So the entity known as Carl had some good info.

No. He was claiming that KG is a silent and he witnessed it going down including watching the kid confirm it with his mother. Also, a silent isn’t an immediate public announcement.

The Benson stuff has been in the cards for a while and he’s a “culture guy” and supposed to have a great story. Anyone who knows it should feel free to tell us about it.

Tech fans loved this guy, so this twists that knife deeper, which is delicious. Their RedRaiderInsider board is ... not happy.

Which thread? I didn't find anything.

I haven’t looked now that he’s committed to Texas. The “who’s staying, who’s leaving” updates when he went into the portal and the speculation of maybe Texas from 2-3 weeks ago is what I’m thinking. Now I’m hoping the one wingnut writes an angry treatise against him replete with a bunch of words none of us have heard of.

Maybe this kid asked for extra butter at a buffet too

From Nick Harris:

Spoiler

As Chris Beard and the new Texas staff continue to search for portal options to fill depth holes in the 2021-22 roster, they officially will welcome in a familiar face to help serve an off-the-bench role next season with former Texas Tech shooting guard Avery Benson.

Benson played in 71 games in three seasons at Texas Tech under Chris Beard and Ulric Maligi, including 20 games this past season. Benson averaged 1.3 points per game and shot 60-percent from the field last season in 20 appearances.

In his three seasons in Lubbock, Benson emerged as a Red Raider fan favorite with his electric personality. Benson will be able to serve a role that will help electrify Texas' locker room while also getting some solid on-the-court looks much like he saw last season. He is expected to be on scholarship for one season before moving on.

Originally from Springdale, Arkansas, the 6-foot-4, 195 pound Benson was originally a walk-on in 2017 out of Southwest Christian Academy. Chris Beard offered Benson a scholarship when he was on the job at Arkansas-Little Rock before offering him a walk-on spot at Texas Tech upon arriving in Lubbock. Benson entered the transfer portal on May 24 and quickly made his decision to play in Austin for Chris Beard once again. Benson is officially enrolled and is on campus participating in team workouts.

Benson serves as the fifth transfer addition for Texas since the arrival of Chris Beard as he joins Creighton transfer Christian Bishop, Vanderbilt transfer Dylan Disu, Utah transfer Timmy Allen and Kentucky transfer Devin Askew. The five transfers also join three returnees Andrew Jones, Brock Cunningham and Jase Febres along with Texas' lone 2021 signee Jaylon Tyson. With the current roster at 10 players, Beard is now searching for depth roles considering the talent already on campus will most likely serve as the bulk of the 2021-22 contributing cast.

Sources have indicated that the Texas staff is in no rush to fill the remaining spots on the roster and will carefully make additions all the way up until the start of the fall semester. Multiple scholarship spots remain up for grabs with that number not being dependent on Jericho Sims who will not count against the 2021-22 scholarship count if he were to return to Texas next season. With Sims' draft outlook appearing meek, the likeliness of him returning to Austin continues to grow, but remains a toss-up.

So is he a non-scholarship roster spot??

Pretty sure he was a walk-on at Tech.

Was very unlikely that we were going to come close to using up all 13 scholarships so he is getting a 1 year scholarship

It seems Dustin might not know of what he speaks/writes...”Expectation is he joins the program in some capacity, but Benson hasn’t confirmed status. Workouts start next week.”

Because according to Nick Harris....

It's been known for a while that he was leaving.  That in and of itself was disappointing enough.

Having him follow Beard to UT makes sense, even if  it is still going to suck moosecock to see Benson in calf scours colors.

Can't help but wish the best for the young man.  He gives the team/ program everything he has... and then some.  That's why he is so beloved.

I read Dustin’s update to mean “people are telling us he’s coming, but Benson isn’t returning our texts.”
