This makes Angel Hernandez look competent by comparison:

Hernandez called the Dodger game last night and called Turner out on a 3rd strike about a foot outside.  But man, that is nutz.

Looks like the Dodgers are going to avoid a sweep to The Big Red Machine.

Quote

Foster said contact isn't needed to call obstruction, just the runner being forced to take a slightly different path to the bag.

"A player without a ball, without making a play on a ball, is standing in the basepath of the runner, impeding and hindering him," Foster told a pool reporter. "And [Diaz] actually makes a jog to the right to get out of his way, to get out of Godley's way. That's clear-cut obstruction. It doesn't have to be contact. It just has to be hinder or obstruct, and that's what happened."

This might make sense if:

1.  The runner weren't required to run in the lane in foul territory to first.

AND

2.  The pitcher had ever actually stepped off the grass in making the play.

What would you do with the winning run on 3B, 1 out, and the opponent’s leading hitter AB (a LH hitter against a RHP) with a RH hitter waiting on deck?  Would you intentionally BB to set up a possible inning ending DP?

Aaron Boone wouldn’t and Cedric Mullins had a game winning F-8 SF for a walk off Orioles win over NYY 4-3 in 10.

His decision had some odor to it, too ...

But, NYY was on defense, not hitting.  However, since you bring it up .. Boone had a hitter K via 2-strike bunt foul trying to move up the extra inning lead off runner from 2B.

Jim Palmer was basically laughing at that decision as soon as  it became clear they weren't going to walk him.

Maybe Boone is suffering from PTSD after he screwed up the replay request the other night ... just more potential crap he’ll probably get from the front office.  He’s lucky George isn’t there to look over his shoulder ...

His next pitch nailed Didi in the ribs, then Girardi got himself tossed, then his third pitch of the inning/game bounced about 15 feet short, and McCutcheon eventually blooped a single to give Philly the lead.

That's the newest star of my fantasy team, so he'll regress to the mean very soon.

Also holy shit, I had no idea Trevor Cahill is still in the league.

i'm sure Lance Lynn's fantasy owners thought the same thing last year. who knows, he could be this year's Lynn.

Lynn finished 5th in Cy Young voting in 2019, behind Verlander, Cole, Bieber, and Morton.

Kershaw pinch hitting with the bases loaded because the Dodgers are out of position players.  Must be the 16th inning right?  OK, the 12th?  Nope, the 10th.

Teams carry too damn many pitchers now.
