And all the guys on the lesser tours who he cannot sniff.

My uncle was at his club once and a member who was supposed to have three guests, who were already at the range, had to cancel. Course is very strict that you cannot play without a member. So the pro asked my uncle, who was just hitting balls, to take the guests out.  Turns out it was Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux who were in town for baseball and had an off day and were supposed to play with Bagwell.

My uncle said they were all really good, but Smoltz is the best he ever played with.  Said he shot a 68 from the tips and this was a course he had never played before (Shadowhawk -- which is a challenging course).  Smoltz isn't making cuts on the senior tour despite playing a shitload of golf. The average person does not understand how competitive tournament golf is and how difficult they make the rough in tournament conditions. Manziel has no shot. The bottom of whatever is the PGA's developmental tour would kick Manziel's ass in golf.

Guy I worked with played golf at UT. He took a part time job at one of the major country clubs for something like $7 an hour cause employees got to play the course. I used to check my watch when we'd start talking to see how long it took him to start talking about golf. Never more than a minute, and I don't play golf or care about it, so it wasn't like there was an opening for him to start talking about it. Used to have to interrupt him, cause he'd relive every stroke on a round if you didn't stop him. I asked him why he didn't go pro, cause you gotta be pretty good to play for UT. He said, "I don't like golf that much."

I said, "What the hell are you talking about. You're obsessed with golf." He said to be good enough to turn  pro he'd have to ignore his family, holidays, and everything else in life. As obsessed as he was, he said he couldn't ignore everything else in life to chase the pro tour.

Mr. Penick told the story of the local club champion who was a millionaire many times over.  He came for lessons, and told Mr. Harvey that he planned to practice every day until he turned fifty, and dedicate himself to joining the senior tour at fifty.  "What a coincidence" said Mr. Penick.  "There's a guy down on the practice range right now who is just like you-successful in business, a millionaire many times over-who has dedicated his life to practicing for the senior tour in a couple of years.  Would you like to meet him?"  After acknowledging that he would, indeed, like to meet his future competition, Mr. Penick escorted the aspiring golfer to the driving range.  They approached the lone figure out hitting ball after ball.  Mr Penick introduced them thusly: "Mr. Smith, meet Mr. Tom Kite.  Mr. Kite, meet Mr. Smith. "  Mr. Smith grinned, and said to Mr. Penick "I get your point".

"I'm practicing to be on the senior tour when I turn 50" says every guy who has won their club championship numerous times.

They tend to forget the guys on the current tour who they can't sniff will also be on the senior tour who they still can't sniff.

Romo would beat the shit out of 8ball and look how his golf "career" is coming along.

Just something for him to stay relevant for a couple more weeks is all this is about.

I used to work in a golf shop that a lot of these guys would frequent.  I knew maybe 4 or 5 really good golfers that actually tried to qualify for the tour,  and every one of them said the difference between them and the guys that would get on the tour was the short game.

Said they could hit it with then them all day long,   but when they got around the green and putting is where they would get beat.

So the moral of the story is work on your short game.

A putt is as many strokes as a drive.

That  podcast is crazy.  That interviewer is not only the biggest sycophant ever, he's quite possibly an even bigger douchebag than Johnny.  Love the segment that was basically like "You weren't in the NFL long, but you had the kind of 'access' 15 year veterans never had."  Hey, who cares if he threw his career away, he got into clubs and parties.

I thought this was already out there? I thought the aggy excuse was "it's legal because others do it too." This won't move any needles. The NCAA is too busy burying programs like OKST basketball for things that had no benefit to any school or player. That's obviously more important than $30K to aggy qbs.

he was epically punished by aTm for the pic that got out of him with 500 signed footballs...  they said he was a bad person, learned his lesson and was suspended for a half a game.....

thats an epic punishment in todays NCAA

Love him mocking the NCAA - what are they going to take away my 9-4 season and chicken bowl trophy??!

Yep, same here.  I don't know about whatever statute of limitations may or may not exist, but it seems that that type of mockery could piss somebody off enough to go after aggy and foosballs ass.

At least I wish.

Here is the problem I brought up back when people were first complaining about Manziel selling autographs -

The officials at A&M knew Manziel was selling autographs under the table and that if the truth was told Manziel would probably have been declared ineligible.

At the same time, A&M was trying to sell the bonds to finance the Kyle Field rebuild.

Had Manziel (their biggest ticket draw) been declared ineligible, it may well have affected demand for tickets, which would have affected the financial fortunes of A&M athletics, and their ability to sell the stadium bonds on the open market.

By not disclosing a known material risk to investors, John Sharp, et al, committed securities fraud.

The statute of limitations on fraud begins to toll when the fraud is detected.

Yeah, giving $30M to mom and pop businesses...what a horrible concept

Charity donations are nice, not saying they are absolutely horrid. Let's face it though, the whole brand is TMZ for men.

That wasn't just an A&M thing to cover up for the autograph signing thing. A&M had a game with Alabama coming up. In 2012, they'd beaten Alabama in their first year in the SEC. John McLain said it best, before the penalty was handed down, that they'd sit him for a half against Little Sisters of the Poor, but there was way too much money on the line in terms of TV ratings for the NCAA to sit Manziel for the Alabama game. That rematch was going to draw huge ratings, and it would cost the network, the SEC and A&M if Manziel wasn't on the field.

"Money on the line in terms of tv ratings" vs federal securities fraud.

Lol.

If it can be shown the officials at A&M knowingly did not disclose Manziel had been selling autographs while they were shilling securities that were very much dependent on the "Johnny Football" mania continuing, tv ratings would be the least of their concerns.

Do I expect Abbott or any of the pieces of self-serving shit running Texas government to hold anyone associated with Texas A&M culpable for this, or for their "12th Man" fraud, or anything?

Hell no. Texas politics isn't about anything honorable.

Do I expect someone else to finally have the balls to ask some very uncomfortable questions to John Sharp? Probably not.

The aggys fucked up and killed 12 students in a drunken night of stupidity and negligent homicide and no one in Texas cared to hold anyone culpable.

The only individuals who paid any price were the drunken rednecks who had their skulls crushed to a pulp by the collapsing "act of God."

If you can kill 12 kids and no one cares, does anyone care?

The people of Texas deserve better than Texas A&M.

This is a legit concern for aggy, whether Abbott would look the other way or not.  This is potentially SEC, FINRA, FBI territory.
