Hey, I said arguably. It's how I grew up learning about FDR, but I also didn't go to public school where nanny/welfare state was celebrated. It wasn't until college that I realized people actually liked JFK and FDR and didn't think they were clowns.

Sounds like you ought to start a thread on welfare and share your opinions. Back to the filibuster:

Here are a few recent airings, the last one is my fave:

About the assertion regarding whether the filibuster began in response to events in history:

An illustration of the more recent past:

And finally:

Sorry if any of these were already posted....

That's interesting context I've never heard. I'll do some googling, but if you have a bookmarked source you got this from, that would be great.

And to JS1's teary, mascara-stained troll accusation (every accusation is a confession, my bad on taking the bait), it's pretty widely known and held that FDR arguably prolonged a recession and absolutely created a welfare state.

I don't have a single source.  That's me synthesizing a whole bunch of reading on the Depression and the geo-ideological environment of the 1930's.

You really are gunning for biggest shitstain on this website of degenerates, aren't you?

And you are and have been a troll.  Or you're 14 and think you know everything about everything.

Also nice homophobia there.

Hmmmm.... Interesting spike right about the time that the secret Kenyan Muslim started stretching out his tan trousers and putting his shoes up on the Resolute Desk.

Good thing ol' Fill and Buster were there to thwart his evil machinations.

are you insane? what homophobia? I'm calling you a hysterical woman. Maybe I'm guilty of misogyny. And if you are gay, I'm sorry you took it that way, I can't keep up with everyone's status around here. I just know you as a pathetic, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, whether you are straight, gay, black, white, woman or man.

Yeah, it's hilarious watching the Troll at work. But I mean, he's absolutely an Aggie, so you have to understand that saying shit like "It's widely known that Texas aTm won the Big 12 Championship in 2010 and are three time national champions" is literally part of their indoctrination as adults.

It's amazing that so many knuckleheads simultaneously want to take America back to the 1950s but without any of the things actually in place in the 1950s (tax rates, social programs, etc.).

Basically without anything except the, you know, government-sanctioned racism.

This is revealing.

I went to a public high school, but in a very conservative district.  Judgment was not passed on FDR, or JFK for that matter, but the controversial aspects of their administrations or philosophies were discussed, as one might expect in an institution of education.

Good catch. I missed it the first time. Of course he's some rich, casually misogynistic dipshit named Davis who grew up in private schools and probably had a black nanny and wants to whine and moan about the lack of person responsibility those colored folks have and why their real problem is they don't have a good family structure or fathers that stick around, as he saw his parents once or twice a year from boarding school where they shipped him off to because they couldn't stand to see the mirror reflection of themselves in the arrogant little prick they spawned. Suddenly this makes a lot more sense.

Oh and also, if you don't agree with him or try to challenge him, you're a pathetic person.

There's no question that communism and fascism were gaining traction worldwide, and in the US, too.  That's historical fact.

Now, continental Europe may have been more susceptible due to the devastation of WWI, but the fact of the matter is that it was close everywhere.

FDR did socialism lite, by central planning aspects of the economy without taking control of the means of production. Capitalism rose to the occasion.

They couldn’t work that in at Donkey’s honkey madrasa due to all the time required teaching creationism and how white Jesus rode dinosaurs.

Yea it is. I was going to say “wait, you don’t believe in creationism?” As a joke but then sensitive people won’t let me have a sense of humor and I have to be 100% earnest all the time because otherwise I’m a troll.

Oh my goodness; please don’t take that as a lament. It was why I originally deleted it but ole BT is too fast on the draw and quoted me. I 100% could not care any less what you or anyone else’s treatment or opinion of me is. I just enjoy the discussions and sharing of point of views, and I enjoy learning something new from time to time. But hey, if it makes you feel good to imagine me as someone who is upset and bothered, by all means. I consider us friends and what else are friends for?

FDR did prolong the Great Depression . . . when he insisted on a balanced budget in 1937 and a mini-recession within the GD ensued.

I  can’t really speak to this part but the great depression was caused by the fed in the early 30s raising interest rates substantially during a severe economic retraction on behalf of the interests of the New York banks. Caused a severe recession to become the great depression.

Somewhat ironically I guess the fed did the complete opposite in 2008-2009 and prevented the Great Recession from become the second Great Depression.

So all hail the fed?
