USGA released tee times/pairings for the first 2 rounds

http://www.usopen.com/tee-times.html

Feature groups (Thursday tee-time)
8:02 (10) Rory, Jordan, Phil
1:14 (1) Sergio, Rahm Cabrera Bello (all Spaniard pairing)
1:36 (10) Ernie, Stricker, Furyk (old dude pairing)
1:47 (1) JT, DJ, Tiger

And I'm now taking suggestions for what to include in the Surly guessing contest

Course looks immaculate on the Golf Channel’s Live from the U.S. Open.
And Phil is already bitching about whether the course will be fair.

Given the history of what happened at the par-3 7th hole, Phil has a valid argument. I think the USGA won’t let that happen again but let’s see how it plays out. I was at the 1995 Open at Shinnecock. We went every day but Sunday.

Surly pick'em

1. - Winner & score
2. - Best finish by player with no majors; best finish by a player with 1 or more majors
3. - Best finish by an amateur; best finish by a Euro (must be included on the Race to Dubai list - see link below)
4. - 4 players that you need to pick their finish - MC, Top 40, Top 20, Top 10, Winner - Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, DJ
5. - Cut line

I was reading something today and learned about what happened to Phil on 18 last time. He never mentioned it but he had a big rock right behind his ball in the bunker. Fred Funk was in his group and said it was obvious from the sound that he hit the equivalent of a knuckleball and took a 6 or 7 to lose. All Phil said about it was he shouldn't have hit in the bunker.

The overhead camera shot of Pavin on 18 was just amazing. A few oddities from 1995 - Pavin only won one more PGA tournament after. I would have put him down for at least 5-10 more. Also he won with one a sets of irons - Cleveland VAS- that would not win any design contests but obviously worked for Pavin.

Maybe not an issue this week. Local rule will allow to remove the rock:

@usopengolf:

A Local Rule at Shinnecock Hills is being used during the 118th #USOpen, allowing small stones in bunkers to be played as movable obstructions.

Interesting topic on Golf Channel last night on the 7th in 2004. The previous USGA official (before Davis) was still defending the crap they rolled out. There was also one USGA offical who claimed without any supporting evidence that a "rogue" greenskeeper had rolled the green late the night before. They also claimed it was watered between groups and Phil has said it was only watered if the group had a double bogey or worse. Also they pointed out that several players had putted of the green on saturday

Don't see it mentioned yet, but Spieth, McIlroy, and Mickelson are featured group on the US Open watch live app. Great coverage.

Watching it now online at:

www.usopen.com/watch/live.html

Also i was just browsing the pgatourlive app and there is a great interview with Peter Jacobson for man of the year award in the tent at the Open.

Really funny and touching, watch it when you have 30 minutes to kill.
