Simmons needs to accept that he's a 4 and just embrace it. if he would do that and work on learning the in's and outs of that position he could be fine. look at where Zion takes all of his shots from. Ben needs to get over the idea of being a PG and try to play like Zion. still work on catch-and-shoot threes and FTs, but play like the athletic big man that you are.

My love for all things curry is well established, but if can't afford to take Steph's little bro off the floor--even when he's being roasted by [checks notes] Kevin Huerter--because he's consistently been your second best offensive threat all series, then you've made some suboptimal personnel and coaching decisions.

I thought the process was a disgrace to competitive athletics and an insult to the fans in Philly and the basketball gods. That said, they fucked it up. So many assets, so many stupid picks, bad trades, and bad signings. And whatever they were doing internally with regard to player development certainly didn't work.

I feel bad for Ben Simmons. He shouldn't be this broken. It's painful to watch a guy who should be dominating fail at the most fundamental skill in the game.

Non-zero chance that in a few years the consensus will be that the Hawks won the Luka trade.

This is much more of an indictment of the Mavs front office than it is the actual players. Compare the cast Trae has vs Luka's. It's laughable. And not to mention Rick Carsisle and his bozo in game decisions.

They married themselves to Porzingis and he is about as worthless as Ben Simmons.

His issue is much bigger than that. Dude doesn't even attempt to shoot. We seriously don't even know whether he's a bad shooter. I've never seen such an enormous mental block in a certifiably talented basketball player. Verifiably bad shooters like Giannis and Westbrook still jack up 3s like there's no tomorrow. His own teammate Matisse Thybulle has launched over 300 3s in his career and came into the league as with the rep of a garbage shooter. Simmons' personality type strikes me as a guy who cant stomach publicly "looking bad" when doing something. Like the kid in middle and high school you played sports with who always went out of their way to "look pretty" while playing. Simmons is the grown up version of that. Style over substance.

KD's mom to PJ: "I love you too." 😂 i love it.

This was funny.  It was right after PJ clobbered KD and his mom was yelling about it.   PJ heard her and told her he loved her.

Yeah, I've been thinking this for a while.   I do think he could stay at PG if they went a lot more uptempo.   Run at every opportunity.   Him in the open court is great.    Then when running opps arent there get Embiid the ball on the block.

If he is going to move to PF then he could play like Giannis.   Be too quick for most concentrate on getting to the bucket every time.   Work on a post game.

That can work great (the PG part) during the regular season but I can’t see it getting them through a best of 7 against a talented team.
they have to break it up. Sending Simmons to Portland for CJ makes sense for the blazers with a pairing with Dame. It gives the Sixers a shot creator and more outside shooting, but I don’t know if the defense is sustainable for them- they will get roasted by bigger guards in the half court I would think.

Are we finally seeing the end of these one way defensive players?  I know that coaches LOVE these guys for some reason.  You can be a defensive guy but you can't be a complete black hole.  If you're 7'2" and can't make the other team pay for a running a 6'8" guy out there, you're basically useless.  Throughout basketball history, we've seen guys like this compromise 2-3 of the starting slots but now it's down to basically 1 if that.  Simmons is a complete black hole, which means the other 4-6 guys have to score 100+ points by themselves and that's an uphill climb.  People would bitch about Westbrook's shooting with the Thunder but they'd routinely have 2-3 guys in the rotation that couldn't score so basically the 3 main stars are having to score 25+ a piece.

Trae Young had five buckets in a game 7 and the Hawks won. This team continues to be so un-Atlanta.

I was saying this all game.    Trae is cold as ice and they still were in the game........on PHIs floor.    That aint just Simmons.   That's a failure of the whole org.

Think its that the skill level in the NBA is higher than ever so if you have a guy with a hole in their game it gets exploited come playoff time.

Even offensive specialists have nowhere to hide now. In the past you could have a guy like Seth Curry stand in the corner and defend some dude that will barely ever put the ball on the floor. Now you have random guys like Kevin Huerter that can abuse matchups like that.

Yeah this is a problem.   If guys like Gobert cant post up 6'8 guys then WTF is he doing on the floor for?    It was a lot of the same with Lopez for MIL but at least he is a decent 3P shooter now but having a guy with a good post game not taking advantage of mismatches is coaching malpractice.

To be fair to Gobert, the Clippers and Nets are probably the worst match-up for him. Probably does fine against the Bucks, Suns, or Hawks.

Maybe so but isnt that the coach's job to recognize that and get him off the floor?

that'd be pretty magical for him to transform into.  he doesn't shoot threes now, you envision him being a catch and shoot 3 guy?

The biggest hurdle he has is just attempting threes. Guys like Lonzo Ball and other bad shooters were at least willing to shoot them prior to improving their shot.

Lopez is actually extremely effective in the post. Budenholzer, in his infinite wisdom, just didn't mix in any post touches for Lopez in his "your turn, my turn" offense.
Don't know why Bud and other coaches don't take more heat for not recognizing and playing up their strengths. We all understand that it is s player driven league. But good coaching still matters.

Brook Lopez should never just stand in the corner with his hands on his knees while waiting for a pass.

Ben Simmons was drafted in 2016 and has improved exactly nothing in 5 years.

Maybe a change of scenery will help but usually guys that are gonna improve over time...you know...actually improve from year to year. There's an upward trajectory in certain areas of their game.

I don't know anything about Simmons personally but maybe basketball is not his passion.

He once dated Kendall Jenner. That might be the problem.
