Cayman Islands

Going to Grand Cayman this June so I'll definitely look over this thread for advice on restaurants. What's the best side to stay on if the wife and kids want to swim in the ocean? I know Seven Mile Beach has got more development and options but Rum Point looks really nice. I know the beach options are more limited but how's the water? How far out can you go and not need water shoes due to the reef and rocks? I know we're going to spend some time on the Rum Point side since we'll want to see Starfish Point and do the bioluminescent kayaking in the evening. We're going to spend at least 5 full days so I'm hesitant to be on that side of the island the whole time. Planning to rent a car since the rates seem pretty decent.

We're most likely doing a condo since we can get separate bedrooms for us and them and make our money go a little farther. Some decent options in the middle to upper part of SMB. Any good options to investigate for excursions? I know we'll want to head to the stingray snorkeling spot. I'm hoping the kids will take to snorkeling so we can do more of it.
