Identifying Trump rioters

A Florida man and member of the “Oath Keeper” militia organization who was charged with coordinating a military-style attack on the U.S. Capitol aimed at overthrowing the federal government is asking a federal judge to reconsider a ruling that will keep him in jail until the start of his criminal trial.

Graydon Young, 54, was denied bond last month by U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Wilson after claiming that he was “duped” into participating in an insurrection with the extremist para-military group. He insisted that he was “unaware of the organization’s nefarious purpose when he joined” and claiming his role in Jan. 6 was “limited.”

In the Second Superseding Indictment filed earlier this month in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the government alleged that on Jan. 6, Young and nine other members of the Oath Keepers “planned with each other, and with others known and unknown, to forcibly enter the Capitol” in order to “stop, delay, and hinder the Congressional proceedings occurring that day.”

The group, which includes Kelly Meggs, Connie Meggs, Kenneth Harrelson, Thomas Caldwell, Donovan Crowl, Jessica Watkins, Sandra Parker, Bennie Parker, and Laura Steele, are alleged to have “prepared themselves for battle before heading to the Capitol by equipping themselves with communication devices and donning reinforced vests, helmets, and goggles.” They were charged with conspiracy, obstructing official government proceedings, destruction of government property, and trespassing.

Young, who served in the U.S. Navy Reserve for seven years, was also charged with the corrupt destruction of evidence for deleting his Facebook account in the days following the attempted insurrection.

Attorneys for Young on Monday filed a motion seeking to have the initial bond ruling vacated, arguing that the Government lacked sufficient evidence to hold Young on the charges, and cited to his “strong character” and the “psychological burdens” Young had endured during his first ever prison stint as reasons why he should be released.

“The psychological burdens of being detained pending trial are very real for Mr. Young. Since he has no previous experience with the criminal justice system, being detained is taking an extremely high toll on his mental well-being,” the motion stated. “Prior to being detained, Mr. Young was a mentally strong and stable person with no history of mental disorders. His current emotional and psychological state is owing entirely to the fact that he has been detained and is unable to rely upon his normal social support systems. Because he is such a strong family man, locking him up away from his wife and children with the prospect of an extremely long period of time before trial is even scheduled is causing potentially irreparable psychological and emotional damage to Mr. Young.”

Young’s attorneys also claimed that deleting his Facebook page—where he posted photos and videos of the insurrection—did not amount to obstruction of justice because he was unaware that the FBI had opened an active investigation into him personally.

“The Government alleged in the Complaint Mr. Young removed his Facebook account January 7, 2021 – well before Mr. Young was aware of any investigation centered on him, and well before he received notice that a warrant for his arrest had issued on February 15, 2021,” read the motion. “He is a person who protects and helps vulnerable people; not a person who attacks, destroys, and injures, as the United States would have the Court believe. Because the United States cannot point to any concrete evidence indicating Mr. Young poses a danger to any person or the community, there are conditions that can be fashioned, if the Court finds them necessary, to assure the safety of any other person and the community.”

Yep. If I were given three guesses to get as many of the rioters as possible by geography Family Feud style, I'd have guessed DFW, Suburban/Exurban Georgia, and not even bothered with a third guess.

Feels like now would be a good time to say Florida is worthy of that third guess.

"Show me...the Sunshine State!"  DING, DING, DING!

To Mrs. Whiggins point, you'd think during all their team-building exercises, training camps, gun shows, and paintball excursions---the idea of being held captive would have come up.  I could easily see them doing some kinda "interrogation" exercises to toughen them up for when the Socialists came for them.  Heck, we used to do paintball all the time and there was a "prison" for both teams that you'd have to rescue your teammates from.

So you see Mr. Young, real prison is a lot like fake paintball prison, just with more violent sexual assault.  Then again, knowing MAGA/Q nation, maybe less sexual assault.  Your results may vary.

What is that crazy dame Jenna Ryan up to these days?  I'll bet a full Franklin brisket that she takes a portion of the money she "raised for her legal battles against the Socialist Takeover" and uses it buy her way into the "D Magazine's Top Metroplex Realtors in 2021" issue later this year.  "Defending my client's rights to be free and find their dream home, call or email me today!"  And the dipshit MAQA crowd will beat a path to her door.

https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2021/03/22/video-shows-texas-lawmaker-near-steps-of-us-capitol-as-rioters-clashed-with-officers/

Quote

A video uploaded to the social networking site Parler appears to show Texas state Rep. Kyle Biedermann standing near the steps of the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6, as a mob clashed with Capitol Police Officers.

Members of that mob later invaded the Capitol building, forcing members of the United States Congress to evacuate or shelter in place. Five people were killed, more than 140 were injured and well over 315 people have been criminally charged in connection to the insurrection so far.

Biedermann, a Trump-aligned Republican in the Texas House representing Kendall, Comal and Gillespie counties, previously confirmed that he was in D.C. on Jan. 6 for the ‘Save America Rally.’

Quote

But his whereabouts as rioters broke through police barriers — and proximity to the deadly siege — was unknown until now. Biedermann has maintained that he only attended Trump’s nearby rally that preceded the siege and has refused to comment or provide records about the incident.

KSAT is not aware of any evidence tying Rep. Biederman to the clash with law enforcement, Capitol building invasion or any other criminal conduct on Jan. 6.

The footage, which shows Biedermann standing on a concrete wall as other members of the crowd chant “traitors” and then “U-S-A,” is included in a ProPublica project that compiled hundreds of videos posted to Parler during the lead up to the riot and the riot itself.

Quote

Biedermann, who has for months refused multiple requests for comment from KSAT about Jan. 6, previously told a conservative Dallas-area talk radio host that he attended the rally at The Ellipse, a park south of the White House, about two miles away from the Capitol.

Biedermann during that Jan. 7 radio appearance claimed “a few radicals...caused the trouble” at the Capitol.

The footage, however, shows a mask-less Biedermann standing and watching with other Trump supporters as hundreds of people, many of them waving Trump flags, converge on the steps of the Capitol.

Quote

Bidermann appears to be wearing the same outfit in the video that he was wearing in a Facebook photo posted by a woman who claimed to be present at the D.C. rally, where the photograph was taken.

The timestamp of the video, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, is several minutes after would-be rioters had already pushed through an outer security fence barrier on the Capitol grounds manned by police.

Parler, a far-right social media platform that surged in popularity after other sites like Facebook and Twitter began suppressing posts that contain misinformation, was temporarily forced offline after being cut off by digital service providers earlier this year, before returning last month.

A spokesperson for the regional FBI office declined to comment, citing agency policy to not confirm or deny investigations.

Spoiler

Biedermann refused to hand over public information

A Defenders investigation earlier this month revealed that Biedermann refuses to release public emails from his official government account from the dates surrounding his trip to Washington, D.C.

KSAT sent a public records request for a copy of all emails sent to and from his Texas House of Representatives email address between Dec. 10, 2020, and Jan. 11, 2021.

Under the Texas Public Information Act, email accounts maintained by taxpayer-funded government agencies, including the Texas Legislature, are considered public information.

Biedermann’s chief of staff, Karin Dyer, responded to the request in late January claiming the office had nothing responsive to release.

After the Defenders challenged the claim that Biedermann had not received or sent any emails during those 30-plus days — a time period that included the start of the Texas Legislature — Dyer responded that it is not the office’s policy to disclose information that is confidential by law. Dyer then cited two sections from the Texas Government Code regarding certain exceptions.

However, email records for the inbox of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, obtained by the Defenders through another open records request, show that Biederman did indeed receive an email during that time period. Coincidentally, on Jan. 6, Biedermann received an email from Abbott naming a person from his district to the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists.

Biedermann’s office, to date, has not requested a ruling from the Texas Attorney General’s Office about whether the requested emails would be considered confidential under the public information act and could be withheld. The AG’s office is the agency that issues rulings and opinions on whether certain information is excepted from public information law.

The Defenders have filed a complaint against Biedermann’s office with the attorney general’s office over the refusal to release the emails.

Biedermann is the third known Texas elected official to have been in DC during the deadly attack, but he is the only one who has been identified in images taken in close proximity to the Capitol.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also attended the rally, delivering a speech urging supporters to keep “fighting.” His wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, R-Dallas, appeared with him on stage.

“We came because we wanted to be heard and we’re sick and tired of what’s been going on by the elite media and the elite politicians who continue to ignore us,” Biedermann told the Dallas-area talk radio host Jan. 7.

A bill filed in the Texas House by Biedermann Jan. 26 would potentially give voters a chance to decide in November whether the state legislature should develop a plan to secede from the rest of the United States.

The bill was referred to the House State Affairs Committee earlier this month but has not yet been assigned a hearing.

What a piece of shit.  Everybody's getting found out dumbass, especially the elected officials there.  Was he hoping for a "No Way Out" movie situation where by the time they unscrambled his facial image from the pictures, that he'd be back in Russia?  His Central Texas district went so strongly 'R' in 2020 and 2018, that he'll likely be drawn into a more competitive district for 2022 as the dilution of San Antonio and Austin blue strongholds is more robust this time around.  A decent Republican primary challenger could overtake him (he was in a relatively close primary back in 2016).  I forget how the rest of my analysis goes, but he has 7 daughters and they're all whores.

As a reminder:

Quote

In Austin, Republican Kyle Biedermann of the Texas House of Representatives, previously best known for dressing up as “gay Hitler,” became the first American legislator in nearly a century and only the second since the Civil War to file a formal bill calling for state-level secession from the United States.

Dubbed the “Texas Independence Referendum Act,” his bill would allow Texans to vote this November on a referendum “on the question of whether this state should leave the United States of America and establish an independent republic.” The bill, introduced just after the siege of the Capitol and the beginning of the Biden presidency, would also create a Texas Independence Committee comprised of the lieutenant governor, speaker of the state House and various state lawmakers and tasked with crafting a formal strategy for independence by 2026.

That's awesome.  One of most criminally underrated comedies of all time.

No shortage of idiotic MAQA insurrectionists walking into prison, "We don't take no shit man, no shit.  No sir, we don't no shit off nobody!" turns to "Okay, we take a little bit of shit.  Maybe some shit."  What was it that guard said to you when we first came in here?

So far the head to head is....

Entire state of Florida 27, DFW area 19.

According to these numbers, Texas has only 24 but that's almost certainly a little low. Houston has 4 and I can think of several more from Austin, San Antonio, Midland and El Paso. The DFW tally of 19 comes from the WaPo article linked upthread.

Other scores of note

(Bear in mind, some of this is skewed by a proximity bias, and there were a 20-30 arrestees whose home state is not given in the database I drew from )

Pennsylvania wins with 39. Carville was right about the shit sandwich. It's consistently underrated in rankings of very terrible places full of racists and other assorted morons.

That said it's an easy drive to DC, buuuttt, not as easy as parts of Virginia and all of Maryland, which only had 17 and 14, respectively.

NY ties with Texas with 24. Prob would approach PA's total if NY were as close.

California has 14. About where you'd figure them. Huge population but relatively few Trumpsters and all the way across the country.

Ohio 12. Surprisingly low score. I would have pegged them for top 5, maybe top 3.

Kentucky punched above its weight class with ten.

Georgia only has seven.

Arizona's six is a solid number given distance, but Montana has to be the pound for pound champ with 5; very impressive number esp. given distance from DC.

West Virginia produced four but that's nowhere near as strong a showing as Montana because there are more West Virginians (1.7m to Montana's 1M) and it's very close to DC.

All of DFW needs to be walled off, 50 ft high at least. Just to be sure and to save this nation.

the Cowboys can move to SA, Rangers to OKC, Mavs to Seattle and stars to Albacracky

Eh, even as a Houstonian I am alright with keeping Dallas and Tarrant counties, and the city of Denton. Build the wall at the Collin County line and cede it and the tier of counties to the north to Oklahoma. At the extreme east of this parcel of land, we will dogleg up to hold on to Caddo and Jefferson, but Oklahoma can have the rest of that mess.

On second thought I like having a moat, too, so we need to re-channel the Red River to the south so we can keep that historic barrier to entry.

Barrier? The Maginot Line did a better job than the Red River.

Well, now it would be fortified, preferably with a system of crenellated walls and towers manned by archers spaced 30 yards apart. Boiling oil cauldrons to be wheeled along the battlements as dictated by battlefield conditions.

The court ruled that Secor will be subject to GPS monitoring and must surrender access to firearms and his passport, among other conditions. Secor has pleaded not guilty to the charges."
