Jake Ehlinger found dead near campus

There then gone. Hard to get your head around the death of the young.
I recall watching the programs marking the 50 year anniversary of different events in WWII. Those 70 and 80 year old men crying their guts out in the cemetary at Normandy was so moving. At 70 you get the full picture of what a young man misses when he dies young.
The Ehlingers have two such suddenly concluded timelines. They'll be haunted over the years as they mark what was missed. Some Thanksgiving in the 2040s will go quiet for a moment. Maybe there will be a chair simply left empty. It will become a reminder. Tears will flow or be fought back.
It's not terribly rare, but, in every case, it must feel so intensely personal.
And there is so little a stranger like me can do. I hope all goes as well as it can for the survivors. There's no getting around the fact that this is just bad. Keep moving, my friends.

A post worth quoting. Well said.
