Question-I have Hulu live @ 55 a month, barely use the live especially with no sports...does my Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ Hulu get me into app log ins for certain channels? Or do I need a “ live” account to use those apps?

looks like you do have TV Everywhere access as long as you have Hlue + Live TV

here is a link that outlines some specific options/channels: https://help.hulu.com/s/article/tv-everywhere?language=en_US

here is the same TV Everywhere list for YTTV in case folks were curious: https://support.google.com/youtubetv/answer/7556177?hl=en

This turned out to be HP. We’ve found other content that sounds great.

I cannot fucking hear Midway until the volume is at 65. Normally it’s at 15 and worked fine for Perry Mason

That is just an app, so no.

Really? I had no idea a piece of software inside of a television set is just an app, while an Amazon Fire TV is a box. Thanks for that wonderful clarification. Now I fully understand the different functionality.

Depends on the TV.

I would guess, however, that an Amazon service on an Amazon device has the maximum functionality of any version of the software.

I would suspect that a TV mfrs' "app" will have some of the least functionality. The TV apps, generally speaking, are kinda shitty in my observation.

That said, my several-year-old Sony has I'd guess 80% of the functionality of the Android app.  Like when you pause, the names and photos of the actors on screen come up from imdb, as they would if you touch the screen on the Android app, but you can't click on the pic and get the imdb bio obviously.  It has a look and feel similar to the Android/website, also.  But it seems to crash with fair regularity, especially after more than an hour or two of watch..

Does the Amazon Prime built into new tv’s have the same functionality as the Amazon Fire TV box?

I have it on my Insignia tv.  It seems to work the same as my firetv stick, but my stick is an older gen, so it is slower.

Wish the TV remote had more buttons though.  I don't understand the minimal remote trend.

My Uverse is coming up for renewal and am wondering whether they will want to switch me to AT&T TV. Anyone had any experience with AT&T TV yet and how it compares to Uverse and cord cutting options? We are yet again at a decision point on cutting the cord. The last time I looked a year ago, it financially didn't make sense for us because I was able to get a very unusual discount from AT&T because of problems with wifi, that I've since solved myself with a new third party wifi router.

I lose that remote all the time under my fat ass or somewhere. I wish they at least had backlit buttons. I need to look into a better option for a remote. I do like the voice control.

So, a lot of the apps, like ESPN, HBOGO, etc. seem to broadcast in 4K, but YTTV doesn't. Does that mean I could just watch a live game on ESPN in 4K with my YTTV account, but on the ESPN app, instead of the YTTV live? Would I just use my Google/YTTV account sign in to access that, then the broadcast resolution would be better? That may be a dumb question.

I just switched from U-verse to yttv because I couldn’t get them to drop the price enough. The only thing I will miss is att sports and longhorn network

No idea about att tv but if it’s like direct tv now was it sucks. Don’t you need their boxes as well for that? If so, just get rokus, fire sticks, Apple TV or something and go with yttv, Hulu or some others streaming service. Try the free trials and see what you want. Screw renting boxes

Follow up from additional research. Att TV is such a goat F*ck. They force you to sign up to a two year contract BUT only guarantee the rate for 12 months, giving them complete freedom to charge you “the prevailing rate” the second year. It’s unbelievable. We should all drop every AT&T product immediately and make a dent in this oligopoly.

Fuck AppleTV in its goat ass. Since I signed up just to watch Greyhound I decided to watch some of their series. I watched the commies land on the moon and liked that. I just started watching the morning show and I like that, but why can’t Apple get its shit together technically. I stream in a Roku and it never fails that after I watch 1 or 2 episodes that the next episode will fail to load and I just keep getting a video unavailable error message. Nothing I try seems to be able to clear it except waiting a day or two. Apparently this is a fairly common occurrence with its users. If I was paying for this shit I’d be even madder. So fuck Apple in Job’s ass

Suspect that if you were using an Apple box to watch things would work just fine... they don’t play well with others.

At least the new FireTV 4k sticks have tvpower and volume.  That's been fantastic and such an obvious thing.  It's nuts that that wasn't there from the get go.  The only other thing it needs is a feature to find it because ours disappear more than my wife's purse or cell phone.

I wouldn’t sign a contract like that, or at least I would accept the termination fee as a strong possibility after year 1. Realistically they’re not going to double the rate after year 1 but I’m sure there’s an increase.

Same with YTTV and your phone and casting to a smart TV.

I have friends with 2nd homes that fail to see that point. Now maybe they don't mind paying for 2 cable services. 1st world problems. Some don't even care that they can probably stream a large percent via the primary cable subscription but good for them that they don't mind throwing away $125/mo. For me, its more of a game to keep as much of my money as I can without being cheap.

I’ve always wondered how a tv hasn’t come in with a built in 100 mi range antenna. That shit would sell so much

In my experience the mechanics of the TV interfere with the signal - I've had to get the antenna up/away from the TV to get clear signals. So, I don't think an integrated/built in antenna would work too well for most people.

Also, a lot of newer TV’s are as cheap as they are by completely removing the tuner. I’ve been told it is due to import taxes on TV’s vs tuner free displays. My 70” Vizio I bought 3 years ago doesn’t have one, and I had to buy an external box to connect an antenna. (HDHomerun channeled into Plex is the shit if anyone cares. Only need one antenna on the roof/attic, and all the TV’s and phones/tablets/laptops for that matter can access the over the air stuff, plus acts as a DVR).

I’m trying Fubo on the free trial mainly for Astros baseball. It’s adding ABC local, the ESPNs and disney channels in early August. With those additions I might drop YTTV as my main service. Is anyone using Fubo as their primary service? The DVR function maxes out at 500 hours compared to unlimited on YTTV. YTTV has all of the Showtime and Starz stations so that’s a plus.

I'm curious abou Fubo as well. I looked at them last year when they marketed themselves as the streaming solution for the sports fan. But at the time, they didn't have any of the ESPN stations which is insane for the supposed sports fan streaming service. I think I'll start a porn site that promises all the porn you want, but not show any penetration.

Finally cut the Directv cord.  Our bill had gone up to $170.  I called a couple of times to lower it to no avail.  First person wanted to go through every GD tv channel to see if I could lower my rate by going to a lower package.  I finally hung up.  Second person did the same except with a twist.  She tried to convince me to go to a cheaper package by cutting the sports channels because, "If you didn't know, sports aren't really going on right now".

I went from $170 to $60 (yttv).  Plus, we're getting ready to buy an RV and this option will be cheaper than having to buy RV-specific satellite equipment.  I did lose LHN; however, at this point, that doesn't bother me much.  I rarely watch anything other than actual games.  If it's important enough to watch, I'll find a stream.

By most accounts I see, it is really good, especially for sports watchers like us.But I assume they will be raising their prices by a good chunk once they add ABC, ESPN and Disney.

Realized yesterday trying to watch the Dallas Stars game in Houston than YTTV never got FSSW back in Houston area... on to trying Hulu now.  Getting to be a pain in the ass to keep switching just to try and keep the channels I started with.

Try Fubo. 7 day free trial. $65 per month.

I'm not seeing Fox Sports Southwest as a "channel available in your area".  Is it available in Houston?

Nevermind. Fubo carries two ATT Sportsnet channels. I thought one was for Dallas teams but I see they still use Fox Sports SW. Fubo is a solution for watching the Astros and Rockets.

I'm having issues streaming NBA League Pass through Prime on my Amazon fireTV. Only on my big screen - I have Fire TVs on my smaller side TVs and it streams fine there. I'm not sure if I have a bad device, or if it's something to do with the processing speed in the device and the projector. The projector is only a couple of years old. I also had issues streaming Twitch from the app on the big screen. Maybe I need to try the Cube.
