Ted Cruz is a piece of shit

If you asked 100 women about Beto’s gun issue, how many would care? How many would be affected?

If you asked 100 men about Beto’s gun issue, how many would care? How many would be affected?

The histrionics over his gun comments are overblown as a one issue voter, and we should be 100% focused on making fun of Ted Cruz right now.

Deciding to go to Cancun to escape the cold and power/issues is just bad judgement for a public official. But then lying about by blaming his kids and wanting to be a good dad? That’s just another Ted Cruz lie to the public.

At first he made it sound like he was just chaperoning his kids on the flight while they went off with friends, and presumably other parents. Now we know that it was all Heidi’s idea for the trip and anyone else were the invited guests?

I want to say that I’m shocked by this behavior by Ted and Heidi but they’re just bad people.

I didn't get a chance to comment on this yesterday, because I didn't have power or internet.  But I guess what surprises me isn't the absence of judgment that it takes to run to Cancun.  I can at least understand that instinct.  I had it myself (acknowledging, of course, that I am not an elected official).

What surprises me is that once he got caught, (1) his first instinct was to hop on a plane home and (2) lie about the entire thing in a series of easily debunked lies.

If he had taken 10 minutes, he would've realized he could spin this.  Put out a statement that looks something like this:

Quote

STATEMENT FROM SEN. TED CRUZ

By late Tuesday evening, my house had lost power, water, and internet, along with much of the rest of Houston.  Under such circumstances, there was no way for me to help coordinate aid to the millions of affected Texans.  Accordingly, I made the decision to relocate to a place with stable internet and phones.

I acknowledge that my decision to fly specifically to Mexico was motivated by my desire to shield my family from the current catastrophe and to provide them with a happy distraction.  I had anticipated that they would be able to have a short holiday while I continued working.

And that is what I did while in Mexico.  In close coordination with the Biden Administration, I ensured that the federal government is speeding aid to Texas, including _________ (enumerate the piddly shit that Ron Klain gave you after you promised to vote for Covid relief and immigration reform).  I was only able to work with the Biden Administration over the last two days because I had power and a stable internet and phone connection.

But even so, I recognize that there is something important about a shared experience during a disaster.  A leader should experience the hardships of those he purports to lead--"lead from the front" in the old parlance.  In that I failed.  I am heartily sorry for my failure and lapse of judgment.

Many people are angry that while they suffered in the cold and dark, I went to Mexico.  My intentions were true.  But they are right.  I was wrong.

I apologize to all Texans for my failure and lapse of judgment.  I hope they will forgive me.

If you put out that statement, you get out of this.  You at least provide an excuse that TexAgs can parrot without looking completely stupid.

But instead, he did what teenaged-GoLL would've done: scrambled back without any forethought while vomiting out a ridiculous lie to try to cover it.  In so doing, he compounded his problem.

I expect my elected officials to exercise better judgment than a teenaged me.  That he did exactly what I would've done at 18 should disqualify him from ever holding an office of public trust.

Cruz should hire you. You have to assume that some of the "problem" politicians have trouble retaining competent staff. Besides helping to craft a decent excuse, a competent chief of staff or comms director would have told Cruz that flying to a beach vacation resort is an extremely bad idea while people are still suffering.

And Cruz should be fire anyone that didn't give him better advice. Of course, since I'm of the opinion that a vacationing Cruz is better than a working Cruz, and I'm entertained any time he's caught in a scandal or lie, I hope he continues down this path.

Cruz's comms director quit after the insurrection, so I'd imagine that has something to do with the shitty messaging and crisis handling

That would imply Republicans hire competent staff and just not grifters who majored in aggrieved conservative victimhood and have rich parents who hooked them up with a job.

Shit starts at the top - Ted Cruz is an unprincipled hack of a politician with naked ambition and lust for power who cares nothing for the people  he represents, and therefore, his staff reflects it.  That's why he sucks at constituent services - he doesn't care, so his staff doesn't care.  They're looking to make a buck, move up to a better job and demonize the libtards and MSM while they are there.

Cruz told his comms staff to find someone to blame, so, following Ted's example of not defending Heidi, they blamed his kids and he likely was fine with such a stupid statement.

Fucking pussy, others can leave, you can't.  This is your job. Instead we get way more help from a guy you beat in the last election and from AOC... who's doing this undoubtedly to make you look like shit, God bless her.

I will admit that I tossed $100 into her pile for that very reason.

Cornyn is loving this, as now people will stop referencing his family brisket recipe as the worst disaster in Texas Senator PR history.

Was just about to say that the happiest dude in the state about this is Conryn, who is now firmly the state's, uh... favorite US senator.

And when Schumer votes in favor of providing Texas aid, he should publicly make Ted and everyone else remember this. And challenge Ted to a duel. If Congress had duels, a lot of this would go away. Plus, best case scenario, Cruz would be gone. Worst case, Schumer is gone. Those are odds I can live with.

This is exactly right.  @Bateshorn can probably comment here, as he has more and broader experience than I do.  But it's hard for me to imagine a more incompetent and incapable staff than Ted Cruz's.

They don't do constituent service.  They don't talk to local officials.  They barely talk to stakeholders.  They're in full-time culture-war mode.  There's never any thought to actually doing anything.

And that's really because their boss doesn't do anything other than run for president.  But guess fucking what--you're never going to be president now.

Can confirm, his staff sucks.  Every time I’ve gone in there I get a super junior staffer who is totally clueless on the issue.

Once it was with a constituent, a very senior O&G guy outta Dallas.  Fucking letter writer for the meeting, totally disinterested.

Cornyn office sent the Leg. Director, we had a wide ranging meeting, with follow up, and the his fundraiser had reached out to my Member before he flew out of DCA.

Apples and turds.

Or he puts out a statement about stable internet and power,  put 100% of the outage on renewables, then blame the liberal media for persecution, do a dig at Cuomo about nursing homes, Biden on schools, and wrap up with some light race baiting on a failed mayor or something.  Put your nuts on the table.

This shit isn’t hard.

Someone needs to explain to me what sweet burn he thinks he was getting in by agreeing to name the family dog Snowflake. I don't buy that he was oblivious to the implications given that it's his voters' favorite word.

I actually like it. It's funnier that I believed him capable of being.

Shit, remember when Ted Cruz was having it out on twitter with Ron Perlman, he tried to solve it by having Perlman wrestle Gym Jordan.  Ted would shit himself if someone challenged him to a gun duel.

He’s a piece of shit who always gets away with his bad behavior. In 2024 he’ll still get elected Senator (if he runs) again because of Texas voters short memories and of course he’ll be running against a “Socialist, anti-gun, etc., etc.” - whoever that may be, it’s the same old Republican noise. They get away with it every time.

Guys, come on, he won't vote for Ted in 2021.

But in 2024, (insert Democrat) will be a gun-grabbing socialist hell bent on killing O&G so he just HAS to vote for Cruz this time.

Not sure if it's worth anything, but as someone who voted for Cruz, I do not like this. Not one bit. I won't vote for him again, for anything.

I can confirm for you that it's worthless.

You voted for Trump twice. We know what you are.

According to this article, there was a "security man" parked in the parking lot just sitting there waiting to confront anyone who approached the house and that he was taking care of the dog.

Questions:

1.  Dog is in a freezing environment without heat.  A security guy in the driveway waiting to feed it is not the issue.

2.  Who is paying for this "security guard".  That seems expensive to hire someone to sit in your driveway for a week to watch your dog.  Is this a senatorial perk?  Are we, the tax payers, all subsidizing the Cruz's vacations?
