So did this guy already give up on the conceit that he was a long-time lurker/first-time poster and acknowledging that he's actually Winslow? Or does this guy just also claim to have a dialed in cousin on the team 🤔

Gave up on the conceit, but also hasn't obviously shitposted yet this round so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I disagree. I think Hand has done a good job. I think our offensive system sucked last year. But if you look at the talent, the technique, the cohesiveness, all of it is much better under Hand than any previous OL coaches for the last forever. Cosmi going in 1st round and DK getting drafted will silence the critics. and if Yurcich is as good as I think he is, Hand's coaching will really show well.

For the Brocks, I still dont get it. Blake KNOWS Hand is a good coach and that his boys would develop properly under him, regardless of the offensive system, and that Tommy will be a first round pick under Hand and James will be coached up as much as possible. Hand teaches all the right things and is good at it. Again, Blake knows this. I still dont understand why they wouldnt jump into this class as soon as possible and lead it to the #1 class in the nation. It seems like you could control your own destiny at that point. But to do what they are doing is just puzzling (assuming they go to Texas).

Ok, now we are debating the REAL issue. It's Herman. He hasn't proven he can win consistently at the P5 level or get kids into the NFL.  Saban vs. Herman? Who does Surly have?

If two time legacy's say no...whats the issue? Think about it.

The Brockermeyer's bleed Burnt Orange.

It's a business decision.

Blake knows all of this will happen at Alabama. He certainly doesn't know it will happen at Texas, because he doesn't even know if Herman/Hand will be around for much longer. If Brockermeyer was a RB it wouldn't be much of an issue, but O-linemen need long-term stability.

Bingo.

Hand has done a good job.  Our offensive game plan sucked. That’s on Tim.  Amazing how good they looked against Utah.  The line was solid and effective.  Where we lost games was the ability to correct the game plan on the fly.  Mike will fix that.

Huge improvement, but offensive scheme and production is THE ISSUE. Thats one of the main reasons we hired Herman. It's on him. Make no mistake, Tim was a figurehead. That's why Herman cleaned house.

Agree. For now. So much rides on this season (Please God, let us have it). Just saw @hornfromdallas' post. He's probably right.

Again, they bleed Burnt Orange. If we kick ass they can be flipped, however, odds drop considerably.

Hook'em and fuck everybody else.

Obviously they bleed burnt orange, which is why they’re going to Bama but will be like super sad about it. Maybe after Tommy is an all American at Bama  we can retire his jersey. I mean From what I hear he bleeds burnt orange.

2020’s been weird as fuck already. If the next development is that Carl becomes a super accurate inside source, then I say we just roll with it.  At least until satya starts becoming all positive and declaring Texas is back! Then I’m out and I’ll probably go find a bunker to spend the rest of my life in.

Are we 100% positive CTJ isn’t Carl? He’s a serial sock creator, and it’s awfully curious  that CTJ goes silent and then Carl pops up with a ton of inside info.

Blake: "Tom - I have wonderful news! Tommy and James would like to announce their commitment to Texas!"

Herman:  "Blake, do you know the true meaning of the word "commitment"?"

Lack of trust, Herman's unauthentic authentic personality, Luke's feedback, constructive criticism of James...who knows.

Look, that midget fuck would be 0-2 against Mack and 0-7 against Texas if Colt McCoy didn’t get hurt.  That stupid bastard nearly lost to Gilbert.  He’s a great coach.  He gets gifted one automatic win a year with the College Station fucktards.  Fuck Saban he’s like 5’3”.  Little pissant.  Yes, I have been imbibing, a smidge.

Finally watched Myslinki. First of all, he's really good in the run game (needs work in pass pro, but has the athleticism for it). He plays hard and nasty, although he has a bad habit of holding unnecessarily. How good is his competition? How big is he, and will he keep his pretty good athleticism when he's at his playing weight? As others have pointed out, how maxed out is he considering his dad played in the NFL for nine years? It's funny, we never hear about those concerns with the Brockermeyers

I prefer Ezra, but I'm not sure if there's a huge delta between the two, and if Hand prefers one, then I'll defer to the guy who knows this shit a lot better than I do

I'd be very interested to hear more about the role Luke Brockermeyer has played in his brothers' recruitment. Not saying it went down like this, but no program in the country can afford to have malcontent walk-ons hurting them with key recruits. We've certainly got enough challenges as it is. If a walk-on isn't 100% all in, there's absolutely no reason to keep him around the program.

Yeah he got a high school DC role, that kind of thing happens all the time. Wonder if Miles is giving Tekyl some kind of position upgrade.

That job sucks, actually. Weird job to take. There have been some DCs that graduated to legit head jobs out of there, but that was 15-20 years ago.

Is someone like Jordyn Fields ready for an internal promotion like that, or do you think are they going to look around?

Unfortunately I'm probably not the person to ask. For context, I worked in gameday ops for Athletics for four years but I didn't work immediately alongside the football staff too often. But Tory always had her shit together during football games when we were working together, so I have a lot of respect for her.

I would imagine they would promote internally and Fields seems like a prime candidate but I can't say I ever worked with her myself.

I must have missed the 2021 draft happening. Declaring Cosmi's 1st-round status as a fait accompli is silly. Until we see how Cosmi and the line adjust to our new offensive coordinator, Herman hasn't turned anyone into a 1st round pick based solely on a few way-too-early mock drafts.

(Chip Brown) The Insider: Black, other newcomers making impression

Quote

BLACK, OTHER NEWCOMERS MAKING SOLID IMPRESSION

With Texas’ incoming freshmen and Michigan transfer receiver Tarik Black now having been through some voluntary workouts after arriving on campus last month, I checked in with some team sources to grab some early impressions. Two team sources said they are very impressed with Black. “He’s been all about business,” one team source told Horns247. “He came to campus in shape. He’s got size, speed and can bend. If he picks up the offense quickly, he’s got a chance to win a starting job.”

Another team source said Black “is approaching everything with the urgency you’d expect of a graduate transfer.” As far as the freshmen who arrived on campus last month, the names drawing the most praise for showing up in shape and shining in voluntary workouts … surprise, surprise … running back Bijan Robinson, defensive end Alfred Collins, outside linebacker Jaylan Ford, cornerback Jahdae Barron, cornerback Kitan Crawford, Jaden Hullaby and Kelvontay Dixon.

***

BREAKING DOWN THE TEXAS DEFENSIVE LINE

In addition to being a member of the 2005 Texas national championship team and still holding the school record for most tackles for loss in a game (seven), Tim Crowder has turned his Nuclear Athletes (nuclearathletes.com) training into a go-to for top football talent. Crowder, who turned 35 on Tuesday, was the personal, off-season trainer for Pro Bowler Derrick Johnson, the Kansas City Chiefs’ all-time leading tackler, and then built a client list that included Fozzy Whittaker, Tarell Brown, Chris Houston, Michael Griffin, Quandre Diggs, Adrian Phillips and Jackson Jeffcoat.

Most recently, Crowder’s clients include Chiefs’ Super Bowl champion Alex Okafor, Houston Texans’ rising star Charles Omenihu, current Texas star outside linebacker Joseph Ossai and five-star, incoming freshmen defensive end Alfred Collins of Bastrop (Cedar Creek). So who better to size up the defensive (and offensive) front of the Longhorns than Crowder, who is a must-follow on Twitter @NuclearAthletes.

LET’S START WITH CROWDER’S THOUGHTS ON ALFRED COLLINS:

“Alfred is scary. His potential is off the chart. The only thing that worries me with Alfred has nothing to do with Alfred. It’s how Alfred will be used. I would hate for Alfred if they say, ‘We’re going to put you inside as a three-technique or as a nose guard where you’re always double-teamed. He’s not your average defensive end. He’s like a Julius Peppers or a Bruce Smith or a Reggie White type who could blossom up to 290 or 295 and still be a special defensive end.

"He’s rare, because he can be that size and still run a full set. I mean he’s another one who has extraterrestrial arm-length of 35- or 36 inches. He’s even quicker than Charles (Omenihu), and I’m pretty sure he’ll be stronger than Charles after a couple years. He’s a freak of nature. He played basketball. He’s very fluid. He’s got that big-man, little-man syndrome. He’s a big man who moves like a little man. But what I like about him most is he’s so humble. He comes from a great family. He comes from a country background, which is another thing he and I have in common. I love him to death. I just hope we get to see him this season, so everyone gets to see what I’m talking about.”

ON MARQEZ BIMAGE MOVING FROM 4-I DEFENSIVE END TO A 5-TECHNIQUE LINED UP ON THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER OF THE OFFENSIVE TACKLE:

“The thing about Bimage - and I tell him this all the time - ‘Don’t get too big.’ He would always say, ‘Oh, you know, I gotta play the 4-i, so I gotta get up to this certain amount of weight.’ And I’m just like, ‘Dude, it’s just not you man. You just don’t have the body type.’ When I watched his high school film out of Brenham, he had some of the best ball getoff I’ve ever seen.

"So, when I started seeing him getting bigger, I said, ‘You’re getting big too fast. It’s going to affect your speed.’ He was trying to drop some weight with the new defense coming in. He’s a natural rush end. He understands rush angles. He’s a sleeper. He could mess around and get you eight to 10 sacks this year. He might lead the team in sacks. That’s the exciting thing about this season: You’ve got some guys who are going to be in new roles who could surprise everyone.”

ON SENIOR TA'QUON GRAHAM, WHO IS MOVING FROM 4-I DEFENSIVE END TO THREE-TECHNIQUE DEFENSIVE TACKLE:

“The first thing I told TQ is, ‘You’ve got to transform your mentality.’ I said, ‘It’s was no more read and react like when you were in the 4-i. Now, you’ve got to react on the move. Read as you get to the guy.’ I’ve been in that situation before, moving from the 4-i to the three-technique, and TQ’s probably going to need a little grace period while he realizes, ‘Oh, crap. I don’t have to worry about taking up two guys. I can get up the field and attack.’

"So, he’s going to need a lot of reps in training camp to break his read mentality and get used to cutting it loose, because it’s muscle memory. Initially, he might be a little hesitant, because he’s been doing it one way for so long. His offensive linemen and even going against some of his own D-linemen in practice, they need to give him certain blocks to where he’s just attacking that outside shoulder of the guard and just getting the feeling of penetrating. TQ is very strong and has the tools. He just needs to get more and more reps in right now. This is the best time to do it in the summer, so he’ll be ready to go in the fall.”

ON JOSEPH OSSAI, WHO IS MOVING TO A STAND-UP DEFENSIVE END IN CHRIS ASH’S DEFENSE (KNOWN AS THE JACK OUTSIDE LINEBACKER):

“Joe is just a freak. He’s just so aggressive. Even when I would work him out and we’d be working on his hand punch, I’d have to tell him, ‘Look, Joe, I don’t have no pads on, so don’t go and haul off and hit me in the face, cause we might start boxing out here.’ But he’s aggressive - very, very violent with his hands. His biggest thing is honing that skill. You can be active with your hands on a pass rush and end up boxing like a kangaroo and going nowhere if you don’t know what you’re doing.

"If Joe keeps getting better with his hands, watch out. It’ll be like when I played with Champ Bailey in Denver. We’d watch tape, the coach would say, ‘OK, Champ, you got this receiver. Now you can go back to sleep.’ Joseph is like that, too. Coaches can just tell him to cut loose and go get the quarterback, and he’ll be violent, disruptive and make plays - just like he did in the Alamo Bowl (against Utah when Ossai had six tackles for loss, including three sacks)."

ON THIRD-YEAR NOSE TACKLE KEONDRE COBURN:

“During the spring, he was getting his weight down. (Texas strength coach) Yancy (McKnight) probably should give me some credit, too, because, behind the scenes, I’d be getting on these guys like Keondre to get their weight down. I told him, ‘You need to be able to play every down. You don’t need to be no first- and second-down specialist and then come off the field on third down because you’re tired.’

"I told him Casey Hampton led Texas in tackles (in 1999 and 2000) from the nose guard position, which means he was running people down on first and second down and then rushing the quarterback on third down. I said to do that, he (Coburn) needed to get his weight down to like 315 or 320. At that weight, he’ll be able to run and play every down and not get dog tired and have to come off the field.”

SPEAKING OF CASEY HAMPTON … CROWDER HAD A QUICK, FUNNY STORY ABOUT TALKING TO HAMPTON BEFORE HAMPTON’S STEELERS WERE SET TO PLAY IN THE SUPER BOWL AGAINST THE ARIZONA CARDINALS, WHO WOULD HAVE CROWDER’S FORMER TEXAS TEAMMATE - LYLE SENDLEIN - AT CENTER:

“I don’t want to start nothin’ with Lyle Sendlein. But Casey and I met up in Houston at a bar before the Super Bowl, and he said, ‘Hey, man, tell me about this guy (Sendlein), because we’re about to face him in the Super Bowl.’ I said, ‘You can probably bull rush him, because that’s what you do best, and that’d probably be trouble for him.’ And he was like, ‘That’s all I need to know.’ And, man, when I watched that Super Bowl, all I saw was Casey bull-rushing Lyle and putting him on roller-skates. I mean Casey was so low to the ground and so powerful and knew how to use his hands. It was something to see. Lyle was doing the best he could, but he was a rookie in that Super Bowl going up against one of the best to ever play nose tackle.”

Crowder said Hampton also told him during that bar conversation that Horns247 contributor Dan Neil, an All-American offensive lineman at Texas who won two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos and is now on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for 2021, was the only guy who ever gave him trouble in practice. Congrats to Dan Neil for being on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot!!

ON TRAINING FORMER LONGHORNS’ DEFENSIVE LINEMAN ALEX OKAFOR, WHO HAD FIVE SACKS FOR THE SUPER BOWL CHAMPION CHIEFS LAST SEASON:

“I watched some of his film with the Chiefs last year, and I was like, ‘Wow, this guy could’ve had 15 sacks. He had five, and I think I counted like six or eight that he missed. He was beating guys clean, but once he got past his man, he didn’t have the ankle and hip strength to bend and get right to the quarterback. So, we’ve worked on his ankle and hip mobility.”

I TALKED TO ALEX OKAFOR AND ASKED HIM WHY HE LIKES TRAINING WITH CROWDER?

"T.C.’s played in the NFL and worked with really good coaches like Rod Marinelli and just cuts right to it. He knows what too look for, doesn’t sugar coat anything. No B.S. with T.C. Tells you what you need to hear - not what you want to hear."

ON TRAINING TEXAS' FORMER BIG 12 DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE YEAR CHARLES OMENIHU, NOW WITH THE HOUSTON TEXANS:

"Charles is now a guy who the Texans are looking to put more on his plate. And when he was at Texas, I remember telling him, ‘Be who you are.’ He was trying to be a speed rusher, and I said, ‘You’re not one of those Von Miller guys, so just stop trying to be like that.’ I said, ‘You’re a guy with long arms who is heavy, so you gotta embrace that.’ The thing that makes him extraterrestrial are his long arms. He’s got 36-inch arms. That’s like unheard of. There’s not too many guys walking around with 36-inch arms. That’s just alien-like. So, we really worked on his long-arm rush, his long-arm stab and his long-arm swipe. He moves well to be that big, but his success is going to come from using his strength and length against the guys across from him."

ON SOPHOMORE T'VONDRE SWEAT ROTATING WITH KEONDRE COBURN AT NOSE TACKLE AND THIRD-YEAR SOPHOMORE MORO OJOMO AT DEFENSIVE END AND THE THREE-TECHNIQUE DEFENSIVE TACKLE PROVIDING DEPTH:

Herman expects Sweat to be more of a factor than he was as a true freshman when he played in 13 games. “Right now, they have depth on the defensive line, and you need that. If you can have four defensive ends and five or six defensive tackles to where there’s no real drop-off, that’s how you win the Big 12, where you’re going to be up against some up-tempo, spread offenses.”

ON HOW HE SEES TEXAS IN THE BIG 12 RACE THIS SEASON:

“Well, if we take the pandemic and racism and all of that stuff out of the equation, as far as talent, they should beat everybody. They’re going to have work hard and stay hungry and humble and come together. But as far as talent, Texas should win the Big 12 this season.” For more from Crowder, including some behind-the-scenes gems about the 2005 national title team and season, check out this week’s episode of The Flagship Podcast (and all the previous episodes — now available on video on the 247Sports YouTube channel).

You’re really reaching here. It’s the same offense and the same  OL coach. There will hardly be any adjustments, other than actually having competent play calling and game plans.

I'm hoping he meant that more in the sense of his size at DE - than talent-wise.  I was talking more about his direct comparisons to Charles - Collins being quicker and eventually stronger.

A little early to be calling our 18yr old recruit Bruce Smith or Reggie White.

To be fair, Connor Williams was assumed to be a first-round LT in pretty much every mock draft before the season started. I hate defending Satya, but I had the same thought about presuming Cosmi to be a first-round pick before he's played a snap of his Jr season. I should expect it though because counting chickens before they hatch is just a thing that our fanbase does.

I think this is an understatement. I think the scheme will be a lot different. I think it will be more multiple, focused on vertically attacking the defense.

Do you think Y's scheme is the same as Herman's? Or do you think Herman will force Yurcich to use Herman's offense?

If we seriously brought Yurcich in just to run the same offense, Herman will have been wasting everyone's time.

Yurcich can and should be given leeway to run his own offensive scheme. Otherwise he'll be about as useful as Tim Beck was last year,
