I live about a mile or so from a company that does explosive welding to join dissimilar metals.  Most of their projects are small enough to do indoors, but they have a pool outside for large pieces.  When they do a large piece, at our house it sounds like a dump truck tailgate slamming shut really hard.  The first few we heard startled me a bit, but I got used to it.  Since I learned what the booms are, I hardly pay them any mind.  My wife still freaks out sometimes, though.

Very close thunder still gets my undivided attention.

Explosive welding....hmmm sounds like something I would enjoy.

It's pretty cool.  I've seen a cube that was 1/3 copper and 2/3 stainless steel.  They clamped a copper plate to a stainless plate, submerged them in a tank of water, then set off sheets of explosives a few inches on either side of the plates.  It pushes the plates together with such force that they meld at the interface.  The guy who told me about it told me that they made parts for US subs and other vessels there.  It was fascinating.

Whoa, maybe I can start a new career.

On Tuesday, my friend went in for an ablation procedure to treat atrial fibrillation. It's supposed to be a minimally invasive procedure, and for some, it can be an outpatient procedure. But there were, as the doctor said, "COMPLICATIONS".

For some reason, my friend start losing blood. A LOT of blood. He started bleeding out and lost about 2L (out of 6L in his body). He went into cardiac arrest and the hospital called a Code Blue. They did chest compressions and probably used a defibrillator to get his heart start pumping again. He woke up the next morning in the ICU and said his chest was black and blue from the compressions.

The fucker is only 42, in the best shape of his life, doing multiple sprint- and half-marathons in the past year. His kids are the same age as mine, 9 and 7. It's fucking scary how a routine procedure could go so wrong.

That is why you should not work out.

Your heart only has so many beats and you are using many more of them working out than people that sit in their recliner watching TV.

No CR.

If there are 100's of thousands of people crossing the southern border every month, when are we going to get to a point where everyone is here?  Won't we eventually run out of them?  And is this the gov't solution to illegal immigration, they are all just here now and there are no more illegals to cross the border?

On Saturday mornings I am very jealous of you Texas guys that can pull into a Home Depot and pick up a crew for a day. That has to be handier than hell.

If we are apprehending record numbers of illegal immigrants at the border then they’re not exactly getting in, are they?

Beetlejuice on SyFy.  Seriously, how did Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis die?  They fell like 10 feet off the bridge, didn't land directly on their roof, and at least one of their windows was down.  Did they not know how to swim?

Baldwin shot them accidentally.

“Accidentally.”  Not “negligently” or “recklessly.”  It makes a big difference and will be the difference in whether he gets charged.

Despite the decent analysis in the link, based on my experience practicing in SF County for the first 10 years of my career, and prosecuting when I was a baby lawyer, I don’t have a high degree of confidence that he will be charged or successfully prosecuted in SF County.

I'm reversing the trend.  I'm immigrating to Panama for the last part of my retirement.

Remember those red circle stickers that used to be commonly applied to bedroom windows in order to notify the fire department to check that room?

It doesn't seem like that's done any longer, but I wonder why. Are we just less interested in saving everyone? Were they discontinued because they're ineffective or otherwise unhelpful? Do firefighters have some newer technology that renders them useless?

Pederasts were using them to target which room housed the kids.

*I have done no research and in no way can I backup my statement.

I typically use 6 or 7 Q-tips after every shower.

Clean my ears & nostrils.

I mostly do a rando grab into the box & prob. 80% of the time, I end up with 6.

You clean your nostrils with Q-Tips?

I use Puffs.

And just one Q-Tip to very gently clean my ears after a shower.

When I brush my teeth I also brush my tongue. When I was a freshman, a roommate asked me, “Did you just brush your tongue?!” And I said, “Yeah.” I thought everyone did that. Everyone should. I don’t know if he ever adopted the practice.

It doesn’t appear that Miley Cyrus does and that’s just gross.

San Antonio is a murderous city.

I live in SA. It’s actually a pretty dangerous place and no one talks about it at all. Multiple  shootings everyday and 3-5 murders a week usually. There was a week in Feb that had 9 or 10 though. This year in particular has been bad so far.

It’s hard to explain but I also don’t feel unsafe here, basically ever. Even when I’m in the tougher hoods. Don’t buy/sell drugs and don’t honk at people and you’ll probably be ok.
