Texas came into today with 8 HR.  That would now be 12 HR in 7 games (so far).

We finished the shortened 2020 season with 24 in 27 games.  We finished 2019 with 41 in 63 games.  We seem on pace to shatter that.

Steve Singleton was a great hire.

Maybe he could go across the street a give a few pointers.

Texas remains #7 in the Coaches Poll.

#1 OU
#9 Ok State
#12 ULL
#13 LSU
#23 Iowa State

RV:

#27 Baylor
T-#31 Ole Miss
T-#31 Miss State

Big 12 looks strong - 3 top 10 teams, another in the top 25 and one just outside the top 25.

Probably the best conference we've had in a decade - in 2011, 4 teams went to OKC (Baylor, Missouri, OU, Ok State).  3 teams could be in OKC at the end of the year.

Strong scheduling by the athletic department today. Baseball & softball at 6 (both ESPN+), volleyball at 7 (LHN), all at home. We couldn’t play softball mid-afternoon to spread them out & get two on LHN?

No because we are playing at Houston.  Pit stop on the way to Baton Rouge.

Its tough to get a hit in center field against LSU. Their center fielder has already made Sportscenter top 10 multiple times this season for her diving catches.

What if we just hit it over the fence?

Great idea!  Let's do that!

We are good at that!

Texas has now hit 17 HR's through its first nine games of 2021. The Longhorns bashed just 24 total HR's over 27 games during their shortened 2020 campaign

My initial post was even though LSU is 200 down the line and 220 to CF (same as us) they have short ass fences all the way around.  We have 10 foot fences.

Mike White called McCombs a pitcher’s park because of those fences. A lot of our doubles would be HR everywhere else

Just looking at LSU's stats:

  • 11-5 - lost to #25 Duke, #2 Alabama twice, and #10 Ok State twice.  They have two wins over #9 ULL.
  • Hitting .284 with only 22 HR in 16 games.  Have walked 59 times and struck out 63.  25-26 on stolen bases.  .955 fielding %
  • ERA is 2.21 - 33/50 runs earned, 87 K to 32 walks, 7 HR given up.

They've played better competition I'd say, considering they've played 7 games against ranked teams.

  • Texas hitting - .384 average, 17 HR, Walked 32 times, struck out 26 times. 16-19 SB.  .943 fielding %
  • Texas pitching - 1.25 ERA, 10/15 runs earned, 50 K to 18 walks, 2 HR given up.

I think we are one of the best offenses LSU will have faced, besides maybe Alabama (oh how I wish we could have gotten those games in) - they lost to Bama 2-5 and 5-13 (5).  But they held a good (not elite) OSU team to 4 runs in 2 games (0-1 and 1-3).
