number one problem with the criminal justice system.  That doesn't change when the defendant is a shitheel.

I haven't seen anything showing this Highland Park woman inside the Capitol, but her social media is blowing up after she posted a bunch of stuff on her Instagram, facebook (1 mutual), and on YouTube.

Is she the one in the cap?  I saw that hat on a blonde in one of the videos of the capitol interior.  So one might think she's gonna have an appointment down at Earle Cabell in the not too distant future.

Never heard of her, but she shares a name with an alleged Danish witch that was executed in the 17th century.

Reminds me of an old Pryor bit where he discusses the difference between men and women pissing outside, how women can cut it off without another drop but men cramp up something fierce.  It's quite hilarious.

Men, you ever try to cut your piss off?  You damn near get a hernia!

On one of her posts she is whining in a "both sides" vein and says "the rules don't apply to them, just us peasants."

Yes, a Highland Park socialite (and Pi Phi alum though I think only from blowU) thinks she is a disadvantaged peasant with the deck stacked against her.

Been fascinated over the past couple of days watching the search for this lady, called "bullhornlady".  She obviously did some intel ahead of time.  People are saying it's Boebert's mom, but her mom is too fat and old to be this woman.  She's definitely a ringleader though, just search #bullhornlady and read away...

I didn't even remember that.  Had to look it up.

That was significantly harder that this (DC Code incitement to riot with 10 year max), but also on cooked up legal theories.

Pretty sure these misdemeanors are mostly going to stick.  We'll see about what else they charge.

Fact-Check

While the photo of Graham and Biggs is, in fact, authentic and was taken at a Trump hotel, the description of the photo as being taken "before Biggs helped organize an assault on the U.S. Capitol" is misleading as it gave the wrong impression that the two events happened close to each other.

In reality, the picture was taken more than a year before the Capitol insurrection. Based on the Twitter post below, it appears Biggs originally posted the photos on his since-deleted Instagram account, @anticom3, during a visit to Trump's Washington, D.C. hotel on Nov. 7, 2019.
