I guess I am old enough to remember all the way back to 2016.

And you've had people do nothing but pledge to defeat Donald Trump in 2020, all these people are not going to stay out. You are wildly speculating if you look at any national polling.

I think the superdelegates understand that.

Each superdelegate has the equivalent of at least 10,000 votes. One person - 10,000 votes.

Sanders tried to eliminate superdelegates. His efforts were thwarted by DNC and Clinton representatives on the committee.

Wat?  I thought we got rid of superdelegates this year. No?

For the first ballot, but after that they can vote. So in other words if there's not a majority of delegates awarded to one person I believe they'll come into play.

Ballot #1 - Pledged delegates are locked into their candidates and they vote
if no majority
Ballot #2 - Pledged delegates can be faithless electors (change to whoever they want) and the superdelegates get to vote

I actually don't know what the process would be if that STILL didn't result in a majority.

I do know this with a very strong certainty. If Bernie goes in with more votes/delegates than anyone else and doesn't get the nomination, there are tens of thousands of Bernie supporters who will either sit out quietly or actively campaign against both Trump AND the elites-selected nominee. Think of it what you will. Feel about it what you will. But we will go to active war with this party.

And this isn't just true of Bernie and his supporters.

If Elizabeth Warren does a Comeback Kid move and makes it to Milwaukee with a plurality and has Pete selected over her, we are going to get PUMA 2.0 and we will have tens/hundreds of thousands of FURIOUS women actively campaigning against Pete.

If Joe Biden comes in with a plurality and Pete is selected over him because the elites think he's losing his mind, it's going to get extremely ugly with the older black community.

And on and on and on.

This should be a foregone conclusion.

A) The delegate winner gets the nomination and we fight for that person.
B) We never, ever, ever support Mike Bloomberg.

These are just common sense at this point.

From an leftist fairly well-off millennial Bernie Bro, none of us honestly think Bernie is going to get things like this passed or even, unfortunately, his single-payer universal healthcare legislation. This is all about resetting what the supposed Democratic party should represent and force it to look more like what the rest of the developed world's "left" parties look like. I posted this in the Bernie thread, but it's what Boots Riley gets at here,

I wish people would say that because people run with all kinds of BS propaganda and he doesn't seem to want to stop any of it - he's happy to wear the socialist moniker etc.  He needs to realize he's a serious candidate and will have to play some politics to beat the biggest POS that has ever graced the WH.  I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think a guy as genuine and nice as Bern can win in today's day and age.  Like when BT chastises him for apologizing for stupid shit - don't do that.  Can he play these games?  If he's the guy, I sure hope so.

Bernie took Hillary to the wire and completely changed the landscape of the Democratic Party. Within 4 years he has made himself the central energy in basically all of center to center-left to left politics.

Hmmm, I wonder if he knows what he's doing.

lol

I'm talking about beating Donald.  Not just the D primary.  I think he needs to start to sharpen his knives.  I'm assuming they're old and cheap...maybe from salvation army.  Either way, super nice guy apologizing all over the place won't beat Donald.

My entire point is that people, especially working and lower middle-class people, shouldn't have to rely on the hopes that their employer is going to truly listen to their thoughts and concerns, many of them don't have the luxury of looking for that perfect job.

oh, I completely agree. The vast majority of them should be organizing and bargaining collectively.

You're going to focus on a battle and lose the war.

Fuck that. He said the same thing about the rest of the candidates and he's right. The DNC has one chance not to shoot themselves in the dick and that is by giving the nomination to who has the most delegates/votes, especially if that candidate has an extensive lead.

I agree the nomination should go to who has the most delegates.  That said, I also think the DNC is less of a threat to this nation than the dotard and the Rs.  If the DNC does what the DNC does, which is generally shoot itself in the dick, I'll still try to save this country.

It takes a very unrealistic view of the human race to shit on BT for saying Bernie supporters will be furious and won’t fall in line if he has a delegate lead and the nomination is given to someone else. You can waste time moralizing about how this election is too important and they need to unite with whoever just stole their spot, but that’s not, never has been, and never will be how people work. Expecting otherwise and then getting all pissy when you’re proven wrong would be stupid.

They can be furious.  That doesn't stop this country from falling into authoritarianism.  Whatever, I'll be on the Ledge.

Of course not. That’s why if Bernie has the delegate lead the DNC has to give him the nomination. The shooting themselves in the dick move at that point would be to give it to anyone else.  I’d like to say I’m confident they understand and won’t do that, but we’re talking about the Democratic Party here.

I explained it in the post at the top of the page.

So, this?

That said, I also think the DNC is less of a threat to this nation than the dotard and the Rs.

Trump is a battle, not a war. Hyperbolic drama aside, the nation will exist long after Trump. So that's out as for "war, not battle" logic.

So we're left with the Republicans being a bigger threat.

OK, why? I don't disagree, but I would be interested to know why the Democrats are better. Is it because of the name of the party? Is it because of certain values held? What is it about the Democrats that makes them better?

I'm going out for the night, but off the top of my head, the Dems actually believe in the rule of law.  That's kind of important.

And what happens when the leader of the Democratic Party is someone who literally buys his way past term limits so he can maintain power?

Pretty sure Germany has a law where workers reps must occupy 50% or 51% of a board's makeup. The idea is that the board doesn't completely fuck over the workers who get absolutely no say when we've been gutting unions since Reagan.

Yeah but we beat those krauts in WW2 so they don’t know shit.

This is ‘Merica! Not only did we beat the krauts but we elected a reality star to be the president who has only filed for bankruptcy seven times. So obviously we know that their union board member shit is all retarded.

I seriously doubt if Bernie has the plurality of delegates that they won't fall in line and award him the nomination. They may be inept but they are not this stupid given how many people blame Bernie supporters for not voting for Hillary, they would be completely give them a bigger reason to do so again. I almost believe, at least given dumb rumors I've seen online, that they would be more likely to screw over Bloomberg if he got the plurality of delegates.

The war on "GOP truth" is well underway. There are no apologies. With the Democratic nomination, 99% of Sanders's supporters have an eye on unity.

With Trump, there are gettables, those who are discouraged and ashamed, goofballs, and those making money off that enterprise.

It is not too early for anyone serious about beating Trump to engage. You might be surprised how shallow and narrow his support really is.

if trump/mcconnell get to replace 1+ more judge we’re in deep fucking shit for a couple decades.

any effort by the dems that doesn’t start with beating trump is misguided.

this isn’t about principles.

Starting to see Tom Steyer ads here in Texas. He seems like a nicer guy than the constant Bloomberg “I’m pretty much a stiff billionaire” ads but I really don’t know what he’s doing here as I can’t see him getting much of the vote.

And as for the debate, when Bloomberg qualified for the Nevada debate I thought to myself why would he want to subject himself to that when he’s just gaining ground in the polls spending a billion dollars on ads. Guess I was right.

What kind of judges do you think Bloomberg is going to put in?

pro-choice moderate types i would assume.  i have no idea.

i don’t like him either, but comparing him to trump is a joke.
