LOGANVILLE, Ga — Grayson high school is one of the most talent rich programs in the nation. Today, Texas got one of its top talents.

2019 Loganville (GA) Grayson CB Kenyatta Watson II committed to Texas on Tuesday, choosing the Longhorns over his other finalist, Notre Dame. He holds 40 offers including Florida State, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and OU.

The hair-under-6-foot-2 cover corner with a 4.1 shuttle and 4.5 (40) was once committed to Florida State, but backed out late last year. Watson and his family wanted a spot that was like home.

When they met Tom Herman, Jason Washington, and the City of Austin, they knew UT had a shot. Texas made him a priority, with the Watsons visiting on multiple occasions in the last six months. After his official visit last weekend, this recruitment was over.

Excerpt from the Recruiting Notebook:

How he fits at Texas: Watson played some corner a year ago and was solid closing and tackling but some of his most impressive work was coming off his man to make a tackle or to play a throw in the deep field. As a 6-1, 180 pound son of a former Dallas Cowboy, he’s pretty well drilled on the fundamentals of the game and has not yet begun to fill out like he inevitably will in college. When he’s 200+ with the same technique and love of closing and tackling he figures to be a really great safety prospect. At Texas he’d probably fit best on the boundary but because of his background and skill development he may be flexible like Jason Hall where he could play in a lot of areas of the field as a dime. – IB

Coach says: Strengths – A tall corner with fluid hips and excellent recovery speed. Very physical at the line, contesting for the ball and a willing tackler. Definitely room to add muscle to rangy body. Flips his hips well but not too soon. Good agility. Stays in phase with the receiver and rarely deceived. Squares up regularly on tackles and is very willing even if not consistent with fundamentals. Seems to want to mix it up in the run game. Special teams highlights show great burst off the edge in punt block. Seems like a fun player to watch. Looks confident and understands man and zone coverage responsibilities. Interview with dad on Irish Sports Daily suggests a grounded family as his father was a letterman at Boston College. Being far from home not a problem. Areas for Concern – I’d like to see him hold on to the football. Didn’t always locate the ball in the highlights choosing the man instead.

How this affects Texas: Texas and the Watson’s have been in touch since last Spring, followed by a visit last Summer. Once Kenyatta Jr walked on the 40 Acres, it was his home away from home. Watson is different cat; the type of kid made for Austin, TX. He’s looked at his recruitment from all angles, even before he de-committed from Florida State. The numbers from UT’s 2018 DB haul don’t scare him, nor should they. Green and Cook are the only natural corners, Jamison is a nickel or slot, Overshown is probably a rover, and BJ & Caden are safeties. I’ve felt fairly confident here and after speaking to his dad, I feel even better. Austin >>> South Bend. – JW

Watson is the fifth member of the 2019 class joining De’Gabriel Floyd (Westlake – CA), Jordan Whittington (Cuero), T’Vondre Sweat (Huntsville), and Roschon-Johnson (Port Neches-Groves)

Yeah I'm pretty damn stoked.

If this is what it takes to get more Emma Watson gifs, then I hope we recruit 25 players named Watson every year.

(No, not suggesting Emma as a replacement for Kate, just as an addition)
