Texas Recruiting Notes 2021

Any word on why Foster isn’t making it when everyone of his Houston friends will be there?

Seems like mom will do everything in her power to keep him from going to Texas.  She posts on Texags.  Have any of you met texags posters in real life? they are exactly how you would imagine.  It’s a bit sad that Texas offers the best education, an OL that is going to be one of the best in the conference and 1-2 years away from one of the best in the country, and an opportunity to participate in a national championship winning shot-put program.  Any sensible parent would love for their kid to have all those opportunities on top of playing with all your childhood friends and being close to home.  Instead she’s pushing him to Oregon if not Texas just because of her aggy family and texags.

I hope that in the real world of recruiting, getting a quality education and playing for a top 10 football team, a red ass aggy mama will take a back seat.

The phrase real word and aggy aren't usually used in the same sentence...

Figure I'd post this here.  Recruits predictions.

https://n.rivals.com/news/texas-louisiana-prospects-predict-lsu-vs-longhorns

These prediction questions are a really good way to get honest answers from recruits about what they think of the programs. There was more honesty in these answers than most reporters get the whole cycle by asking straightforward questions.

Josh White seems all LSU based on his talk  about the new offense for LSU, but a win by Texas might wake him up some, especially if our defense plays well.

Gotta like both Sanders and Jackson picking Texas.

The reports about Blackshire being SEC SEC SEC seem correct. Brennon Scott might be a little salty about having a non-committable offer from us.

And McCutchin still sounds salty offering to late.

IT

2021
QB Jalen Milroe, Tompkins (Katy, TX) (TEXAS): The class leader and four-star signal-caller inadvertently started a movement that spanned two classes. That's called stroke. He's also really good at throwing the football, leading his team, and his ranking will likely rise over the next half year. Milroe being around this many recruits will be big.

RB LJ Johnson, Cy-Fair (Cypress, TX): A great fit at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, Johnson has double-digit offers picked up UT's invitation after a strong showing at the SFA satellite camp. Texas is in a good spot for him and might even lead. Johnson says he wants to take his time but a commitment wouldn't catch us off guard.

RB Camar Wheaton, Lakeview Centennial (Garland, TX): The most explosive tailback in the state with elite speed and acceleration. Texas jumped out to a nice lead thanks to SMU's wide receiver coach, but the potential five-star has slowed the process down. UT still looks good here but not as good as it did previously.

WR Quay Davis, Skyline (Dallas, TX) (TEXAS): The beginning of the Class of 2021, Davis has untapped potential and produces big in the biggest games. He's a Z in Austin.

WR JoJo Earle, Aledo (Aledo, TX): Why aren't more schools recruiting Earle? Maybe they think he's too small or they think he's going to Texas. If they'd just turn on the tape, it has to be the latter. He's one to watch this weekend.

WR Teddy Knox, The Woodlands (The Woodlands, TX): Explosive and electric, Theodore is a pure athlete. At 5-foot-10, 170, he runs a 4.42 (40) and a 36" vertical. Alabama, Mississippi State, Texas and others have already offered. We'll see how Texas navigates the position. Is Knox a slot or a Z? They already have a Z and look good for the H.

WR Latrell Neville, Fort Bend Hightower (Missouri City, TX): He has all the tools. Now it's time to use them. UT loves his potential and is in prime pouncing position. If they do pounce he'd likely do the same.

TE Juan Davis, Everman (Everman, TX) (TEXAS): The big athlete made his Texas pledge early thanks to an early identification and push by the staff. The 6-foot-3 likely tight end is a big get for Derek Warehime and the staff. He'll show off his overall ability playing quarterback this season.

TE Lake McRee, Lake Travis (Austin, TX) (TEXAS): The big, local get is out for the season with a knee surgery. That won't keep him out of DKR on Saturdays.

TE Var’Keyes Gumms, Spring Dekaney (Houston, TX): The New Orleans transplant and Dekaney three-star tight end would make more a physical blocking and receiving YTE, but the staff already has two promising Y's committed. He's also an LSU fan.

OL James Brockermeyer, All Saints Episcopal (Fort Worth, TX): The center of Team Brockermeyer, James looks to have a great junior season while Tommy rehabs his shoulder. Both have three semesters remaining in high school, which means they'll enroll early in college. The story rarely changes with this family; Texas is really in it, and they'll let everyone know their future destination when the time is right. Double official visits is just too cool to ignore, tbh.

OL Tommy Brockermeyer, All Saints Episcopal (Fort Worth, TX): No. 1 in Texas. Next question.

OL Hayden Conner, Taylor (Katy, TX) (TEXAS): If you can talk Alfred Collins into wearing a NASA shirt, your recruiting skills are duly noted. Great player, great kid, great prospect. Probably knows where Bryce Foster is this weekend too.

OL Reuben Fatheree, Foster (Richmond, TX): Latest we hear is that he won't likely make it in.

OL Donovan Jackson, Episcopal (Bellaire, TX): One of the best football players in the country, this top Texas target won OL MVP at The Opening...as a junior. Beware of the Trees.

DT Maason Smith, Terrebonne (Houma, LA): He might be pulling for the Tigers. Seriously.

DE Tunmise Adeleye, Tompkins (Katy, TX): "Kicking and screaming" was the way Eric described Tunmise's recruitment to Austin. Nailed it.

DE Landon Jackson, Pleasant Grove (Texarkana, TX): The five-star from ETX has UT as one of his favorite schools - Top 2 with A&M - and is eager to return to Austin. Since Todd Orlando became more involved in this recruitment, UT has surged back to the slightest of leads over the Aggies. But there is still a long way to go and getting him back in Austin for a game of this magnitude could go a long way towards winning out. Teammate Marcus Burris is a maybe, and an A&M lean.

ATH Ja’Tavion Sanders, Ryan (Denton, TX): He blew up last spring and Texas promptly jumped into the mix. When teammate Billy Bowman Jr committed recently, this went from looking good to looking really, really good.

DE Shemar Turner, DeSoto (DeSoto, TX): Talented with size, but not in the top tier of defensive linemen in-state. That could change with a strong junior campaign.

LB Derrick Harris Jr., New Caney (New Caney, TX) (TEXAS): This was a done deal when Texas offered. B-backer or Rover, he's a total culture and physical fit in Austin.

LB Clayton Smith, Texas High (Texarkana, TX): Texas evaluated him early and that could pay off in the long run. LSU and Arkansas have pulled close to Texas, and Clayton wants to see who is better; UT or LSU on Saturday. With spots in the class going fast, this outcome could have an effect on Smith.

CB Billy Bowman, Ryan (Denton, TX): If you could have a two-way player in college, Bowman is probably your choice. The body control, hands, quickness, burst...it's all good. The likely nickel take in 2021, Bowman is a coach's son and adds dynamite to your program.

S JD Coffey III, Kennedale (Kennedale, TX): The love child of Xavian Alford and Baron Browning, the four-star is a fan of the Longhorns and I can't see the competition here. Coach Craig Naivar has pushed all the right buttons. I think we'll see Coffey at DKR a lot over the next two seasons. And beyond.

ATH Nick Martin, Pleasant Grove: At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, the two-way stud could play running back or defensive back at the next level.

I like Clayton Smith's response the best. I also wouldn't spend 10 minutes more recruiting Latrell McCutchin.

A. Love child of Xavian Alford and Baron Browning certainly sounds like an intriguing prospect

B. Can somebody fill me in on what parts of Baron Browning's game/physical profile align with Coffey? Is he not necessarily a safety?

Has the smarts/football IQ of Alford with the physical/athletic traits of Browning.

Which seems important because Browning was a 5 star, but has played in 21 games in his 2+ years at osu, picking up 41 total tackles, 6 for loss, and a sack.

If 247 is to be believed, Coffey is 50 lbs lighter than Browning was as a prospect (couldn't tell you what he weighed at beginning of his junior season).
