I have a poors yeti called a Magellan from academy it is heavy as fuck and I am embarrassed to put the sticker on my truck but it keeps hot things hot and cold things cold so I am pretty sure there is a computer inside somewhere or how else would it know?

Bump.

I'm looking for a badass soft sided cooler that has backpack straps.  The Walmart one gets bad reviews for a shitty zipper, but the shape and size about right.

I can't afford the yeti version if that's what you're thinking https://www.yeti.com/en_US/soft-coolers/hopper-backflip-24-cooler/YHOPBF24.html

But maybe there's some better anecdotal evidence about the Ozark.

RTIC has one that fits in the middle of those 2.  I've been very happy with the quality of the RTIC products I've bought.  Looks like it only comes in camo, if that's an issue.  They are having a Father's Day sale right now.

I have yet to cross paths with anything marketed as a cooler that didn't keep my stuff cold.  For every cooler I've used at the end of the day I dumped the leftover ice water slush in my yard and put whatever leftover cold food/drink items back in the fridge.  That was pretty much the normal practice for coolers before Yeti convinced everyone they needed to keep their silver bullets protected from bears and ice somehow is a scarce commodity.

does anyone have any recommendations on a non-rotomold cooler that does a good job keeping shit cold.  i had a 65 quart yeti.  yea it worked great but as stated multiple times in this thread, it's too fucking heavy.

Igloo marine and the coleman extreme

Igloo now has a yeti looking but not roto molded line

Bought a Pelican wheeled cooler and it arrived yesterday. Looks great, think the wheels will come in handy, seems like it will last forever.

But wait, the lid seems warped. So I drop a flashlight in and check the seal on the front...yeah this was your one shot Pelican. Disappointed today the least.

I have a feeling that the non-camo one would work as well.

You are not going to find a soft-sided cooler that will keep stuff cold for days.  The hard-sided coolers only keep things cold for days if they are packed right and not opened.

Anybody know why RTIC is no longer sold at Buccee's?

RTIC undercut Yeti

whoever Buccees goes with now almost assuredly undercut RTIC

(i liked the RTIC cups way more than their current provider btw, it's a shape thing?)

AO Coolers Carbon Soft Cooler with High-Density Insulation, Silver , 24-Can https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B5IXNRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_M.WpDb94TVWHS

I've had one for 4 years. I use it on camping trips when I fly. It will keep things cold for 2 day, folds up pretty compact but holds enough stuff for 2 of us.

No personal experience, but IceMule (classic) are foldable and get decent ratings. I doubt it will keep ice for days, maybe if never opened, but should be good for a day at the beach, etc.

wirecutter likes either an AO Coolers version that is a little cheaper than that one or a Polar Bear one that is about that price IIRC

https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-hard-cooler/#best-soft-cooler-polar-bear-24-pack-nylon-cooler

they have more reviews of soft sided ones at the bottom

I asked a guy at Buccees a couple months back and he said that RTIC had issues with customer service when something went wrong with their product and Buccees would take the heat.  They got tired of dealing with pissed off customers.  I had never heard of quality issues with RTIC but I'm sure there are some.

TFWIW

I noticed the change when we stopped at the store in New Braunfels on Sunday.    They all get their coolers from China anyway and it's up to us poors who want to save money to see if it can rival or beat big bad Yeti as far as ice life.   Of course it must have  a cool sticker I guess to put on the back of the truck or SUV along with the Costa, Salt Life and SEC sticker if aggy.

I have several yetis I’ve won in fishing tournaments or been given during hunts and whatnot.  All too heavy. So this year I took a ~30 qt igloo similar to this to the river. Sucked balls. Bad. I remember them having much better performance.   Maybe because it’s so thin, I don’t know.   But it was light af, which was the mission.  Beers weren’t staying long in there anyhow.  But stacked nicely with beers and 10-12# of ice left inside AC cabin would melt in 18 hours.

old question but I have this wally backpack.  The zipper and cooler functionality are fine.  It's extremely cumbersome as a backpack.

so if you had it to do over again you would just get the typical soft sided cooler you carry vs the backpack version?

Well I have both. I use the regular one more often but the backpack is y’all and allows for wine bottles. Which is nice.

FWIW
I have the back pack too, and while it's a little heavy, I use it all the time. it holds ice ok, like anything else, the more you open it the faster it melts.  I take it fishing, to the pool etc..

I can put a towel on the lid, hook a speaker and bottle opener to the rings and roll out

I just bought this one for $19 at Academy last week. Just wanted a simple cooler for a few hours.

I have the Polar Bear 12 soft cooler that I got a Texas Exes Houston Chapter fundraiser with their "Come and Hook'em" logo. That one's great for heading to the neighborhood pool for a couple of hours. Big fan of that one.
