LaVar Ball rose to prominence by making countless outlandish statements about himself and his basketball-playing sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo.

It’s kind of his thing.

But at some point, LaVar needs to step back and listen to what he’s saying because there’s a difference between believing in your sons and being objectively wrong.

LaVar’s claim that his middle son, LiAngelo, is better and stronger than Zion Williamson, for example, is wildly and objectively wrong.

In a super-zoomed-in FaceTime interview with TMZ Sports, LaVar first went on to hype up LiAngelo’s NBA prospects. The 20-year-old LiAngelo played in Lithuania last year and LaVar’s JBA league. He was not drafted and did not receive any G League or Summer League invites. LaVar said of LiAngelo:

“Man, watch what Gelo do this year. Watch what Gelo do this year. Want some more guarantees? I guarantee he’s gonna be in the Summer League. I guarantee he’s gonna have an NBA contract this year. How’s that? The biggest and the strongest 2-guard in the NBA right now. Ain’t nobody built like him at the 2-guard. Nobody — 6-6, 240. He can shoot the 3, post you up, kill you. But you gonna see.”

When asked specifically if LiAngelo would have been a lottery pick this year, LaVar went after Zion Williamson.

“Man, if Gelo was coming out, doing his thing, he’d be the first pick. This year, he’d be the first pick. Can’t nobody hold a candle to that boy. He (Zion) can’t hold a candle to that boy. Why? Because he’d shoot his lights out, and he’s stronger than Zion. He can be big, but he ain’t no Big Baller. He’s a Williamson.”

At this point, you can’t even take LaVar seriously here.

If he really believed that LiAngelo had top-pick potential after two years of college, why would he pull him out of UCLA after the China arrest? By LaVar’s logic, it would have been better for LiAngelo to take his season-long suspension, stay at UCLA, star as a redshirt freshman and cash in on a potential $41 million rookie deal. You’re not taking LiAngelo out of UCLA, having him play for a Lithuanian bottom-dweller and beg (unsuccessfully) for a Summer League spot if you actually believe LiAngelo is better than Zion.

That would be an epic self-own, if so.

LiAngelo should have been a four-year college player who could have developed into an NBA player. He’s nowhere close to Zion, but, of course, we already knew that. LaVar does too.

Watching that tells me we made the right move.   Getting rid of this assclown is a victory in and of itself.

Lavar is the greatest thing to land in LA in forever. Dudes been right ever since the get go. Terrible move for the Lakers. See ya in 2030 when they're maybe relevant again

Or 2020.

I serious hope that writer is like a high school kid on a internship.  No way a legit journalist would have actually spent the ink to write that story.

He really is the slightly smarter black Trump. All the stupidity, ridiculous comments, and ridiculous actions. Just(as far as I know) without the massive criminal activity and probably a much better father and husband than trump.

I said that in the other thread.  The thing that makes him most like Trump is the utter refusal to back down from stupid shit he's said.  Ball and Trump both know that if you just keep repeating something to keep you in the news, that's the win in itself.

Charles Barkley gets pushed into commenting on lavar

https://sports.yahoo.com/charles-barkley-lavar-ball-idiot-espn-comments-215013203.html

"Wherever LaVar Ball is, there's a village missing an idiot," Barkley said. " ... We should just keep LaVar off television. That would be the best way to be."

“Not just New Orleans, Louisiana, not Los Angeles, [LaVar]’s an idiot in all 50 states,” Barkley said. “It’s really unfair to his son. His son is a good player and a nice kid.”

Big Ballers don't need no World Wide leader.... Make a Big Baller Network?!?

Honestly, what did they expect though? More grandstanding from ESPN. Put dumbass on air, have him say some stupid shit that gets them a bunch of cheap views, then act like they're doing the world a favor by taking him off.

Get them while they’re hot.

Do $5 clearance Big Baller Brand T-shirts spell the official end of LaVar Ball's brand?

Lonzo Ball is wearing Nikes.

He’s sued a Big Baller Brand co-founder for an alleged “fraudulent scheme.”

He’s covered up his Big Baller Brand tattoo.

And now he’s left the bright lights of Los Angeles for the relative obscurity of New Orleans, where any shot he had at being a visible spokesmen will be lost.

The demise of Big Baller Brand has been evident for a long time.

But nothing quite nails it home like a $5 clearance sale.

L.A. Sports radio, a Twitter account dedicated to the L.A. sports radio scene, spotted a Big Baller Brand booth at a local volleyball tournament over the weekend. The company appears to be in everything-must-go mode.

If you can’t read the white board in that image, here are some of the highlights:

“Clearance Sale”

“Cash only”

“T-shirts $5”

“Hats $5”

“Hoodies $15”

“Shorts 20”

For $100, lucky customers could have gotten a package that included shoes, a hoodie, a T-shirt and a pair of socks.

Not a bad deal considering that the first pair of Big Baller Brand “ZO2” shoes were sold for $495 and may or may not have eventually arrived months after online orders. Those delivery struggles and unresponsive customer service helped prompt an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.

On Sunday, lucky customers could have walked home with a pair of shoes and an outfit to match at an 80 percent discount.

So yeah. If the website that’s still under construction and a report that the Ball family was considering shuttering the brand didn’t convince you that Big Baller Brand was done, this photo of a sad booth operator shilling clearance merchandise at a volleyball tournament should.

The news leaves one prevalent question — does the brand’s demise also signal the end of LaVar Ball’s time as a public figure?

That makes me feel sad for the kids. He should boss up and tell him it’s his brand and money

Lonzo should tell LaVar "good luck with that" and sign a real shoe deal.  He needs to cut bait with Dad.

LaVar is so convinced that these kids are only what they are because of him.  What a clown.
