Bands that you never get sick of

Bob Dylan, the dead, the stones, the doors, the Beatles, The Who, The talking heads, Pink Floyd, Buffalo Springfield, CCR, Amy winehouse, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Billie Hoilliday, Ray Charles, Vivaldi, Charlie Parker, Steely Dan, Buddy Holly. That's probably  15-16 of probably 25 or so I could always enjoy and never tire of.

The Beatles

The Rolling Stones

Led Zeppelin

Pink Floyd

Willie Nelson & The Family Band

Van Halen (early, sorry Sammy)

Nirvana

Wilco

Buck Owens & The Buckaroos

Those pretty much always make me happy.  I never get tired of them.

Not my favorites necessarily, but I will always stop channel surfing (yeah, FM radio guy) when these artists come on:

Supertramp

Gerry Rafferty

Joe Walsh

Heart

Kansas (not everything)

Steve Miller Band

Van Halen

I am truly a child of the 70's.  Those recordings kick so much ass.  Very high level of musicianship along with a fat analog sound.  Can't beat it.

Neil Young

The Stones

Grateful Dead

Dylan

Floyd

Zeppelin

Herbie Hancock

Neko Case

Ryan Adams

Leon Russell

Groups / singers that have big discographies (including bootlegs) that span decades tend to fit the criteria because they've usally dabbled in all kinds of sounds and styles over different eras. In other words, there is diverse material to fit any mood or occasion. Interestingly, many artists I love the most don't really fit. Son Volt, Willie, the Black Crowes, and Alice in Chains are three examples of top 20 artists for me that definitely can bring on fatigue and don't really "binge" well IMO.

Figure I need to go back like 15-20 years to prove staying power so I'll say:

  • Johnny Cash
  • R.E.M. (80's stuff)
  • New Order/Joy Division
  • Bowie
  • Smiths
  • Stone Roses
  • Willie Nelson
  • Robert Earl Keen
  • Old 97's
  • Uncle Tupelo/Wilco
