Texas Golf: Championship Week

Should be interesting as teams are strong and lots of Big 12 teams look strong today.

Greta single handedly kept our Girls out of the top 8 last week, shitting the bed is an understatement.

Drew Jones is doing his best Greta imitation for the boys so far.

Day 1 scores:

Scheffler 67

Ghim 71

Chervony 74

Soosman 76

Jones 81, 81 is pathetic golf at this level.

Scheffler started his day on 10 today with a triple bogey 7. Team is T20th right now, most of team is on inward 9 with only Ghim making the turn.

Ghim closed with a 30 on the back 9 to shoot a 69, T7th at the moment in the individual.

Scottie closed with 2 birds for a 74 after a tough start, T10th with the afternoon flight out on the course.

Team is currently T14th with half the field still on the course. Does not look good right now.

Feels like if we advance we are much more dangerous in match play than stroke play.

For starters, Ghim and Scheffler are capable of getting us 2 wins in every round of match play. Also, match play favors us in the sense we wouldn't have to rely on our other 3 golfers. We would just need one of those 3 to have a decent round. Under the assumption Ghim and Scheffler keep rolling.

I think match play gives us a much better chance of winning than stroke play. Probably stating the obvious here.

Bama just dropped behind us. Aggy seems to be finishing weak. Huge finish by our two studs. This team has a high ceiling, I doubt other coaches want our matchup tomorrow.

Yeah, we're probably the weakest team remaining in terms of stroke play outside of Duke. With Scheffler and Ghim we're really dangerous in match play.

I don't follow golf close enough but I think Soosman is pretty good for our 3rd golfer.

Our biggest issue has been Jones.

It's pretty crazy to think that in 2012, when Spieth and company beat Justin Thomas and company for the national title, the matches weren't televised on the Golf Channel.  We had to stream it from NCAA.com.

And oh yeah, Thomas Pieters from U of Illinois won the individual NCAA tourney that year.  Patrick Cantlay finished tied for fourth.

Thomas is world #1, Spieth is world #5 (former #1), Cantlay is world #36, Dylan Frittelli is world #58, and Pieters is world #67.  not too shabby.
