So are they going to play K State this weekend or is it canceled?

Kansas State Wildcats still grappling with COVID issues as Oklahoma week begins

The full weight of Kansas State’s roster limitations didn’t hit Chris Klieman until his assistant coaches had to assemble a scout team that would help the Wildcats and their defensive starters prepare for Arkansas State earlier this month.

With nearly 40 players out because of COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and various other reasons, Klieman said mixing and matching a group of five offensive linemen was trickier than solving a Rubik’s cube. The Wildcats asked a tight end to line up at left tackle, a fullback to play guard and a defensive end to settle in at right tackle.

Klieman was hoping to avoid a repeat of that issue this week as the Wildcats prepare for their second game of the season, a difficult road test against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, but it sounds as if player absences remains a challenge as Big 12 play begins.

“We were excited because we were able to get 12 kids back on Monday after that game,” Klieman said. “Low and behold, we’ve lost probably another 10 to tracing or a positive over the past week. You take two steps forward and you end up taking a step and half or two steps back.”

For now, that puts K-State in only slightly better shape than it was for its season-opening loss to the Red Wolves in which key players such as Joshua Youngblood, Wykeen Gill, Christian Duffie and Khalid Duke all watched from the sidelines in matching sweats.

Klieman is “cautiously optimistic” that the situation will improve as the week progresses. As of Monday, he says K-State meets all the thresholds necessary to play the Sooners this weekend. But things can change between now and then. Several games involving Big 12 teams have already been postponed or canceled this season, the most recent being Houston at Baylor.

Perhaps that is why Klieman seemed more focused on getting to Saturday’s game rather than winning Saturday’s game when asked about the possibility of K-State repeating a 48-41 upset over the Sooners from last season.

“Can we do that this year? Who knows,” Klieman said. “We have to attack today, get through Monday and have a great Monday, stack that on top of Tuesday, to give ourselves any opportunity on Saturday against a terrific team on the road.”

K-State was off last week, and Klieman spent much of that time adjusting the team’s usual practice schedule to help develop depth for future games.

He said many of K-State’s freshmen “that we know aren’t physically or mentally ready” practiced exclusively against each other during segments of practice. The goal was to teach them enough “base football” that they will be ready to play as many as 15 snaps in a game if they are called upon.

Ronnie Perkins probably back...    Still no word on Bridges and Stevenson yet

OU football: Will Ronnie Perkins be more than 'moral support' for Sooners vs. Texas

by RYAN ABER            Tue, October 6, 2020 6:30 AM.

NORMAN — OU’s defense is expected to get a major boost back Saturday when defensive end Ronnie Perkins is expected to make his season debut against Texas.  Sooners coach Lincoln Riley, though, isn’t about to say that or even act like it’s any more a possibility than it was a few weeks ago.   “Honestly, kind of in the same spot that we’ve been with all three of those guys,” Riley said, keeping Perkins bunched with two other suspended players, running back Rhamondre Stevenson and wide receiver Trejan Bridges.  “It could change in five minutes, it could change maybe in three more weeks. I wish I had more answers, but sadly I do not.”

Perkins, Bridges and Stevenson were each suspended after failing at NCAA drug test in advance of the Peach Bowl in December. The NCAA mandates a half-season suspension for such an offense, which sources have said was testing positive for marijuana.  Riley has repeatedly called the process ongoing and said there were appeals being worked through.  Other than OU arguing the suspensions should be reduced because the number of games played in 2020 was reduced, though, there was not another appeal moving forward in the case over the last few months until recently.

New circumstances in Perkins’ case opened the door for an appeal, and it was granted according to a source close to the situation.   That’s what opened the door for Perkins to travel to Iowa State last week. He didn’t play, because hurdles remained before Perkins would be able to return to the field, but there’s confidence within the athletic department that those hurdles can be cleared by early in the week.  Perkins has been practicing with the team and is expected to play in Saturday game against Texas (11 a.m., Fox).

That Perkins’ situation is different from Bridges’ and Stevenson’s was evident Saturday as Perkins was on the sidelines and the other two players weren’t.  None of the three had been on the sideline for either of OU’s first two games.  Riley said Monday that Perkins was there for “moral support.”  “Just his presence there was really positive and I thought he contributed to an excited sideline,” Riley said Monday. “Just was really good for some of our young guys there in key positions.

“His status for Saturday has not changed.”

Against Iowa State, the Sooners’ defensive line was able to get pressure on Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy, though it wasn’t until late in the game that they were able to record a sack.

Oklahoma-West Virginia football game postponed due to COVID-19

3:22 PM CT.    Sam Khan Jr.ESPN Staff Writer

Oklahoma's game at West Virginia on Saturday has been postponed, the Big 12 announced on Wednesday.  The No. 11 Sooners have temporarily paused organized team activities because of recent positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the program. The game with the Mountaineers, originally scheduled to be nationally televised by ABC on Saturday night, is now scheduled for Dec. 12.

This is the first game either school has had to postpone this season.

The Sooners are the highest-ranked Big 12 team in the latest College Football Playoff selection committee rankings, which were unveiled Tuesday. They currently trail the current Big 12 leader, No. 13 Iowa State, by one game in the Big 12 standings. If the Sooners are to win their final two games, the Sooners would clinch a berth in the Big 12 Championship game.

Oklahoma's next scheduled game is Dec. 5 vs. Baylor. West Virginia's next contest is Dec. 5 at Iowa State.

How are those 2 loss fucks ranked 11th?  This whole system is shit.

Should be ranked based on how good you are.  2 losses and they played a full slate of games unlike the B1G and PAC.  OU would dominate anyone in the PAC right now.  Unless you’re 3 specific teams in the country, you’re not better than OU’s program.  But yes - they suck.

True about the PAC. OU and Texas would thrash everyone. That's a weak ass conference.

This was a 1 year suspension for weed. It was supposed to be for 6 games.

Any intimation that this was a favorable judgement for OU (more importantly for this dude) is an error.

I was going through some team's year by year records last night after someone brought up which coaches had the most undefeated seasons. I thought I'd remind everyone/share that OU hasn't had a one-loss season (or better) in 17 years. Good at beating middling teams - can't hang on the big stage.

Lol.  You should also point out over that span there’s 3, maybe 4 teams that can talk shit on the overall resume.  Bama, Clemson, tOSU and maybe UT?
