Gihm making the tour was "The coolest thing I saw today" according to SVP

Yep. He drained a 5-6 footer for par on 18 to have him finish at -9. Was good enough to place 23 on the top 25 of the KF Finals and get his card. Scheduler won the whole finals. Placed in top 25 for the year and the top spot in the Finals.

No. 18 Men's Golf wins East Lake Cup

Freshman Travis Vick clinches win on 18th hole

ATLANTA — The No. 18 Texas men's golf team defeated Oklahoma State in the championship match to capture the 2019 East Lake Cup. Sophomore Parker Coody, senior Spencer Soosman, and freshman Travis Vick all won their matches to secure the victory for the Longhorns in the final tournament of the fall schedule.

"I'm really excited for our guys. Anytime you win it's a big deal," head coach John Fields said. "To come in here and get a victory at East Lake, shoot 10-under par in the [stroke] play round and really make a little bit of a statement - not to anybody else, but to ourselves - because we need a little bit of validation. We know we're a good team, but we just hadn't seen anything positive."

Soosman closed out his match on No.15 with a 5&3 victory. Vick and Coody won their matches 1UP, with Vick accounting for the championship-clinching point to seal the win.

The threat of serious weather held off long enough for the men and women to be able to finish their rounds, however, the conditions were less than ideal with intermittent rain and wind.

"The weather was really, really tough," Vick said. "It was a little bit windy and it was rainy, so there's a lot of towels being wet and little factors that come into play. So being able to come out on top and for our team to win is really neat."

As Texas wraps up their season with an East Lake Cup win and heads into the offseason, Fields believes that the positives that will come out of this win will motivate and drive his team into the spring.

"All the positives that are going to come out of this particular semester are really good and we get to enjoy [it] just a little bit more because of this win. The kids will all take an unbelievable amount of experience [away] and the pressure was significant," Fields said.

Quick Quotes

  • "I can't ask for more as a coach," - Coach Fields on East Lake Cup win.
  • "It was an incredible experience. The volunteers were fantastic, the venue, East Lake, is incredible. Being able to walk the grounds of all the professional golfers is neat,"- Travis Vick on his first East Lake Cup experience

I was live posting on a different thread. Hope y'all DVR'd the East Lake Cup.

Big win for the team.

Hammer crumbled and lost 2&1 but Vick somehow salvaged what would have been disastrous after being up 3 with 4 to play. 18 was a roller coaster for Vick playing from rough in pouring rain, came 4 feet from dunking it in water on 2nd shot, won match with a 5 as osu saudi kid failed to sink birdie.

Baring injuries, these M&W’s will be fun teams to watch as they are both legitimate top teams in the country.

Roden was one of the starting five for the 5A Texas state title-winning Dallas Highland Park Highlanders in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Roden was also the individual title winner in 2017. In the amateur circuit, he took 19th this summer at the Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship.

"We are happy to welcome Scott Roden to our team," Fields said of his signee. "He will be an early arrival this January. Having won the 2017 5A Texas State Individual Championship, Scott follows in a long line of Highland Park golfers who have had a tremendous impact on our team.  Scottie Scheffler, Cody Gribble and Charlie Holland all won state high school individual championships while at Highland Park.  We look forward to watching him grow as a player over these next few years."

Fojtasek has had some impressive finishes in the amateur circuit, including a third-place finish at both the 2019 Southern Championship and the 2019 Veritex Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship. He added a 12th-place finish in the 2019 C.T. Pan Junior Championship, and 11th place finishes in both the 2018 Under Armour/Jordan Spieth Championship presented by American Campus Communities and the 2018 Southern Junior Championship.

"Randall Fojtasek has tremendous upside as a player," Fields said of 6-foot-3 Fojtasek. "His size and speed dictate tremendous possibility when it comes to golf as a power game. His finishes at the Southern Junior Amateur along with this past summer's 2019 Veritex Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship point towards a successful career. Randall has a work ethic that is reminiscent of the best players I have coached. Randall will be a big part of our future."

Both Roden and Fojtasek are natives of Dallas, Texas and are both currently attending Highland Park. Fojtasek joined Roden for the 2019-20 season after attending St. Mark's School of Texas for the first three years of high school.

The predawn workouts, the plush practice facilities, the competition to make the tournament team and, yes, the occasional jaunt on a private jet.

Jordan Spieth reveals newest Under Armour golf shoe, the Spieth 4

https://www.golf.com/gear/2020/01/16/jordan-spieth-reveals-under-armour-golf-shoe-spieth-4/

Spieth-4-1.jpg

The most eye-catching design element in the shoe rests across the back ridges of it. A large ergonomic outline of a steer (or longhorn) is built into the heel, with the Texas state insignia inside. It’s both a nod to Spieth’s hometown of Dallas and his collegiate career in the Lone Star State at the University of Texas.

The shoes are available to the general public on March 3. For now, keep your eyes peeled on Tour, where Spieth will be sporting his newest kicks beginning next week at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
