How Is That Chain Still Open?

And that’s a good thing.

Made me think of Magic Wok on the drag in the mid 90s. King pao chicken, rice, egg roll and a drink for $3.71. Scary.

I lived around the corner from Magic Wok during that time......Cheap college kid chinese food for when you were tired of pizza delivery and all the other fast joints in the area.

I look at Chilis, Applebees, TGIF, etc as just extensions of fast food.  They are family friendly and you are generally in and out pretty quick.  Chilis burgers are okay to me.  I'd say a step above fast food.  Not somewhere I would want to be on a Friday night, but if you are on the road or for lunch or something.  It's only a positive experience if there is no wait, imo.

Agree totally....Chili's makes a decent burger and most "fast casual" places fit the bill when you care more about just getting something decent and quick.

Agree on the hate for Applebees though...was stuck in Oak Ridge, TN on assignment for a couple of weeks in the mid-90s and Applebees was, at the time, the pinnacle of fine dining there. Hated that place ever since and fortunately have maybe only been once or twice since at the behest of family members.

Applebee's is the swanky weekend late-night hangout in some towns where I'd never live, such as Lufkin. They have DJs and shit.

In Brazil I have seen lines that rival our top BBQ joints here in Texas to get into Applebee’s and Outback Steakhouse. Makes no goddamn sense because cheap and delicious food can easily be found throughout Brazil.

This is where I'm at. If we're driving for vacation or something, Unless we have place in mind that we want to try, we're looking for a Chilis. There burgers are decent. and are only like $7.99 or something so it's not like it's more expensive that fast food.

And, I'm at the point in my life that I just can't eat fast food (except Whataburger, of course).....Al of it just tastes nasty to me.

Did yall know that Picadilly Cafeteria is still a chain in some states? I thought that place died with the last generation.

They were big in Northern Virginia when I lived there in the 80s.  I was surprised to see one this past June in a strip mall in Louisiana off I-12.

Anybody got that friend that he is too shy to get a girlfriend, but he wants to eat at Hooters and when you go there he acts like Dos Equis Man and all the girls know his name?

Ha!  I had a friend back in Knoxville that absolutely swore he was getting hit on every time we ate there.  Every, single time.  I told him he should try a strip club sometime - he may end up getting married in his mind.  He has never been to a strip club before, so I can't imagine how excited he'd be with the attention he'd get there.

Arby's. If I want to eat old meat flaps with horseradish sauce I will go down on an elderly prostitute and probably pay less.

Subway. Always mediocre or less, now I think only of Jared diddling kids.

Popeye's. How the mighty have fallen. All that's worth ordering now is the beans and rice. Not much meat on the chicken these days, and the spicy is bland.

Captain D's, Long John Silver: This has been a mystery for me for decades now.

Burger King: Has no identity, no niche.

You both suck cock.

Also never understood how Taco Bell thrives in Texas. We have amazing tacos everywhere and for cheap late night there is Taco Cabana.

I don't think people in Texas think of Taco Bell as Mexican food.....it's just Taco Bell and has a taste and gastronomical price to pay that is all it's own.

You go to Taco Bell for Taco Bell - not for tacos IMO.

If you don’t have that friend, you may be looking at “that friend” in the mirror.

At home I avoid the chains and eat local. On the road the chains are good for a quick stop in because you know what you are getting.  Chili’s has a decent rice bowl for the record.

I'll second Hooters - I mean why. Food is terrible and the waitresses ain't that hot. At least go to twin peaks (not it Waco though). There are plenty of options for scantly dressed girls (Tight Ends, Wild pitch around where I live)

I like Hooters wings.  I prefer breaded to naked wings.

Umm, Popeyes is fucking fantastic, and if you disagree something is wrong with you.

When a group of us (5-6) go offshore fishing 100+ miles out of Freeport for two days, I go buy 80 chicken tenders and divide them up in zip loc bags.  They get crushed.  Cold chicken tenders from Popeyes are great boat food.

I will say that Popeye's has high variance, and has some truly wretchedly ghetto locations that are awful. But peak Popeye's is indeed fantastic.

I also think Chili's is a place that gets underrated because everyone has to bash it relentlessly to show how amazingly cultured they are and above eating at Chili's. It's predictable and fine, which can be a much-needed thing when kids or olds or pickies are included in the mix. Perfectly good quick lunch or road food option.

Chilis chips and salsa and chicken sandwich slams and goes hard in the paint.

Criticism of Popeyes bothers me. A lot. And Johnny is right - cold Popeyes is solid boat food.

And McDonald’s is actually decent for something: breakfast.

Chili’s is reliable and plain. I can get a decent burger, and a couple of good salads. I’ve eaten at the one at Love field a couple of times lately, when I wanted something other than whataburger.

Y’all are mistaking “unremarkable” for “awful” in some cases. And sometimes, unremarkable is fine.

I like Popeye's, it's good, and I bought PLKI @ $19... RIP

But Dion's is the best boat chicken, and I will not be dissuaded!  How they have not spread faster is a mystery.  Some folks just must not love gas station chicken!

Krispy Krunchy Cajun chicken (found in gas stations only) is the best gas station chicken, and actually rivals Popeyes. Disagree with me, and I will fight you.

Subway is such a give-up option. It's like declaring "I don't really want to be alive, but to sustain my pointless existence for another day I guess I'll eat Subway so I don't starve."

It smells like ass in every one of them.

Ive heard the response many times that “it’s the bread they’re baking there.”

i have been in/to dozens if not hundreds of bakeries in my life.  Not a single one of them smelled like that.

Fuck anyone that says Popeye's sucks. Popeye's is fucking delicious and you should feel bad for your bad opinion.

I'll eat Arby's a couple of times a year.

I like Schlotzky's

No one is going to Taco Bell for authentic tacos. You go for the delicious food abominations. The cheesy gordita crunch absolutely slams.

JITB tacos are a top 5 drunk food.

McDonald's has the best fast food breakfast in the game after Whataburger.

The rest of the stuff on this thread? Yeah, it's bad.

They have one of these at Choctaw Casino in Durant.  Good shit, and the honey biscuits are on fuckin point.

Pumpkin pie? You've never tried Skyline, have you? It's okay. You're not alone. And nobody who gets it cares.

Uh yeah I have, live less than a mile from one.  Their "Chili" has sugar, cinnamon, and allspice in it...  pumpkin pie after taste that no amount of shredded cheese can make up for.

I was inside my Popeye's on Tuesday and the quality of worker there is as bad i have seen, and that is comparing to a fast food place i went to in Vegas off the strip. with all the jobs in Vegas you know how bad you have to be to work at fast food place off the strip?

I think they have devalued their chicken with their Tuesday special. I have a hard time paying full price on any other day. I get two of the specials with a side for under $4 on Tuesday. Even though a full meal is well worth $7+ on other days, it just feels so expensive, when it really isn't.

I swear I've walked by a subway when someone opens the damn door and my clothes smell like that awful smell for the rest of the day. It's unbelievable.

Taco bell is great because it's cheap as fuck. What costs 20+ elsewhere is 12 at TB.

Popeyes is tops.

McDonalds big mac coke and fries slam

I'm on a chikfila kick and I think they're my post tailgating/ndsu game hangover restaurant of choice this fall on Saturday nights.

Man how fucking fat are you that your order at Taco Bell costs 12 fucking dollars.

I travel throughout Texas. A lot. There’s been plenty of times where my last 6 meals have been 1) Whataburger and 2) eaten in my car. Everyone needs a change of pace sometimes.

Ever have to hurriedly crumple up and hide an empty Whataburger bag in your car, before you get to the Whataburger drive-thru window?
