Chris Beard to Texas

Well CDC.... I guess we need to admit you may know what you are doing after all...

If Sark and Beard work out as expected, you are going to be a god at UT for awhile... Endzone project done, new arena, big name hires in the revenue sports and great hires in the other non revenue sports...

I agree with the first statement, but I hope to hell that the best part of this hire is that our basketball team stops underachieving.

We have six months before we start to find that out. In the meantime, enjoy sand aggy misery.

So football strikes out on every elite coach they go for over the past decade.

Basketball gets the top candidate and the consensus best "available to a big program" guy in the country.

We basketball school now?

Eh, many of those "elite coaches" we missed out on were under Patterson and Perrin.

God damn, we had the worst ADs when we needed to land an elite guy to replace Mack and the 2 of them fucked that up.

Didn't you get the memo?   Texas is now a basketball state!    Indiana has lost it's mojo...

Start shedding the $60 million dollar high school stadiums and build them arenas instead!  Lol.

Seriously CDC has done well with his hires....    The only missing piece maybe baseball, but we will see where we end up in June this year.

Chris Beard is a basketball world equivalent of Tom Herman in terms of Texas roots, moving from a Texas school, and being the hot shit name that others (LSU) wanted at the time. Now there are reasons to believe he will succeed where Herman bombed, but that's the reality.

Beard is not a Jay Wright or Mark Few, but he's not a Tom Herman either. He's actually won a high-major conference title, for one.

This is a terrible take (you can tell by who liked it first).

We didn't get Mark Few, we didn't get Coach K, etc. Those are the equivalents of the guys we've gone after in football that you're talking about striking out on.

Yeah uh, Beard is a fuck ton more proven than Herman was at the time. He was a few ticks away from winning a national championship at TEXAS TECH

Basketball is very different than football in that sense. A guy who has won a P5 conference in football would get looked at by a North Carolina equivalent. Beard basically didn't. The Texas/LSU Herman drama was ESPN bottom line material for an entire college football Thanksgiving weekend. It was a huge story and a huge hire, hindsight is the only reason people try not to remember that now.

And the main point is that quote I posted was comparing Beard to being able to hire Nick Saban or Urban Meyer for football. That's a terrible comparison.

You think Mark Few and Coach K are available for programs to poach? LMAO. Yeah, I'm definitely the one spouting off dumb shit here. While we're at it we should have called Gregg Popovich!

Chris Beard was easily the top guy out there that was reasonably available.

Now, the timing of Beard's fiancee "unexpectently" resigning from her coaching AND teaching position in December has me thinking this was likely in the works many months ago and parties were just waiting for now.

And who will Tech's new AD that will be hiring their next basketball coach as Hocutt should be shown the door quickly there

I'm just in shock that we managed to separate amicably with a coach without a huge buyout and shit show following, and then got our first choice coach almost instantly. I thought Texas coaching searches were supposed to be very public dumpster fires that make our AD look stupid in front of the whole world.

Of all the things to report why report that?  Why?  F U Kurt.

Just pay the 4 and if they complain tell them that they should be happy because they could just try to hide behind Sovereign Immunity to get around a contract obstacle...

Charlie Strong was our fourth or fifth choice that we know of. Sarkisian, we don't really know because CDC keeps things so close to the vest, but we know he wasn't our first.

Chris Beard was our guy and we got him.

We've been turned down by Gary Patterson, Jim Mora, Art Briles and lord knows who else. Comparing those guys to Coach K and Mark Few is one of the stupidest takes on the basketball board in awhile. Two of those chumps aren't even employed at the college level anymore.
