Truck Nuts

here's my list -

phase 1 - lineX spray in bed liner, weather tech mats (had them before, loved them), bakflip mx4 bed cover. He's slapping a tailgate mat/rug on there for free, easier to sit on. I got a price that can't be beat on all this, no brainer for me. Might get the Ford F150 branded rubber mat. 99.99% of the time, pick up bed won't be used. radar detector incoming, maybe tomorrow. I'm a Escort - Passport fan, had them in the past. I prefer a hard wire. I'll probably get darker tint, no rush here. Paint Protection film up front is very interesting to me, any input ?

phase 2 - ROUSH Fox 2.0 Suspension Kit (give me input here, ill get input from truck shops too. no issues also upgrading control arms. some kits come with control arms, some don't), I'll eventually up size my tires/wheels. retractable running boards (they drop a little lower, easier for my mom and dad and I like the look). might also swap out bumpers at this point. Barricade Extreme HD Front Bumper looks great. I'll do something with the rear too. 100% want a LED light on the new bumper. If/when I go new bumpers, I'm blacking out the paint job. Thinking flat black on the bottom. Also want to swap the '4x4' decal for mat black.

also, im a bug guard fan, the ford branded bug guard looks tight

phase 3 - oil catch can ? cold air intake ? upgrade exhaust system ? more HP is always good

Good list.  I see the mod bug has bitten you,  that is fun and addictive.  I only have one major mod left to do to my truck (got the truck almost a year ago) and that's exhaust, which I'll do in the next few weeks.

However, when I visit the forums I always  come across something else that I want to do.  I need to quit browsing those forums.

Tundra. All kinds of shit. A lot of the work was dechroming, which I knew I'd have to do as I kind of bought it as a platform to build what I wanted.
Did suspension and tires. Husky floor mats. Replaced stock head unit with a Kenwood. Shit, I'm not done with audio...
And some other little things like LED lights for interior lighting, and upgrading other basic things like that which Toyota neglects.

Here's a before and after:

Tell me more about your stereo plans... I would like to add / replace speakers.

Also, can some one recommend a remote start? I’ve heard the Toyota one is crap.

I got the Fortin remote start from James at tech12volts - https://shop.tech12volts.com/product.sc?productId=537&categoryId=59  You're correct that the factory one sucks because the truck will turn off when you open the door.

He also does audio and builds custom sub boxes for Tundras.  I haven't gotten too far down the road on deciding what exactly I'm going to do, but will probably start with one of the audio packages he has and go from there.  If you just want some advice I think you can call and explain what you want to do and he'll help you put something together.

Just bought Tech 12 volts, replacement sub for my Tundra. They sent a custom box and new JBL sub, it’s crazy how much better it sounds than the stock sub Toyota sent.

Also bought the wireless charging tray insert for the center console. It’s super nice addition as well.

As a Chevy guy, I'd take a F150 over a Ram every. single. time. Hell, I can't fault someone for choosing the F150 over the Silverado other than, well, they are wrong, but well that's a complete thread derail. I'll see myself out.

To me, everything about the ram other than the power train looks and feels cheap. The newest one is a bit better in that department but still lacking.

Nice, glad to hear the setup is good.  Did you do anything other than just replacing the sub?

I’m a ford guy, but damn the new Rangers look nice. Those Tacomas are damn near bullet proof

anyone running a radar detector ?

I got tired of all of the false alerts. I just run the Waze app now. If I were to buy one, I would probably end up with the Escort Max 360.

Cavalry Blue is the right color for Tacoma and 4runner. I am about 45k miles away from swapping my 2013 Tacoma for a 4runner and wish that this shade of blue was available for the 2020 4runners. I guess I’ll end up with the magnetic grey or whatever.

2020 TRDs get the green. Looks better in person.

Was sooo close to buying that exact trim and color, but the acceleration and interior features were not impressive, and car seats (lol sorry) wouldn’t fit well in the back seat unless the driver and shotgun like riding with their knees up on the dashboard. Ended up buying a Ridgeline for family friendly features, more cab room, more luxurious interior features. I’ve been afraid to visit this thread ever since.

I have no problems with a Ridgeline. It's the truck most people should get but don't.

People get all these off road capable trucks and then the truck never leaves the paved surfaces of suburbia.

People on this thread admit their truck beds are empty 99% of the time.

The Ridgeline is perfectly capable for the VAST majority of suburban truck owners.

I think the Ridgeline is a really good truck. I don’t tow and the bed would easily handle any weekend chores I tackle with a better ride and better gas mileage. However, this is my other vehicle. I’ve had such a good experience, I honestly didn’t consider anything else but Toyota 4x4 with a MT.

I think the Ridgeline is a great truck. It'll last a long time and your son will end up driving it

That should be considered off road. Some Houston streets are shitty.

many streets around me are horrible

the main purpose of my truck is running the Texas coast (I10 lake charles to SA and 59 hou to the valley). i have zero need for the V8 or 4x4, almost zero need for a the pick up bed too.

That is the best style, color, and graphics package they ever did imo. I’m not really a taco guy, but this truck is bad ass. Always loved that one, particularly.

I saw some midsize truck sales figures for 2019, and the Ridgeline was up 9% YoY.  That's amazing to me, since I don't think it's been updated in quite some time. None of the other trucks were close to that, and some were down.   Impressive.

When you sold 11 last year, selling 12 this year is a big deal!

I think the Ridgeline platform is linked to the Pilot. They went away from the funky angle walled sides of the bed to a more conventional looking bed (front still looks like a current model CRV or Pilot). I got the 4wd and I don’t think the towing capacity was that different from the Tacoma, good for a small trailer, jet ski, etc. As I said originally, the selling point was a roomier interior and better (classier?) options than I’d get with Tacoma for the same money. It also has this full size, lockable, waterproof  trunk hidden under the bed. Didn’t give much of a shit when I bought it, now it’s one of my favorite features so I can still haul around grocery bags, straps, jumper cables, random shit without junking up the back seat of my cab.

19-21 mpg has been underwhelming though.
