How he fits at Texas: Adimora is explosive downhill and a very willing hitter who’s going to end up at 6-foot-2, 205 or better in college. He reminds of DeShon Elliott with his sticky fingers in coverage and willingness to hit and hit high. In base D he’d be a boundary safety but he’s the kind of guy that projects into a big, skilled athlete that can play around the line of scrimmage in a dime package. – IB

Texas’ out of state recruiting campaign in the 2019 class continues, once again in California.

2019 Lakewood (CA) Mayfair 4-star safety Chris Adimora committed to Texas today. Adimora had competing offers from Boise State, UCLA, Nebraska, Oregon, USC, and Michigan, among others.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder visited the 40 Acres in the Spring and was instantly blown away. After UT took BJ Foster, DeMarvion Overshown, and Caden Sterns last cycle, safety coach Craig Naivar became enamored with Adimora, who fits the DBU moniker; athletic, versatile, and head hunts. He’s a violent hitter with plus+ cover skills.

Texas has added another commitment from the West Coast. This time is Mayfair (CA) S Chris Adimora.

A lot of times when we talk about certain DB recruits, we talk about how they run 4.4 and are insane athletes but don’t really have great ball skills and things like that. Well that isn’t the case with Adimora. He isn’t a guy that’s going to push a sub 4.4 40, but he’s one good football player. At 6’1 200 pounds, he already has some good size for a guy going into his senior year of high school.

He committed to Texas over USC, UCLA, Alabama, Boise State, Michigan, and Oregon. But one fact is that Boise State was actually the school closest to landing him over Texas. He had a really strong connection to the Broncos program, but he’s a Longhorn.

I’ll also say this, Adimora’s commitment has nothing to do with the staff feeling like they can’t land Lewis Cine or Jalen Catalon. Adimora has actually been in the bag with Texas for a few months now. This is a guy that was an under the radar guy for awhile, but has seen a rise into the Top 200 of most recruiting rankings. And is a really nice get for Craig Naviar, Tom Herman, and Texas.

Thoughts from Nahlin on Adimora

Some brief thoughts on why CA from CA is a very big get for Texas.

1) He’s really good. He’ll bring the pain like DeShon but is an even better athlete at the same stage. If Elliott had Adimora’s offensive tape we wouldn’t have heard about him being a potential linebacker from the peanut gallery. This role is highlighted to run the alley and play center field. At times it is gifted interceptions. Over time this should become a glamor position on the recruiting circuit. This position is almost certainly Adimora’s calling.

2) A&M bests Texas for Demani Richardson. Did the staff then look for low hanging instate fruit? No, because a like-for-like fit of championship caliber didn’t exist in Texas. When I first saw Adimora’s Hudl he was composite .90. That was off. He’s now .92. While that doesn’t seem like much, and often it is splitting hairs, it’s a recognition he’s the player the staff evaluated, not the networks.

3) California. The more Texas lands players from California the more it will compound. But they’ll need success, too, and the more you land from out West the better the chances you have of an All American or attention grabbing talent becoming a multiplier in recruiting out West.

4) They moved him off his August timeline which suggests he had been bought in as a future Horn for some time. That’s good recruiting and also a recognition that A&M is about to go on a run.

5) To land a really good safety or two in this cycle, the staff has to overcome the last class. Not everyone wants to compete with 2-3 five-stars in the previous cycle. But those who do are telling you about their competitiveness.

6) He’s going to play early and that’s more important than you think. One of Sterns or Foster will be a three-year player. On top of that, Overshown will likely play the Jason Hall dime role for only one year before departing for linebacker. Adimora could very well fit there as he gets his feet wet.
