I really hope Bernie wins the nomination. If that happens, I'm going to be so excited once we inject you guys with the virus and you guys become Bernie Bros because it's fucking awesome to look at the world and have a seed of hope blossoming in your soul that we can work together to build a beautiful future.

ugh, you still don’t get it.

Well reasoned statement from someone opposed to Michael Bloomberg becoming the Democratic Presidential Nominee. If you haven't already watched - take 4:06 minutes and watch. It was posted earlier but you might have missed it. An interesting perspective on the targeting element of stop and frisk.

Targeting groups and individuals for punitive treatment when he was mayor of the most powerful city and police force in the world makes him absolutely unelectable.

We talk about the abuses of Trump. How can we elect someone who held office and did the same things Trump does to people and groups who are the most vulnerable to abuses of power?  Someone who a bigot but cradled with extreme privilege, power, and wealth  Someone just as harmful as Trump.

His "little slip-ups" hurt a lot of humans. The ripple effects continue to this day. The People of the United States need hope, not more of the same. Please be proud of who you vote for.

Trump isn't going quietly no matter what.

I'm beginning to think that all of this hand-wringing over which Democrat should win the nomination is wasted time, because it's not going to be a straight election.  They'll suppress as many voters as they can.  And he'll have help from Russia again.  If the early election night results aren't going his way, there will be problems counting votes.  A recount will definitely be needed.  Hell, Florida's got a Republican governor if they need to play that card again.

Trump will try to con enough people, with help from Russia, again, and if that doesn't work, he'll just steal the damned thing.  Who's going to stop him?

it is not going to be a straight election.  now that Republicans know for certain that they can get away with anything they want with no consequences, the suppression, the foreign interference (encouraged by and coordinated with R's), the vote fixing,  and more - are all going to be much, much worse this time around.  after everything we have seen over the past several years, do people actually believe that Republicans are going to allow Trump to be voted out of office?

Pete seems to be in trouble even though he has performed well so far. I guess the days of the Iowa and NH boost are gone especially since the rest of the country has already made decisions about you with the 25 debates.  We don’t need a farmer or teacher in Iowa to tell us who to nominate.

That and he has no minority support.

Wide difference between this and the data for progress poll.

Yeah, that is a huge outlier though with all the national polling that indicates Bernie is clear and away strongest with Latinos and the other Data for Progress poll in Nevada. Biden is barely campaigning (if at all?) in Nevada and I'd be shocked if he even came in second.

My guess is Bernie gets at least 40% of the Latino vote.

KLOBU-SURGE.  Her and Pete cannot co-exist in the same lane, so big if she is able to pass him up.

If 2 polls have a wide difference, take the two and average it out.

The downside to being everybody's second choice is being nobody's first choice. It sucks because she's awesome.

I think this is the largest explanation for her collapse and she really hasn't run a very good campaign recently, but the relative media blackout she's received over the past month is a big factor too. Despite a pretty strong showing in Iowa her speech wasn't even televised and none of the headlines even mentioned her. Given how large a percentage of Klobuchar's votes in New Hampshire were very late deciders, it's hard not to think that Warren getting completely ignored by the post-Iowa coverage played a huge role. For as much as the Bernie fans grumbled about the lack of an Iowa bump they should have received without Pete's interference, the post-Iowa coverage played out perfectly for Bernie, while it played out about as badly as it could have for Warren. For better and worse, her campaign relied on support from many in the professional class and that support was easily swayed by fear of losing momentum.

I would expand this thought to say that we don't need ANYBODY to tell us who to nominate. Having said that, I think a farmer in Iowa or a teacher in Iowa are just as likely, if not more so,  to make a good choice as the average voter.

His team is very bullish he will finish 2nd in Nevada.

They also thought he would be way more viable in the caucus precincts of Iowa than he was, so......

Either he's very confident or his team is fucking him over.

Iowa farmers can eat their own harvested corn out of my shit.  Because they are going to vote for Bail Out Trump again.

I mean I haven't seen really anything about him in Nevada though, I'm sure he's been there at least once since NH but running to South Carolina really makes me think he's just given up. Steyer is the one spending like crazy on advertising apparently and most people on the ground there think he's going to do well.

Sanders' sisters are more powerful than any brother, in my experience. Some of them welcome the "bro" moniker as an easy way to tell someone they are mistaken about the makeup of Sanders' supporters. They are fierce, smart and more effective as a whole - and not afraid to take on all comers. See below:

Beth reminds me of my 14 year old daughter and her fierce admiration for the movement. It didn't come from me. She and her friends are all proud Bernie supporters.

That is, of course, nonsense.  There have been plenty of Bernie Bro shit that has been repulsive.  Failing to recognize it is akin to condoning it.  I don't think all Bernie supporters should be characterized by the worst of the Bernie Bros, and I don't think Bernie himself should be held responsible for them.  But trying to excuse some that shit because you don't like the media is Trump 101, and should not be accepted.   Shitty is shitty, regardless of what you think the media is doing.

There is no evidence that Bernie's supporters are any worse on the whole than the supporters of the other candidates.  Until such evidence is presented, there is no reason why he, and only he, should be called out repeatedly by these fucking idiot pundits to apologize for the behavior of his supporters.  Indeed, the only research on this topic that has been published indicated that the idea that Bernie's supporters are particularly problematic is a lie.

Once again, the absolute moronic focus on Sander's supporters, rather than Sanders.  This all goes back to how fucking stupid we are in focusing on people and ideas that don't really matter.  Why should I care how catty Sander's supporters are in real life or on twitter?

Most older more moderate voters don't give a good goddamn about how mean or aggressive or hipster Sander's supporters are.  They either like his approach because he attacks the critical domestic issue head on, or they think he's too radical and would hurt down ticket candidates.

I think the whole issue of whether Sander's supporters need to go to charm school is flying right by them, because they don't hang out on social media.

You should care because the media and the democratic party establishment wants you to care because they don't want Sanders to win and this is the best thing they can come up with to smear him.  That's all there is to it.  It has nothing to do with what's important to voters or even with what's actually true.

Msnbc had a temper tantrum this morning. One dude told a fellow commentator, who happens to be black, "Mike apologized!!1! for stop and frisk." another guy said Bernie would lose 40 states to Donald. Lulz the Bern has the establishment shook.

I don't see how it could be anyone but Bernie at this point. I wanted Liz bad, she's who we need. I was planning on voting for her in the primary and the eventual nominee in the general, but now I'll likely vote for Bernie in the primary.

There's a massive disconnect somewhere and I can't figure it out. Bern energizes the base, polls well nationally, and the only thing that can be used against him is ahhh SoCiaLisM1?!! Bloomberg is a good option for moderates to rally behind, but I can't imagine what shit they can use against him in the general. I'm guessing stop and frisk is nothing compared to whatever else they can dig up. From what I see, Bernie is the far better candidate and much more likely to beat Donald.....so what's going on? Why are Donald fans praying to face Bernie? If he's polling well nationally why are pundits claiming he'll lose 49 states?

It's an issue, because people perceive it as an issue.  Older more moderate voters read the NYT , which included the following less than a month ago:

Quote

Some progressive activists who declined to back Mr. Sanders have begun traveling with private security after incurring online harassment. Several well-known feminist writers said they had received death threats. A state party chairwoman changed her phone number. A Portland lawyer saw her business rating tumble on an online review site after tussling with Sanders supporters on Twitter.

Other notable targets have included Ady Barkan, a prominent liberal activist with A.L.S. — whom some Sanders-cheering accounts accused of lacking decision-making faculties due to his illness as he prepared to endorse Senator Elizabeth Warren — and Fred Guttenberg, the father of a shooting victim from the 2018 Parkland massacre, who had criticized Mr. Sanders’s statements about gun violence.

“Politics is a contact sport,” said Bakari Sellers, a former South Carolina State legislator who supported Ms. Harris in the Democratic primary. “But you have to be very cognizant when you say anything critical of Bernie online. You might have to put your phone down. There’s going to be a blowback, and it could be sexist, racist and vile.”

In recent days, he said, one man sent a profanity-filled private message on Instagram, calling Mr. Sellers, who is black, an “Uncle Tom” and wishing him brain cancer.

When Mr. Sanders’s supporters swarm someone online, they often find multiple access points to that person’s life, compiling what can amount to investigative dossiers. They will attack all public social media accounts, posting personal insults that might flow in by the hundreds. Some of the missives are direct threats of violence, which can be reported to Twitter or Facebook and taken down.

More commonly, there is a barrage of jabs and threats sometimes framed as jokes. If the target is a woman, and it often is, these insults can veer toward her physical appearance.

For some perceived Sanders critics, there has been mail sent to home addresses — or the home addresses of relatives. The contents were unremarkable: news articles about the political perils of centrism. The message seemed clear: We know where you live.

Maybe it's all bullshit, but I know my wife (Warren supporter, and progressive activist) fucking despises the Bernie Bros.  So, if the only response to these stories is "whatabout the media" or "whatabout Clinton supporters four years ago", it will hurt Bernie, and that means it hurts the chances of getting rid of Trump. For what it's worth, I don't think Bernie is driving this.  I think there are plenty of pissed off people on the Democratic-ish side who are drawn to Bernie as a candidate, in part because he's not a DNC favorite.

Because this is a repeat of 2016 in reverse. The Democrats though Trump would be the easiest to defeat, Hillary and Bill wanted him to win, and they completely failed to see what actually appealed to enough people. Republicans think saying Socialist enough times over (which is what they've done since Obama and it doesn't work as well anymore) about someone who will lean into that label will be enough.
