Well, we're #2 in D1 when it comes to fielding percentage.  If our pitchers -- IF -- can do what Keith & Z & Pierce have been talking about all year, and pitch to contact, we will rarely fuck it up in the field.

The problem is . . .

Yeah, about that "IF"...

And, if throwing strikes consistently, keep the mashed meatballs from traveling more than 330-ish feet down the lines and 390-ish to center.

Also, @Fletch: dude, time to give up on Cobb.  He's outside of Pierce's trust circle, apparently.

I'm glad Pierce said that.  It's such a pussy move to cancel games because of an RPI hit, and let's be honest, it's not the minor hit with a victory they're concerned about -- it's the bigger hit with a loss, and we all know baseball, any game is a potential loss.

Good for us.  Play 'em and deal with the consequences.

Yeah Pierce is a man about this kind of stuff. He’s always looking for more innings and reps. Some of his early scheduling was absurd. Glad we reeled it back some.

Curious how we approach the conference tournament. We normally go like 1-2 or so under Pierce which is the way I like it. Get home and rest up. But this team runs off confidence. Winning the conference tournament after (hopefully) sweeping Kansas and finishing the regular season on an 8-1 run would give us a much needed confidence boost. I’m not as excited about this postseason as I was in, say, 04, but man I’m ready to see this lineup and Hansen and Gordon perform on the big stage. And if we go on a run, who’s the hero we need but don’t deserve? Morehouse? Stevens? Harrison? Which bottom half of the lineup guy goes on a tear? Campbell? Messinger? I’m looking forward to it.

These projections are as worthless as the NCAA Basketball Tournament projections are.

They don't mean shit, pluse a lot will happen between now and selection Sunday.

If we want to host a regional we need to win the Big XII tournament and that is how we should approach it.

So what does this conversation look like if we drop one against KU?

That hurts from a RPI perspective but we wouldn’t drop in the rankings if we still won the series. Although I guess at this point rankings don’t mean anything.

KU has won 4 conference games. Three of those were Friday games in which Hegarty pitched a CG or went 8 innings (WV, KSU and Baylor).  The other was a Sunday victory at Lubbock in which they hit Tech's Sunday guy hard.

We ain't hosting or in the convo if we drop one to KU.

Already on the outside looking in, needing to win the conference tournament.  I don't see it happening at all.

Not that I don’t care, just the hosting ship sailed after we sucked ass against tcu and okie state. Would obviously still love to host but fuck it. I wouldn’t mind blowing up some top 16 seeds season. Especially sayyyyyy aggy or arky

A lot of teams have hit Tech hard on Sundays.

just saw Tulo on MLBN saying that "MLB teams are crazy if Ivan Melendez isn't the first hitter drafted." love seeing that.

I ain’t no scout, but I have a difficult time imagining 100+ plus dudes worth drafting ahead of Melendez.

In what way does he grade negatively? He’s shown marked improvement this year offensively and defensively.

And it’s not like he’s getting hitting instruction from a dude unfamiliar with the pro game.

He hits for power and gets on base at a good clip when he doesn't. He doesn't chase or swing at junk or get into slumps. He hits pitches all over the zone and can hit opposite on occasion. I don't think he's had more than a couple bad plays on D all season. He's as close to a complete college first baseman as you'll ever see. I think the only knock on him is that he's 22.

I always wondered what it’d be like to see a Pujols type play in college. I think we’re witnessing that now. He’s got Aaron Judge level potential

I bought my wife an explorer from bluebonnet ford in New Braunfels, and the sales manager told us that it was a courtesy vehicle due to it being driven by David Pierce. He said they get to drive brand new vehicles for a couple thousand miles and then ford dealerships around the area sell them as courtesy vehicles. Not totally on topic but kind of lol. If we continue to find ways to shit the bed I'll catch him crossing a street in Austin and run his ass over with it.

RPI check:

Current- 21

Predicted- 20

This doesn't include any conference tournament matchups so it's basically just projecting we win the next two.

We really need Bama to take a game against Arkansas and do something in the SEC tournament. They are 56 in RPI and it would be nice if those 3 wins became Q1 wins.

Question about school records:  does Titanic have to hit another HR this weekend to tie Russell or does postseason get included?

The postseason gets included. Russell hit his last homer that year in the Regional against Brown:

https://texassports.com/news/2007/6/1/060107aaa_499.aspx

So Ivan already has tied the regular season record for UT.

But in order to set the post-2002 regular season home run record for the nation I think Melendez has to hit four homers in these last two games.

Wut?

I think he means save your ace for game two, which is a risky strategy I would rather not see us do in the current circumstances.

Though I guess if we do end up hosting pitching Gordon or Morehouse against a #4 seed might not be the worst idea but I don't know. Every team has one good pitcher, rather not risk a loser's bracket situation with our pitching depth issues.

I like the idea of flipping the starters if you’re the 1 seed but I don’t we will be that. Otherwise just a weird statement I think. Lucas has been awesome this year but Pete is the only pitcher we have that can close the door for 9 full innings. He pounds the strikezone, doesn’t give up many hits, and has pitched in big games before. He can give up HRs if he leaves the ball up but that’s the only way people score on him.

Bought 2 tickets this morning to see the UT record broken tonight.
