Tech fans bought up all remaining seats for the Feb 1st game. Nicknamed "Operation Austin Take Over"

Is this an accomplishment?

The last few years, Erwin Center has become South Lawrence and South Waco twice a year.

There will be mass suicides in Lubbock if we somehow beat that team.  I've never seen a more unhinged fanbase aside from maybe the Yankees/Dodgers these last few seasons.

Really?  You think everything should be just amicable as hell?

Lolz.  I don’t hate Beard. I do think he knew about SEC and I do think he could have handled it better. That’s all water under the dam now.

That being said, it’s Texas and I sincerely hope we beat your ass.  That has never changed.

Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose that game. Winning on the road in the 12 is hard and obviously y'all are well coached so /shrug

I bet you also say "I could care less"

It's a mute point.

deliberately surly lexicon, but now you had to ask and well...that's bad form.

a)i liked what Beard had to say, and b)i LOVED hearing Coach K, "you're already a leader here, and you're going to be called on for more leadership." man that was just music to my ears. our HC hasn't been respected like that since, i dunno, 2010 or something. the respect that Beard has from his peers and from people who cover the sport is one of the main reasons i'm in zero hurry to bury him for our slow start.

I’m not sure what to call all the bragging of all the other teams that have packed the Erwin Center besides Texas. Like Philly natives bragging about how tough crime is in their city.

I don't see bragging. I see an element of resignation. Erwin Center is a big arena that rarely sells out, with plenty of season ticket holders who don't actually care that much about basketball but get the tickets because they already spent a fortune in donating to the Longhorn Foundation for their club/suite/premium seating at DKR. If there's an opportunity to make some good money selling their tickets to rival fans, they're going to. Not every single person, obviously, but enough to make a difference in the composition in the stands.

Nature Boy's gonna be at the game in Lubbuttock? That actually is kind of awesome. Hope shows up wearing his cashmere sweater and $100 pleated slacks.

You know how he’s gonna get there. He’s gonna be jet flyin, limousine ridin.

TCU’s 3-1 in their last 4, including just beating ISU in Ames by 15. Their only loss was to OSU by 1.

I have no idea why we’re favored at TCU.

In its younger days, KenPom created a windfall for basketball bettors. It was more accurate than the sportsbooks at predicting how a game would turn out (particularly in terms of totals) and certain bettors caught on. Of course, it wasn’t long before the sportsbooks realized this and started using KenPom, themselves, when setting their odds.

These days, it’s uncommon to see a point spread at reputable college basketball betting sites that deviates from the KenPom predictions by more than a point or two, unless there’s a significant injury or suspension at play. More on that later.

I dont have the subscription necessary to access the predictions,  but I'm guessing Kenpom would predict a Texas win based on the current kenpom numbers. I think he uses about 3.5 pts for home court.

There can always be deviations between kenpom and the line because of injuries, but by this point in the season with a fair amount of data to work with, the lines are usually pretty close to kenpom's predictions.

yeah, I mean I figured as much. I guess I should've said I have no clue how we're that high in Kenpom and TCU seems underrated based on recent results.

I'm not sure Texas should be favored but it took a miracle for them to beat K-State.

K-State had like a 6 point lead with a minute left and somehow lost. I would say the only weird result in the last four for TCU was Iowa State.

I think I’ve changed my mind on Brock. While he obviously has limitations on offense I think he needs more minutes.

When Jones doesn’t have any offensive game going I would prefer to see Brock on the court. Better defender and rebounder.

He is, and usually has been, a good passer too.  Especially if teams go zone against us, he's pretty lethal passing out of the middle of the zone.  He definitely saved our bacon a few times last year doing just that to keep our offense flowing.

I would almost like Carr to go out for a few games just so we can see how the offense flows without him. We seemed to execute the motion offense the best we have all season with him out for a good portion. In hindsight, it does seem like Beard grabbed one too many guys who are used to having the ball in their hands for a majority of the game.

Has anyone seen anything about Disu's injury? Ever since he twisted his ankle against OSU his minutes have been super low and he hasn't looked great. He was one of our best players before that injury, so I doubt his performance has fallen off a cliff for no reason since then.

This is an interesting question but which 7 guys need the majority of minutes moving forward?

I think this has probably changed and has with me.

Allen
Mitchell
Bishop
Ramey
Jones
Carr
Cunningham

Which was the top 7 in minutes played last night.  Disu had 3 minutes.  But I really like Askew too, he had 12.

Up to #15 in Kenpom and #12 in T-Rank. NET hasn’t been updated yet.

Need Tennessee to hold serve tonight with Florida and they will be near the top 10 of NET. That’s a very winnable game in Austin despite their high NET ranking.

Beat Tennessee and we are going to be near the top 10 in NET.

Up to #16 in NET.  Tennessee is #11

Baylor is #4
Kansas is #7
Tech is #15
Texas is #16

Yeah the problem isn't having Cunningham play it's having Cunningham and Askew together on the court together for an extended period of time.

yeah, on a per 40 mimutes basis they both rank at the bottom for this years team from a scoring perspective.

Cunningham can certainly can certainly provide a positive spark in a game being "mr lunchpail", and Askew is a capable ball handler when he needs to spell people, but putting both on the court at the same time is definitely suboptimal. I haven't really paid much attention to it, but I'm guessing it doesn't happen too often.

I think having one of Cunningham and Askew on the court is a positive simply because they aren't scorers. As said earlier in the thread, we have too many guys that need the ball in their hands.

That's not really either of those guys. I get Askew runs point but he's not looking to score or really do anything offensively.

I think Carr has played too much so far but Beard is going to likely continue to give him as many mins as anyone. Ramey and Allen need to both be playing close to 30 basically every game. There are nights when AJ might be better than Ramey but Ramey is more consistent in terms of what he brings to the table every night and can still be valuable even if he isn't shooting well. The minutes question to me is how to distribute between Tre, Bishop, Cunningham and Disu and between AJ and Askew on any given night. Carr didn't play as much last night and that may be a good thing but I just don't see him not getting his minutes. Ramey and Allen are too important defensively to not be up there with our minutes leaders every game. Unless either of them is having an absolute headcase type performance or in foul trouble.

So I'd kind of put it into tiers like that and view it on a game to game basis. The difference between the 6th or 7th best dude on the team and the 9th best on any given night doesn't seem consistently large.

And then there will be games where Febres needs to give us 10 mins and hit a couple 3s or Licon needs to steady the offense for a bit.

It’s weird because he has some game, he has a smooth shot and pace. I’m excited to see where he goes, he is our high ceiling guy IMO.
