Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

Mullen's classes sure don't seem to be the result of some special bag infrastructure in place. Pretty big leap to suddenly outbagging this year's Aggies

Mullen had the personality of paste. This may come as a surprise to you, but all bags being equal, a coach's personality still matters.

I notice that you're not exactly arguing my point on merits. Do you think the church Dabo Swinney uses to funnel money to players gets up and moves to Tuscaloosa if he takes the Alabama job one day? Do you think Big Red Motors just up and disappears when a coach leaves Oklahoma? Or the giant Texags building disappears from its location next to campus? That the casinos in Louisianna suddenly disappeared and are no longer capable of funneling money to players as soon as Orgeron skipped town? Or that local hospital?

It's one thing for a coach to have an understanding of how the cheating is done. It's another thing for a coach to approach boosters and whip their asses into line and motivate them to put something tangible together so they can compete for players. It's another thing entirely to assume a coach is going to come to town, and single handedly start a bunch of fucking LLCs and business from the ground up through which they can funnel money to players. Please tell me you can wrap your brain around the difference here.

So... what I'm hearing is, coaches now need an "Assistant to the Head Coach" who can manage that bullshit, so the coach can focus on developing players, processes, and plans.

You think Gary Patterson is some kind of savant in regards to bag infrastructure? Based on...all the star players he lured to TCU? Wielding the awesome power of the approximately 4500 living alumni of TCU? Well...that's one way to live a life of delusion. Personally, I'd pick better delusions, maybe starring Tara Davis in a romp with my wife.

Florida’s boosters are highly motivated.  They just fired Dan Mullen in year 4 after his first three years went like this:

Year 1:  10-3, won the Peach Bowl, #6 in final polls.

Year 2: 11-2, won the Orange Bowl, #7 in final polls

Year 3: 8-4, barely lost the SEC championship game, lost the Cotton Bowl, #12 in final polls.

Three straight major bowls, and he’s done midseason in one bad year, in large part because he wasn’t recruiting like the other SEC powers.  I think the signal is they’re done fucking around.

Look at Florida's staff. They're definitely done fucking around.

The Perkins news shouldn't be surprising at all if you've paid attention to their staff hires. I bet Florida will be right in the mix for Mathews too.

I never disagreed that infrastructure carries over and I never said Napier himself is doing the legwork. But does that really mean a new staff has no impact on it? Ex: A&M had infrastructure for a long time, but suddenly they bring in Jimbo and a bunch of UGA bagmen and ramp it up to 10. Similar for Kirby at UGA, Pruitt and co at TN, Freeze at Ole Miss, etc.

All I'm saying is it seems like the Florida staff has done quick work ramping things up at Florida because Mullen couldn't bag a grocery even after some good seasons and now suddenly Florida might be entering A&M/UGA bag levels.

If he's truly decommitted, as in, this isn't just a big show to make his February signing feel more dramatic, then I strongly like our chances here. His mom apparently loves UF. That being said, and I hate to say it, but this kid sounds like trouble. All the interviews he's done make him sound like a diva and a pain in the ass.

As Lsu fan has said over and over and over again. It's only about money with him. If he's going to Lsu then yall are illegally paying him. Because it was made very clear. This is bags, not NIL.

Perkins Interview This dude is a certified clown and a cancer to a program. I would want no part of him

Hearing some grumblings that Deion is trying to get him to Jackson State, but it's more likely that he'll end up at Florida or LSU.

Apparently Florida is throwing money at him but his uncle, who is his handler, lives in NO and likes LSU a lot on a personal level as an LA guy.

Also hearing that he was good to go to Aggy until Florida and LSU started pushing hard and then Aggy decided to forfeit.

aTm didn’t have the modern infrastructure. Which is why Jimbo wasn’t crushing it with classes like this until year 4. Sure, staff matters. But it takes time to square things away.

When will we get infrastructure to compete with that level?

In the bag game? Never, unless some posters here win the fucking powerball.

I am interested to see how the NIL changes the way some of these 5 stars actually play in college. Perkins and Stewart have a lot of bust vibes flowing, as does Blue. Blue being an early enrollee hopefully changes his attitude, but this class might be remembered more for the 5-star busts more than anything else.

We would be smart to dangle a carrot in front of Blue and not redshirt him this year. Get him on a few special teams units. Maybe we can actually blow out a few teams and get him some action. Just think it would be smart to keep his head in the game or you are right, he is destined for the portal.

Well shit, based on how last year went with injuries he may be starting before the end of the season.

When did Fong increase his CB confidence on Campbell to 8? It was originally 6 but now showing as 8. Hadn't seen that.

Looks like 8s are pretty rare from Fong

Didn’t fong recently give Brini an 8 to Texas?

Hope not. We have (potentially) 2 5-stars on oline in this class.

When the administration gets completely cleaned out and realizes what it takes to win. It’s not even a coach thing at this point as has been pointed out previously.

How does that square with this tweet from one of the TFB guys? Is the thought that the admin is actively blocking boosters from doing this stuff?

No. It’s cultural. Texas boosters don’t want to cheat. They’re snobs. We’re having to talk real slow and hold hands to explain how NIL is Legal. I’ve told this story repeatedly, but these are literally guys who were incensed at the SEZ because athletes don’t need great facilities, the value of a university of texas degree is reward enough.

Mike at Night: Notes on wide receiver recruiting

Mike Roach

Spoiler

Mike at Night: Notes on wide receiver recruiting

Mike Roach

— I spent time at Desoto today with Johntay Cook. The four-star wide receiver was a notable absence for Texas over the weekend, but he made it clear that it has nothing to do with how he feels about the Longhorns. I think at this point he's familiar enough with Texas, and I'm not sure he liked all the buzz about him and Texas calling him a lock. Cook is invested in the process and wants to make sure he sees all of his options. Right now, Texas is joined by A&M and Alabama as schools at the top for Cook. Alabama will be tough competition, but I believe this could develop into an in-state race. A big reason for A&M's standing is wide receiver coach Dameyune Craig. Cook has an outstanding relationship with the A&M assistant and it's playing a role. Cook is working on his relationship with Brennan Marion and it's off to a good start.

— Cook told me early on that while he got along well with Andre Coleman, he liked the hire of Marion to replace him. Marion has an ability to relate to younger players, and the development of Jordan Addison appeals to Cook. On the A&M side, Cook is looking to see what the production at the position looks like. On the Texas side, he just wants to see the team produce more wins and feel there's stability with Steve Sarkisian long-term. Cook is also connecting with other players such as Rueben Owens and Arch Manning to discuss playing together at the next level. One thing Cook wants is to be a part of a potential number one class. Cook is a highly-productive receiver who cashed in with 19 touchdowns on 38 receptions last season. He loves the scheme and the ability to get open in Sark's offense.

— Speaking of Marion, he got rave reviews from the staff at DeSoto. Marion was in the building when the doors opened and left at the end of the day. He spent time with the coaching staff going over wide receiver drills and talking about the coaching points he emphasizes. Marion played at Tulsa where Desoto wide receiver coach Montiese Colton also played, and the two connected. In talking with coaches who have hosted Marion over the last few weeks, they've talked about the time he takes to sit down and connect with the programs he visits. I also spoke with the father of Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep wide receiver Jalen Brown Marion and he have talked and the five-star speedster is setting up a visit for the spring.

— Texas lost out on Georgia transfer safety Latavious Briniover the weekend. I didn't have a lot of luck getting info on him leading up to the weekend, but I checked in with some sources when it was announced a decision was coming. There was some optimism as a source I talked to thought Texas had a chance, but I never got an overwhelming amount of information on that front. I'm not sure if I can pinpoint anything in particular that went wrong for Texas, but Arkansas is doing a phenomenal job recruiting the portal. Texas found a good amount of success as well and will continue to evaluate options there.

— Nick had a long update on Harold Perkins today. I don't have much to add there, but it will be interesting to see if Texas can get him back to campus for a visit. There are some sources near Perkins indicating Texas is still in it, but it's tough to have a lot of confidence unless he makes another trip to Austin.

This "sentence" makes me want to stab my eyes with rusty forks. People get paid to post shit like this?

Also, where are Jalen Brown Marion's highlights? I can't find them.

Much as I love dunking on 9.95er writing, I think that's a pretty innocent typo - missed the period after Brown.
