I just asked for clarity, which you provided, and disputed a couple of the examples you used. I don't remember saying you were wasting our time, and I don't see much thread policing going on with any of us except for running over Greenspoint, and backing up, and running over him again, from all sides. So, yeah, you seem a bit high strung right now.

To your actual point, I guess I don't agree fully. If your point was the AD doesn't care as much about winning as we'd like to believe, I'm with you, but you're conflating the fanbase with the AD. Dodds figured out that he was going to be rewarded by the administration and big money if he was creating enough revenue to build whatever we wanted within the org. Somewhere along the way, the importance of revenue and political handholding took priority over winning, which empowered someone like Plonsky to become the insipid monster that she became. The serendipitous hiring of the trio of Garrido, Brown, and Barnes in a single year's time ended up being appropriate salves for the wounded fanbase by the late 90's, which cannot be ignored when you reference "35+ years". There's a pretty big break in the middle there, where we won as much as damned near anyone for about 12-15 years.

That doesn't translate into the fanbase or alums being content to wallow in mediocrity in the big 3 sports into perpetuity by 2020. Texas is doing what any school should be doing when it comes to losing. Rinse and repeat on the coaching front until you find the right guy, and do so relentlessly. Recruiting cannot cover for bad coaching. Neither can revenue or ratings. Other schools face these same problems and hiring the right guy constantly proves harder than it has to be at most places not named Ohio State. Bama wandered in the wilderness for separate 10+ year stretches. USC, Michigan, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Nebraska, so on and so forth. Miami had a fortuitous run that ended. OU has done better than most, Gibbs/Schnelly/Blake now far in the rear view. OSU has done so well for 80+ years that it's enviable on any level. Everybody else deals with the same shit, and it's not because fanbases don't care.

This made me laugh.  I guess you could say Greenspoint would, in the literal sense, need a well paid nurse in this instance.

That's lazy. After the first 3 seasons and these 4 games you would not be surprised? GTFO. You fear that scenario and all of us would be very surprised to see Tom lead an 6-0 run over the best-shitty teams of our conference.

Considering 6 wins is his longest streak during his time at Texas, I would call winning the next 6 a very high hurdle indeed.

Every single one of the last six games will be one score games. Herman's teams always end up in one score games and lack the discipline to win them all. They will go 4-2 and 3-3 and we will have another four or five loss season and finish in the middle of the pack unless we have another 1994 SWC on our hands and there is a four or five way tie for first place or something.

We all know how this is going to go.

Go ballgame yourself.

I don't really understand that take by Greenspoint.

Sure Urban is no saint but it is not like Florida and Utah are considered rogue programs because they had him as head coach. Ohio State's reputation remains un-altered.

It is not like he is Briles or Paterno or something like that. He is just a ruthless competitor.

But I guess I admit it is not like I have followed him closely at any of those stops.

You mean aside from instructing the coaches the expectations dating back to the summer and personally laying out those instructions in a team meeting just last week while the head coach sits in a corner sucking his thumb

JFC dude, what are you even arguing about? Are you pissy that I told you it was stupid to say that players who tweet about social media issues don't have time to study film in the other thread so you are going to take a hard line stance against my controversial opinion that the athletic director is accountable for what happens in his athletic department and needs to get this shit under control?

I don't laugh at Alabama because of a lack of morals.

I laugh because our football program is not even in the same fucking zip code as Alabama's.  Unlimited resources and talent pool yet it's not even close.  It's essentially a varsity and JV comparison. Maybe worse.   And that's an unbridled travesty.

There is transparency at Bama. The players getting over-recruited and greyshirted know how it works. They are just confident enough to think they can make it anyway and desperate to play for Alabama.

I wish we had top high school players lining up to probably not receive a scholarship in a desperate attempt to play for us.

I hate Alabama so much. Those fucking assholes and their excellence and consistent championship football. Every cell in my black jealous heart burns with a blind passionate hate for all they do. I wish we could be like them.

Lol ok.

Unless the NFL comes calling I don't see him leaving anytime soon. Now that the program has been dragged out of the depths it's literally one of the easiest jobs in the country. It's like if Miami or USC was in a G5 conference. And money should quickly become a non-factor.

Maybe I'm wrong but I haven't seen anything over the past few months to suggest otherwise. And I'm not saying he wouldn't take the Texas job if offered - just that that ship might sail at somepoint.

Goddamnit no you did NOT post the above?!?!

So when Rocko was bragging about his Vette, had you already leased your 3 series?  They’re really cute for nurses. Do you live in Addison?

Nah. He drives a corolla with racing stripes and a spoiler.

You know, one of the sporty new ones that are the rage with all the RNs these days.

The added bonus here is that Urban either has enough general disdain for Tom Herman or loose moral fiber to negotiate terms (maybe) on a job that is not even open yet.

Urban and CDC will not have a conversation until Herman is out, but by the time it comes to that then cake will only need 5 more minutes in the oven anyway.

Urban talks to agent. Agent talks to booster. Booster talks to CDC.

Such is the way of things.

Has Herman had a mental break ?  What the fuck, over ?

Apparently Bluemoon3287 thinks he's on his kid's walkie talkies.

But if we don't fire him then Strong's former players will say we are racist for not holding Tom to the same standards we held Chuck. So no big deal.

16-21, 2 losing seasons, 0-1 in bowl games

vs

27-17, no losing seasons (yet), 3-0 in bowl games

No, we are in a different territory here.  Still not acceptable, but Charlie earned his early exit.

This wasn’t supposed to be a rebuilding year. If this is the peak of Tom Herman football I fear what our rebuilding year will look like. 8 losses I’m guessing

we replaced almost the entire staff. by definition, we had to 'rebuild'. i still can't believe CDC let him do that. what a fuckwad.

Herman's team is going to trash Texas over The Eyes debacle after he is fired.  "Tom was just trying to have his players' backs over the racist Texas song and Texas fired him in response!"

Herman and his team will almost certainly try to frame it this way. On the bright side it's pretty likely that all of Herman's current players hate his guts and won't exactly rush to defend him to the media so that will undercut the message somewhat. No matter who the next head coaching hire is I'm expecting our players to be throwing a ton of shade towards Tom whenever it's finally all over.

To clarify: Herman and his PR/agent or whatever. Not "team" like the players

They didn't replace near the entire staff... and even when you bring in new coordinators, if the players are good and well coached enough to begin with, you don't fall down like this, and it's not a rebuild.

Bama replaced their two coordinators last year, and no one said they were rebuilding.

I see the following as difficult to disprove:

1. College Football is better (Nationally) when Texas is good.

2. Big 12 NEEDS Texas to be good in order to be relevant.

3. There is a general respect for Texas on a national scale, but also a general disdain. The respect is diminishing.

So in summary, many out there need us to be good so that they can hate us. If we can hire Urban Meyer we have the best chance to give them what they want on both fronts.

Texas sucking ass didn't hurt OU's chancing of getting into the playoffs and being a national brand the last 10 years.

Very painful to type the above. I now have the sads

OU has their own name brand to trade from.  But the rest of the conference needs both Texas and OU to be good.
