Gerry Hamilton's list of top replacement candidates

I don’t think I’ve seen Mark Stoops on any list yet.  Guy can flat out coach, but doubt he would come here.  He is my new Mullen, a good coach over performing at a typical doormat.  Not sure he would win national titles, but he would win a conference title or 2 here.

Could be wrong. But Urban won’t be as expensive as we think. And, again, I could be embarrassingly wrong. Just have a hunch...

How awesome would it be to sign Urban for $7.4m/yr UNguaranteed and watch him kick aggy's ass in recruiting every year?

Nah.  Bill O'Brien would just cut Sam and then replace The Eyes with a mandatory viewing of Birth of a Nation after every game.

BoB when he was the  HC would just trot JJ Watt out there over and over and over and the Mcnairs would applaud and all be be right and there would be light. To be fair, I have never seen a team waste talent like the Texans. In my football watching life. Browns and Bengals are a close one. But in terms of wasting JJ Watt. See his brother and the other one? Holy shit!

To what end? I’m just kinda done with fake news and conspiracy theories. You can coach or you can’t. If it’s a black QB thing, Watson has more talent and character in his pinky finger than the dumbass McNairs.  A coach is always looking for his next job (set money or not) ego does apply. And the last thing BoB wants on his coaching tombstone is “hey I traded Hopkins for a bud light!” And btw Texans have no number one or two picks in the draft next year bc I dealt them. He looks sketchy and a dumbass mark. A mark to anyone savvy enough to understand the draft. That is how dum the McNair family is. They hired BoB

Saw Clem on the way back to the airport. Guy's still flying the Texas flag. How old must be be now? He's got to be well into 3 digits now.

I came to this board in need of Herman firing scoops and hot takes. Instead I find pay stubs for insecure male nurses and the subsequent destruction his hopes and dreams. Here's my contribution:

According to few weeks of conversation I had with a friendly St David's nurse, she said the male RNs try to be bossy but immediately turn submissive when proven wrong, and they often are wrong. She also noted that a few always try to show off their tattoos and talk about their 'sport cars.' Funny enough I met one at a Covid BBQ when I was this gals date over the summer, he drove an impreza with a spoiler. Great resale value apparently, hah. Taller nurses are married apparently. Under 6'. Not a chance. He was prob 5'5".

Anyways nurses are glorified pooper scoopers unless you work your way into a PA or NA position, or anything else surgical.

In case more folks are looking for names in CDC's history, here is his bio from TexasSports and a listing of where he has been:

  • TCU - 09+
  • Rice (06-09)
  • Arizona (00-06)
  • Washington State (98-99)
  • Cal Poly (94-98)

Undergrad at UC Santa Barbara and Masters from Washington State (because this seems like the kind of convoluted shit that IT may somehow tie a person to "they were both at UC Santa Barbara together")

Spoiler

University of Texas Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte is a proven, well-regarded and nationally recognized athletics administrator who has a long history of leading highly-successful athletic departments. In his second year at UT and 14th year as an athletics director overall, Del Conte has strong ties to the Lone Star State, having spent a dozen years at TCU and Rice before taking over leadership of Texas Athletics on December 9, 2017. His 28 years of experience as a collegiate administrator are wide-ranging and far-reaching with previous stops at Arizona, Washington State and Cal Poly.

During his time at UT, Del Conte has spearheaded a number of projects designed to keep Texas at the forefront of college athletics. The biggest of these enhancements so far is a $175 million renovation to the South End Zone of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, which broke ground in May 2019. The new design will bring renovations to the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center, expand amenities for student-athletes and enhance the coaches offices, along with providing a number of improvements and additions to gameday fan experiences. The Longhorns also have renovation and enhancement projects underway for Baseball, Basketball, Softball and Swimming & Diving.

Improving the gameday experience of Texas Athletics has been another key initiative of Del Conte’s since his arrival in Austin and the implementation of Bevo Blvd. and Longhorn City Limits under his watch have been highly successful features around football games. Beginning with the 2018 football season, Bevo Blvd. provided a new feel to the west exterior of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium as San Jacinto Blvd. was completely transformed into the action-filled pregame street party that provides Texas-sized fun for Longhorn fans of all ages. The Longhorn City Limits Stage on the LBJ Lawn is another exciting game day venue and attracts some of our countries top performers.

Del Conte’s vision has helped keep Texas on the cutting edge of modern trends in terms of facility upgrades and unique gameday experiences, but he has also sought to showcase the rich tradition that the University’s athletics programs boast.

To do so, Del Conte helped UT complete plans for its first-ever Hall of Fame, which was designed to tell the story of Texas Athletics from the vintage days of its first football team in 1893 to what is now one of the nation’s premier athletics programs. The Frank Denius Family University of Texas Hall of Fame, which is located in the Red McCombs Red Zone inside the north end of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, opened its doors on Aug. 30 and features visual and digital displays honoring the 55 National Championship teams, nearly 600 conference titles, hundreds of individual national champions, more than 2,500 All-Americans and hundreds Olympians, as well as the traditions and tales that encompass the history of Longhorns Athletics.

Texas has also had tremendous success across the board in all of its sports under Del Conte’s leadership. In 2018-19, the Longhorns finished fourth in the Learfield IMG College Director’s Cup standings, their highest finish in the national all-sports rankings since 2005-06. During last year’s sports seasons, the Longhorns won one NCAA team title (Men’s Tennis) and registered four top-2, seven top-5 and 11 top-10 NCAA Championship team finishes. UT’s four top-2 finishes mark its most in an academic year since 1993-94, the seven top-5 finishes are the most for the Horns in more than a decade (since 2008-09) and the football team’s No. 9 final ranking was its best since 2009. Texas also claimed a Big 12-best nine conference titles. That came one year after the Longhorns registered a fifth-place ranking in the 2017-18 Director’s Cup standings. Del Conte was on board for the spring portion of that academic year, as UT concluded ’17-18 with one NCAA team title (Men’s Swimming & Diving), four top-5 and 10 top-10 NCAA Championship team finishes and eight Big 12 Championships. All totaled, Del Conte has seen the Longhorns win two NCAA team titles, post 11 top-5 and 21 top-10 NCAA Championship team finishes and capture 17 Big 12 Championships in his two years at Texas.

Before coming to Austin, Del Conte served as director of intercollegiate athletics at Texas Christian University for eight years and was nationally recognized for developing winning programs, upgrading facilities, improving the fan experience and helping student-athletes excel on and off the field.

During his time at TCU, Del Conte oversaw a series of historic moments for TCU Athletics that included the Horned Frogs' July 1, 2012 entrance into the Big 12 Conference. He oversaw nationally competitive teams in football and other sports and upgraded facilities for football, basketball, baseball, track and field and volleyball, among other sports. He also increased donations to the athletics department in record-setting fashion, helped guide TCU’s student-athletes to the top-three cumulative grade-point averages in program history during his final three semesters and hired several world-class coaches.

Del Conte was the recipient of a 2015 NACDA Under Armour AD of the Year Award and the 2010 Bobby Dodd Division I-A Athletic Director's Award. In February 2015, he was named to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Committee.

During his tenure as Athletics Director at Rice (2006-09), Del Conte had responsibility for 16 intercollegiate programs, 350 student-athletes, along with coaches and staff. Del Conte also designed, developed and managed the Rice Vision for the Second Century Campaign, which raised over $90 million. The Second Century Campaign included athletic facilities such as the Tudor Fieldhouse and Youngkin Center for Student-Athlete Excellence as well as upgrades to the football stadium. Del Conte also secured a marketing sponsorship and broadcast rights contract for Rice and maintained a focus on student-athlete academic achievement, resulting in numerous public recognition awards from the NCAA for the academic progress rate of student-athletes.

Prior to Rice, Del Conte was the senior associate athletics director for external operations and sports programs at the University of Arizona (2000-06). In that role, Del Conte had responsibility for the planning, management and oversight of the day-to-day operation for the department of intercollegiate athletics. He also functioned as the chief financial officer; managed external operations; had oversight and management of all contracts, ticket sales, broadcast rights fees, corporate sponsorships, and trademarks and licensing; and oversight of all facility construction.

Del Conte also served as an assistant athletics director for external operations at both Washington State (1998-99) and Cal Poly (1994-98).

Del Conte received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from UC Santa Barbara, where he was a track and field student-athlete, and a master's degree in education, administration and supervision from Washington State.

Del Conte is married to Dr. Robin Ward and has two daughters, Sienna and Sophia.

For what it's worth, the full overlap between Franklin and CDC appears to be the 1 year Franklin was a TE Coach at Washington State (1998) when CDC was the Assistant AD for External Operations.

Yeah, Urban Meyer who has literally 30+ years of coaching experience at the College Level and 0 at the NFL level is going to suddenly make the jump at age 56!

I don't think that's correct /Norm

I can’t decide whether there’s anything to the stuff I’m hearing but it’s certainly not coming from the UT side. One of the things going on is that the (now adult, I believe?) daughters do not want him to return to coaching.

I have two daughters that I love dearly and they are both as alpha as it gets, and I can’t fathom either or both of them convincing me not to do something I know I damned well that I want to do. Who knows though?

Just from what I’ve heard that’s publicly available from people in the media (Matt Leinart, Heather Dinich, etc) this seems like it will be the most likely reason if we don’t get Urban. I have long rolled my eyes about Urban’s “health concerns” but there may be something to them. The guy has always looked completely miserable and stressed out while he is coaching and that’s got to take a toll on you. I can definitely see how he may think that he now is living the good life with his family, and not want to jump back into the volcano. He may look at the example of Bill Cowher and think that’s not so bad. Of course, I have never been driven to achieve at the high levels that he has, so I can’t speak to how that drive would override concerns for a more stress free work-life balance. If he does want the chance at winning a MNC at 3rd school and cementing his place in history, coming to Texas at this time would be one of his last best opportunities for it.

Urban's brain cyst is real and stress makes it worse.  His family doesn't want him to coach again due to the stress.  I think this opportunity is presenting itself a year or two earlier than the ideal timing given that he has been retired from coaching for less than two years.  The family opposition may wane with time.

All of that said, I would not be shocked if Urban takes the job as it may be the best opening in college football in the next five years.  If he has decided he is going to coach again, he might as well take the prime opportunity when it is available.  He absolutely would extract maximum compensation from Texas and any thoughts to the contrary are absurd.  He will require at least $15 million per year for him and his coaching staff plus a few million more for his administrative staff.  This is likely his last opportunity to take care of everyone close to him and it will take some cash premiums to pry his desired targets from their current positions.  Texas is desperate and he has extraordinary leverage.

If the first and third part are true - why is he demanding less than the Alabama, Clemson, and aggy staffs currently get?

What is Texas' maximum compensation package?  I and you have no idea, but it better be competitive with the top end and $15 million is.

The bottom line is that Urban isn't going to give Texas a deal as has been suggested a few times on this thread.

I haven’t really seen any discount talk.  Urban may not cost a lot more than some of the other alternatives as there is no buyout and he’d possibly keep four of the coaches.

You’re still looking at paying 8-10 million annually.

bucky just now said all you’re getting out Herman is excuses whether it’s covid, which effected everyone, new coaches, and etc. the reason he has 7 new coaches is because of Herman himself.

and how dumb Herman says yes seeing great things from the team but no one else has

basically compared Herman to aggy as well about moral victories and celebrating almost being there.
