^^ Who are you talking to? Almost nobody on this thread kills sneks of any kind unless they’re found in our kids’ stompin grounds

Guess I'm talking to almost nobody then. Seen several pics of mutilated sneks in this thread. The coral above, for one. Maybe that neighbor who sent it to midtown was worried since it was in his backyard, though corals are notoriously shy and non-aggressive. But just call 311/animal control. I've had animal control come at 3 am and relocate a sweet possum from my shower to the great outdoors. They will come out.

Such as what?

I would have to go back and search, and this is NOT saying there are gigantic populations like the burmese python or green iguana. But there have been reports of mambas, cobras, other non native lizards and snakes like geckos, various frogs, and even things like lion fish and things. Some may have been only a few and were caught and/or died off.

Some of those may have been special cases, but not all. Florida had an issue with non native before andrew, but that hurricane really lit the bomb off.

That environment down south there can pretty much let just about anything survive. So pets that get loose, turned loose, or whatever? Up where the climate is more harsh and gets really cold, most don’t survive long. Not so much there.

It really is kind of fascinating if you get down the rabbit hole enough. Scary shit too.

Again, to be clear, not saying there is a shit ton of cobras or mambas down there. Just that they have been reported on rare occasions and that there is a really long list from their conservation department on other weird shit.

Forgive the derail but just remembered more about that possum deal.

Many years ago, and me being single, living alone. Asleep in bed and woke to hear all kinds of weird, creepy noises.Wouldn't stop. Said to cat, "CAT....cut it out.  WTF. CAT"

Roll over to see cat right next to me, looking at me. And still --weird noises. So I do that thing that everyone says only stupid as shit people would do in horror movies, but never in real life: Investigate. Eventually locate possum in the bathroom, INSIDE the stand-alone, enclosed shower.

Call 311. They're on it. Wait. Two very bored cops heard the dispatch and decide to stop by my house to make sure Everything Is Under Control (TM).  I let them in. I say, possum's in there (door's closed). Do you want to look? Nah, we're good. Come on, I say, he's right there. NOPE NAH...uh uh. These dudes were certifiably scared. To look at a possum. I noted nervous, furtive behavior regarding that possum that would lead me to have reasonable suspicion to detain them, had the tables been turned. They assured themselves Everything Was Under Control, then they left.

The animal control worker showed up and was a tough as nails woman, who got the possum in a trap and headed out with him to Bastrop where his kinfolk might be waiting.

Have you ever called the fire department because your cat was stuck in a tree?

It was in his backyard.  He has a 12 yr old son and a small dog.   He's not out hunting, setting traps and killing hordes of coral snakes.   And as far as I know they are in no way endangered.    Also since his backyard is next to mine and my house is next to my backyard and I was in my kitchen this morning...I'm lucky to be alive.

I think that covers all the kinds of venomous snakes in America, actually.

True enough, which just emphasizes that it isn't or shouldn't be hard to discern venomous from non-venomous.  The buzzworms will even help you out if you're confused.

Probably lucky they didn't splatter the possum all over your shower and blow a 12-gauge hole in the enclosure.

You call 311 for snakes and opossums. I think immamac needs to change your username

Nah have never done that for a snake, but would for a venomous one in my yard. The o-possum was just a creature I couldn't figure out how to escort out of my shower, and it worked out well with him getting a free trip to the piney woods of Bastrop. Plus my cat was real scared man, almost as scared as those cops.

I think that I would have been paranoid as to how the F***** got in there.

Few years back I walked outside at night to stretch my legs and have a smoke. As I was wandering around looking at the sky, I heard the rattle. Slowly backed up, went inside and got a flashlight. Small black-tailed rattler under a juniper bush near the driveway. Probably only had one or two buttons on his tail.

Black tails are pretty docile, as far as rattle snakes go. I'm surprised he even rattled at me, as I wasn't really that close.

After a few minutes we went our separate ways. Two ships in the night.

But I don't walk outside in the dark anymore without a flashlight anymore.

That first pic isn’t crappy. It’s pretty badass dude.

I can see why you might not like the second, but it’s still cool. That first one though, quit being so hard on yourself.

Thanks. Just prefer a more natural photo rather than me holding it. Beautiful color though.

You know what they say, a snake in the hand is better than two in the bush. Unless that is your link of course.

Went out to Snek Rd. Only saw this dead yellow-bellied racer. Looked to be about a tween as it still had some juvenile markings.

Then stopped at one of the flip spots. Hasn’t produced anything for awhile. But I spotted another Racer. When I flipped the tin it took off like racers do. No chance to grab it.

and now old lady customer has a plague of frogs.

I hate stupid and ignorant people. My wife came home from work the other day and said that a coworker (an older Chinese woman) was looking under her car in the parking lot. They apparently saw a deadly snake slither underneath. Well the snake crawled up into the undercarriage and went home with the lady. Her husband killed it. A rat snake.

The climbers-and-hiders almost always are.

I think the kids would say "real revognize real" or something like that.  Now if only someone would pay me $130k a year plus benefits to drive around and help snakes.

I’m off today. Thanks for the call. I see how it is, glory hound. I’m gonna go out there tonight and catch a metric fuckton of greens...and not tell you where I caught them (not that you don’t already know).

Shit, I could be there with you and you would still find a ton and I wouldn't see any.

This guy was hanging out on the bullrushes.  After looking at some pictures, my guess is a Mississippi green watersnake?

There was a marsh wren hopping around freaking out and fussing at it.  I don't know if she had a nest in there somewhere or just didn't like sneks.
