Just read Elko is possibly on the list for the Ms St job. Heads will explode at aggy if that happens

If Napier said no, then Elko moves one spot higher on the list. At some point he is going from a laughable suggestion to fuck it we need a coach at this point because we fired our guy late

Thx for finding this @Bozo_Casanova

In case you're curious about the new Head Coach at UNM...

Dfb3UZSo_normal.jpgRedditCFB @RedditCFB

New Mexico officially names Danny Gonzales its new head football coach; Gonzales is DC at Arizona State; he played at UNM and was an assistant under Rocky Long there and at San Diego State; Long predicted Gonzales would become UNM's head coach one day: https://golobos.com/news/2019/12/17/danny-gonzales-named-head-football-coach.aspx

How much is Elko’s buyout?

Should Elko leave College Station to become a head coach or join a staff in the NFL, he will not owe A&M a buyout. If he accepts an assistant position at another SEC school -- no matter when it occurs -- Elko will owe a minimum of $1.05 million, which is half of his current base salary.

Thanks. That what I was figuring. There’s a ton of people on here that keep assuming guaranteed salary=buyout amount for another school or NFL org.

Useful, indeed.

Is there a handy table of Agents representing these people? You know, just to look for potential shenanigans...

So it is a buyout but only for SEC schools.

I seriously had to google WTF Elko is... That's not happening. If we go the coordinator route this time it would be Todd Grantham from Florida..who was at MSU 2 years ago..and his son will be on the baseball team next year.

Things might have really fallen apart with Napier tonight supposedly...as it sounds like he wants to see what Rhule does with the NFL jobs.. but don't think we hang on that long

and move on to either Joe Judge, Dave Clawson, sarkisian or someone else out of left field.

It is widely assumed Titans DB coach Kerry Coombes will come back to Columbus after the Titans finish their season, whenever that is.

So what happens to Kerwin Bell?  I watched a USF game sometime this year (no clue why) and the announcers were openly speculating that Bell took the OC job to be HCIW when Strong was fired.

Man, if that's true you could say that career choice was almost like...

I'm not rooting against you particularly, but after how Moorhead was treated, I am mildly gleeful that this appears to be turning into a clusterfuck for MSU.

Moorhead was a good person but HORRIBLE head coach. He was sinking the ship Mullen had built back up.

He had the best defense in the nation last year and only won 8 games, including losing to Mullen. The best win of his career was Auburn in 18, when 2 asst's convinced him to RUN THE DAMN BALL all night long and not play his style of play. The next week back with his check with me crap at the line down to 5 seconds. Our team lost all leadership and Joe wanted to be the players best friend. He alientated part of the team with the move to bring his boy, Tommy Stevens in to be the QB this year and make him team captain.

He can whine about the "tutorgate" issue but that lost 2 defensive starters and had nothing to do with his offensive issues.

He lost me after the KSU game this year. I had given him one more chance after the Iowa bowl game in 18. He fired a lot of us up after his first egg bowl win when he almost got in a fight with UM's hack of an AD on the field.

It was sad that for some reason we decided not to fire him after the egg. We should not reward a 6-6 record and a win over our rival.

But finally, it was the continued discipline issues on and off the field that got him fired. 5 seniors skipped bowl practice. then the fight with a "leader" of the team, Willie Gay and our starting QB.

No worries though, he will ride off and be a OC again next year likely while collecting 4-7 mil from us.

Could be closer to $9mill if Moorhead takes an analyst role for awhile... Or maybe some kind of lump sum settlement of $7-8mill...

Mississippi State Extends Joe Moorhead's Contract Through 2022     MAY 21, 2019

https://www.si.com/college/2019/05/21/mississippi-state-joe-moorhead-contract-extension

Mississippi State football coach Joe Moorhead has a little more job security now.  The school announced Tuesday that he has signed a contract extension through the 2022 season that will pay an average base salary of $3.2 million. Moorhead originally signed a four-year deal worth an average of $2.75 million when he was hired following the 2017 season. Moorhead's new deal is also four years, which is the longest allowed by state law.  He will earn a base salary of $3.05 million next season and that number will increase by $100,000 in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

I get what you are saying,..just going on what has been reported. . Max of 7mil. down to 4 depending on pay of new position.

If no Napier, who do you hope Miss St hires as new Head Coach??

Meh... we are all very split on that question. The name being pushed by some is Joe Judge who is interviewing as the HC of the Giants today. Never been an OC. Just a ST coordinator. Played under Jackie at MSU. Then worked under Sly Croom and then Nick Saban and then been with New England since 2012.  He's well known in the south and some names have already been floated around concerning staff that would be good for a coach leaning on the job. That's the problem. We can't do that again right now.. we need an established d1 coach. Evidently he can bring Aaron Feld back to MSU where he started..from where he currently is at Oregon.

Dave Clawson of Wake Forrest is getting some talk.. but hasn't intereviewed

I'm not in favor of the service academy guys..no thanks to triple option. TROY CALHOUN or JEFF MONKEN.

And hell no to Cheesedick

You're MS State, this should be considered a decent enough year.  Definitely not a top notch year, but good enough that the corch doesn't get canned in just his second year.

I appreciate the information. I am not saying Moorhead is blameless, or even that he did a good job. Or, especially, that you as a fan owe him any gratitude or loyalty. As a disinterested third party observer, something about a lower-tier program like Mississippi State firing a guy after two non-disastrous seasons (again, that is from the outside looking in) largely because he's a poor cultural fit-- it just bugs me.

The grownups in the room should have been able to judge his cultural fit before hiring him. If you guys don't want a Yankee coaching your football program, don't hire one. Hiring one and then firing him after he goes 6-7... I mean, 6-7 is about what Mississippi State is. That just isn't "firing after Year 2" level boobery out of one of your head coaches.

Plus Jackie Sherrill coached there a long time. Frankly I don't think you're absolved of all your sins yet.

Again. It was more than the record. It was because we weren't prepared, competitive, or disciplined.

He kept saying he didn't inherit the 85 bears and needed to build something here..No he didn't it was already built. He was destroying it.

More so... how he celbrated the egg bowl win..as if he had done something special and wasn't GIVEN the game and not being fired that night..

You don't alienate your fan base by telling them to go kick rocks and pound sand.

You don't get told by your AD the bowl game is a business expense.. and then get your ass blown out (it wasn't as close as the final score).

You would be hard to find any mu fan that wanted him to stay another year.

Oh I definitely get your points there and a lot of it does seem to go back to the "He never really fit in" mantra.  As another poster in the thread pointed out, if he was such a bad fit then the people responsible for hiring him should be shitcanned before you hire the next coach.
