This is what I think.  The press secretary has a massive megaphone.  Call her out for being an insane conspiracy theorist.  What's wrong with that?

Joe Biden and the White House need to run the country, and getting sucked into a running debate with MTG distracts from that. Honestly, she becomes more of a martyr and hero that way to the crazy base.

There’s no shortage of attack dogs to go after her. But even that may be a mistake.  Deplatforminf and ignoring might be the better tack.

I'm not saying they need to get sucked into a running debate, but they need to call out crazy when it's there.  It's about making voters understand that these are not sane people.

Nothing good comes of giving this woman one iota of attention from the president or his administration. We just spent four years witnessing the White House air grievances on an hourly basis. I do not want to see the office used to give attention right now to anything outside of the business of helping our country regain some sense of normalcy and that means a focus on COVID at the moment.

It isn't about shaming her, it is about shaming voters. Rs run against Pelosi and AOC more than the actual candidates in their races. Democrats don't shame voters enough. But Rs do a great job of shaming Dems if they even try, so Dems stop.

Hilary's deplorable comments shouldn't have been good for Rs but it was because they pounced on it. But they are deplorable and voters who side with them should know it. They didn't call out Trump's racism enough. They haven't called out Q enough. They think the voters are smart enough to figure it out. But THEY AREN'T!!! They are fucking morons.

Fucking this. They get far too caught up in this rhetoric about "reconciliation" whenever they take power. They're the party that in certain election cycles both wins the war AND sues for peace. It's fucking ridiculous. And for those who don't agree:

Where was this rhetoric about unity and reconciliation when Trump was inaugurated?
Where was this rhetoric about unity and reconciliation when the D's took back the House in 2018?
Hell, where was this rhetoric about unity and reconciliation when the R's took the Senate in 2014?

Well to the very last question, the answer's very interesting. The answer is that not only was that rhetoric absolutely absent from any mainstream discussion, what we did have was Mitch McConnell telling the whole world "make no mistake: Tonight is a repudiation of President Obama's policies" shortly after the election returns. And that was coming off 4 years of uninterrupted promises to "make Obama a one-term president." Now, republicans might say "oh but he was talking about policies!" Yeah, he certainly was. What he meant was "If President Obama does a Clintonian backflip, if he’s willing to meet us halfway on some of the biggest issues, it’s not inappropriate for us to do business with him...I don’t want the president to fail; I want him to change. So, we’ll see. The next move is going to be up to him."

Translation, be like 2nd term Clinton, which was virtually indistinguishable from Reagan/Bush, or else. Be almost literally exactly like us, or else.

That's not the rhetoric of a party that's even nominally in favor of "unity and reconciliation." That's an ultimatum, which is the exact antithesis of unity and reconciliation.

The Democrats shouldn't be interested in reaching out to Republicans. They should be interested in destroying them. There are factions of the Democratic Party that are interested in that, but that coalition is very small. The establishment wing of the Democratic Party is a roster of filthy compromisers. I've said this before, but they are a party that would rather have one of their own lose a general election to a Republican (even a Trump) than have them primaried by a Bernie or an AOC. That's a problem. As long as their biggest donors are putting their money behind that preference rather than the latter, this vicious cycle will continue, and we all will continue to suffer for it.

One lesson we as voters should learn is this: unity and bipartisanship are not the same thing. Unity means that we are striving as a whole to achieve a common purpose regardless of political affiliation. Bipartisanship means two very similar factions of essentially the same party want to meet in the middle on some wedge issues that are usually used to create artificial divisions.

Pre-House Hugh Laurie with Stephen Fry...There are about five of these "Dramatic Businessmen" skits. They are always scheming to stop this Marjorie from seizing control of their health club in the middle of Bumfuck, England, while slamming whiskey by the half-pint.

I can't hear the name Marjorie without thinking of these.

What a heartbreaking display of zero humanity or connection to reality all wrapped up in a stew of unwarranted privilege and false persecution. Such a terribly accurate representation of both political conservatives and evangelical Christians.

Even if you agree with her position on gun control, a member of congress harassing school shooting victims on the street while complaining about their access to power is beyond comprehension.

They can't be.  THEY LIKE THIS SHIT.  When are you going to realize this?  This batshittery, this alternate reality, fed by an engine of hate of "the other," IS A FEATURE, not a bug.   It is the essence of the GOP now.  Remember, they don't have a platform -- they literally said "we stand for whatever a hateful narcissist who lies more frequently than any human in history says."

Shaming won't work.  Rational discourse won't work.  We are up against an army of hateful people who live in an alternate reality.  Talking nicely with them won't do shit.  "Shaming" them for the thing that they are actually most proud of won't do shit.  Trying to shame a GOPer with MTG's idiocy is like trying to shame a Kardashian for showing off her tits and ass -- ashamed?  Dude, THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE, and they're proud of it.

Here, lemme help you.  I still follow Jerry Patterson on FB.  Jerry Patterson, longtime GOP politician in Texas, no pantywaist to be sure.  He actually posted about MTGs insanity, and calling for dems to be executed.  Here are some of the responses:

teeth's point is that it isn't her constituents that need to be shamed.  it's the people who vote republican in kingwood and the woodlands and collin county who need to be shamed.  the democrats need to tar local republicans with the ill-deeds and opinions of republicans in far flung places like marjorie, just as the republicans have been tarring local democrats with AOC or nancy pelosi.  they don't even need to be all that true - nancy pelosi held a vote against the green new deal and i still got mailers about how nancy pelosi's green new deal was going to end energy [read: dino juice] jobs if i didn't vote for republicans for probate court.

I'm not sure those folks can be shamed either really--pretty much @Brisketexan's point. The backlash is real. Look to the times leading up to events such as the Civil Rights Act or school busing/integration and the anti-crime/tough on drugs wave, it's probably not something they could put into words that were true--it's all feelings. The ones they want to embrace but have to couch in pretty words so they can feel good about themselves.

That's only a part of it, though. What Marjorie thinks she is promoting is one thing, but what the tippy top Mafia is trying to accomplish is another. The coup she thinks she wants is not the coup she would have had. She is just as much a pawn as dotJenny of the insurrection Texans.

Dems need to target the people that can be shamed. We are essentially at war for about 15% of the country. If a mom with 3 kids watches the news once a month before the election and she sees that socialists are coming for her money, then she votes R. If she hears that a woman was shaming a kid in the streets, a kid just like hers, after a mass shooting then it resonates.

Something like 70% of Reps think the insurrection was no big deal.  The Woodlands, Collin Co. (where I live), etc. are all in, dude.  They KNOW they can't win w/out the Q/White Nationalists, so they just furrow their brow, talk about how they don't like the rhetoric and they themselves aren't racists, but maintain they absolutely cannot vote for "socialists and commies"  AKA Democrats.  And both groups get all their news from Fox, talk radio, OANN, etc.  The crazy horses are out of the barn and they're not coming back.

Not with a fig leaf olive branch for sure. The Congress people who were around prior to 2016 should never forget all the things they worked for that Mitch let sit....and sit....and sit....and sit... and then handed to Trump in amended fashion to take credit. All the things they worked for that Mitch let sit...and sit...and sit... and are still gathering dust. How the perfectly imperfect phone call and all the other things were brushed over as no big deal that led to their lives being endangered, over 400,000 Americans dead, Kurds and other allies abandoned, and how with the funeral oratory still floating on the breeze, they held a superspreader congratulatory party for the newly elected judge that they just HAD to confirm in an election year.

This is an abusive relationship and why the hell would any Democrat not tell the Republicans to pack their shit, get out of the way, and then start voting and getting things done? Are they worried the ex is going to come back violent? He already did that. So arm yourself and and defend the House (and Senate). It's yours now.

And keep taking notes from Stacey Abrams to get people out to vote.

There is a reason we joke about Gary Johnson voters. There is a reason why Pizzagate supporters changed their names and took on the Save the Children campaign. You can shame people. These people likely won't change but they have to keep changing their message. But if you keep them above ground and force them into talking about this, then others that aren't as steadfast have to deal with the craziness and explain their acceptance of it through their votes.

I admit that I mocked Qanon early on and thought that it was not something that could see widespread acceptance. But it was allowed to fester. We had news agencies looking to see why they were believers and essentially showcase their viewpoints without any mockery. No one pushed back in a big way. The media and Dems let it go and just trusted it would go away. Right now, stupid doesn't go away. It flourishes. You have to do something to push back.

I mean it's certainly not due to intellectual considerations over policy differences between Trump and Clinton/Biden. It's mere tribal loyalty, and one would be fooling themselves if they think that those in Kingwood, Woodlands, Collin County, et al have a keener political sense than those in Sherman County. That's all a giant ruse now. Regardless of what any of those 74.2 million people's reasons were, They. Voted. For. Trump. Trump and Trumpism isn't a controversial subject. It's a clear and present evil, and a vote for it is a conscious endorsement of that evil. All this other shit that's being discussed about it are colors and lights, smoke and mirrors, bells and whistles, whatever your preferred phrase to describe what essentially amounts to shiny objects. Whenever I occasionally hear someone utter the phrase "intellectual Republicans," the first phrase that bounces back at me is a phrase that this fake chef kept saying to Gordon Ramsay on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares:

The gerrymander, voter suppression, Electoral College, both siderism, and a wimpy Democratic party have made this less clear.  Around 40% of the country is on board with lunacy and cruelty.  It's on the rest of us to make sure that they find out from their fucking around.

bit of splitting hairs here, but my take is a tad different.

the average R is here on this board. you had a well known poster having a fit in the CR a few days back. Why? because the anti-trumpers weren't as equally outraged about something related to riots in Portland as they were to the Capitol Riot.

Victimhood. Not everyone cares as much as I do about this thing. There are 4 or 5 of these posters in DT that lash out like this here and there. Now they aren't anywhere near as batshit insane as this person here, which we know. However, they provide cover for the cancer to spread.

I think the tactic moving forward has to be eliminating this feeling of being the victim. Not sure how or where. But attacking the cancer on a full frontal assault doesn't seem to be working. Have to take the legs out.

Brisket is balls-on accurate.

The Woodlands does not equal Montgomery County, which also includes places like Conroe, Willis, Magnolia, Tomball, Splendora and fucking Cut and Shoot. The Woodlands appears to have gone Trump but not by much (I couldn't find great data, as their votes are tallied in several precincts. It's a rare Texas township.)...If the whole county voted like The Woodlands, it would be in play, but it won't be for decades because it's densely populated with rednecks everywhere else.

Yes there are assholes up there who voted Trump and should have known better but I don't see Montgomery County as a harbinger of anything other than just rednecks dominating red counties.

Contrast it with Fort Bend, a suburban county much more seamlessly aligned with Houston than The Woodlands/ MontCo. FB has been blue through the Trump years.
