Lulz. blOU fans think all five QBs they could start next year are Heisman contenders 😂

You've gone full aggy when the five heisman contender potential starters on your team include 1) a player in the transfer portal who was only good enough to be your backup last year, 2) 2 players not even enrolled at your school, 3) a player who has never played meaningful snaps but "has good measurables", and 4) a guy who you're praying might come back because you know 1-3 aren't looking so hot (spoiler, he won't).

It's like they've completely forgotten that Jason White, Blake Bell, Trevor Knight, Rhett Bomar and Paul Thompson were recent OU quarterbacks.

Oklahoma blocking QB transfer Austin Kendall from 2019 eligibility at West Virginia

12:30 PM CT   Jake Trotter  ESPN Staff Writer

As it gets a commitment from Alabama graduate transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma is blocking quarterback Austin Kendall from becoming immediately eligible at West Virginia as a graduate transfer, sources told ESPN.

Under new transfer rules, Kendall is able to talk to Mountaineers coaches and is free to transfer to the school. Oklahoma, however, still reserves the right under NCAA rules to keep Kendall from becoming immediately eligible at West Virginia, another Big 12 school, for the 2019 season, even though he has earned his undergraduate degree at Oklahoma.

Kendall could still transfer to West Virginia, but he would have to sit out the upcoming season, leaving him with only one year of eligibility remaining.

Kendall entered the transfer portal Friday after learning the day before that the Sooners had been pursuing Hurts and had scheduled for him to visit Norman over the weekend, a source said. Hurts committed to Oklahoma in a letter on The Players' Tribune on Wednesday.

Because classes at many FBS schools across the country started this week, Kendall's options for enrolling at a new university in time to participate in spring ball became limited. West Virginia had been a viable option, until Oklahoma intervened.

The SEC passed a rule last summer saying it would allow graduates to transfer within the conference and be eligible immediately, regardless. Previously, SEC players had to apply for a waiver. The Big 12 has no such rule, a league source confirmed.

Though not common, intraconference transfers do occur. In the Big 12, safety John Bonney left Texas for Texas Tech as a graduate transfer just before the 2018 season started and immediately became a key part in the Red Raiders' secondary, facing off against the Longhorns later in the season.

Quarterback Austin Kendall, who is exploring his transfer options, is being blocked by Oklahoma from immediate eligibility if he were to transfer to West Virginia, sources told ESPN.

In 2016, Big 12 members did vote to change its intraconference transfer rule for walk-onsand retroactively applied it to Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, giving him back a season of eligibility that he had previously lost. Mayfield had walked on to Texas Tech in 2013 then transferred to Oklahoma the following year without a scholarship. Under the previous Big 12 rule, which the league initially upheld before reversing course in a re-vote the following day, Mayfield would have, in addition to sitting out the first year, also lost a season of eligibility. With his fourth year of eligibility restored, Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy and led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.

After backing up Mayfield in 2015, Kendall redshirted in 2016 then backed up Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, who had transferred in from Texas A&M, last season.

While an assistant at Kentucky, West Virginia coach Neal Brown had recruited Kendall, a Charlotte, North Carolina, native, out of high school. Kendall would figure to contend for the Mountaineers' starting job, with West Virginia looking to replace two-year starter Will Grier.

A source said that, regardless, Kendall is now committed to leaving Oklahoma and has withdrawn from classes at the school. He has visited Auburn this week, in addition to receiving interest from other schools.

Oklahoma officials were not immediately available for comment.

This. OU is showing their ass with not letting Kendell transfer.

My understanding is...... They're letting him transfer with immediate playing time if it's not to a B12 Team.

Not a good look though.

Bringing in a transfer then limiting a kid to transfer looks bad regardless. I don’t think a school should be able to limit any kid if ge Graduates.

It looks petty.

Agree with your comments on no restrictions for grad transfers.

Rules allow BlowU to do it if they choose to....

Yep.

they made sure to lobby the conference to change the transfer rules to benefit them (walk on transfer within conference for Mayfield) but sure as shit throw down the hammer when it hurts them.

theyre the fucking worst.

It is petty, unlikely to help them (as WVU is a likely W for them anyway), and detracts from their reputation. The only ones who potentially benefit from this are schools that recruit against OU.

edit Combined with his obviously self-servingly false promise to Rattler and OU's handling of the BM affair, it is hypocritical many times over. Looking forward to an even bigger win to retain the hat than the one to take it.

Kendall is a grad transfer.  OU couldn't stop him from playing immediately to a non Big 12 school, even if they wanted to.

Wish someone could post rule that allows BlowU to block Kendall's grad transfer to WVU with immediate eligibility....

On radio they just reported that the block is allowed for any team on BlowU's regular season schedule for next 2 years (since Austin has 2 years eligibility left)

Allowed to block because B12 can set rule regarding intra-conference transfers which is additional to any restrictions that would apply from NCAA.

Aware that Conferences are allowed to have more restrictive rules on transfers than NCAA requires.    Also June 2018, SEC changed their conference rules so grad transfers could not be blocked from one SEC team to another SEC team.

But would love to see the actual B12 rules on transfers that BlowU is using to block Kendall as the rules are stated in the B12 Rules Manual for CFB.

I have heard so many different interpretations on B12 CFB transfer rules, interested to see what the rules actually are......

Yeah but they’re gonna bitch and moan about the “Horns down” nonsense and claim the conference caters to us. Fuck OU

1) What Rules are there in B12 Handbook about blocking transfers to schools outside the B12??

2) Please provide a link to access this B12 Handbook for CFB....

Thanks!!

1. The rules in the handbook, so far as I know, only address eligibility to participate as part of a B12 team. It would be hard now to block a student from participating at schools outside the conference because those schools would have no compulsion to regard our rules. The NCAA itself requires non-graduate transfers to sit out a year.

2. I quoted from a B12 handbook that was not only about football. There may be another. http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410/pdfs/handbook/ConferenceHandbook.pdf

BREAKING: Oklahoma will grant grad transfer QB Austin Kendall the waiver to be immediately eligible at West Virginia, @usatodaysports has learned.  The school worked through its concerns over a transfer within the Big 12 to arrive at the decision.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Guess they asked Austin to apologize to OU cheerleader one last time for his poor throw......

A bit of a "dust up" in Norman, it would seemwhich shows that 2025, is a far & long off timeframe in conference realignment...

As in the question of if *(i.e., could Gallogly be replaced beforehand)... Thus making any potential (or lack thereof) moves too hard to determine in 2019...

What does this have to do with conference realignment?

*(In my opinion/ observation):

2025 is far off, Gallogly may or may not be at the helm of Oklahoma in 2024/ 2025, in which any prognostication of realignment endeavours could be deemed futile this far out...
