The GQP: Trumpist Death Cult

He'll be so dementia addled by 2024 they won't be able to put him in front of a live audience. His whole campaign will be 30 second commercials and printed statements. No debates, no public appearances other than waiving from balconies. He'll still get the nomination, and 40% of America will vote for him.

If he’s still alive, he will run again in ‘24. He’s a narcissist and a grifter and he’s discovered that fools will give him money for being a fake politician. He’s not going to do that for anyone else. His entire worldview is, “Me! Me! Me!” He’s not going to step back and be a “king maker” because he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. (Other than desperately wanting to get into Ivanka’s panties.)

Vladimir Putin is his hero. What would Putin do? That’s what Trump will do. It’s not complicated.

i'm not completely convinced it would even work.  he's tried several times to stand next to a candidate and tell people to vote for them.  they lose more than they win.

Assuming the Dems turn out matches 2020, which it won’t.  This doesn’t end for a decade at least. And that’s best case if the Dems continue to win.

Doesn't have to work, can golf, have whoever he wants kiss his ring, have millions of ignorant followers believe his every word and false lies/conspiracy theories, and, send him millions of dollars on top of it. Why would he want to be President again? But, at some point, he's going to have to say yes or no to running again. Which means he would actually have to do something. I see now how Hitler was able to control and manipulate a large group of believers into doing what he wanted, no matter how evil, and them not feel guilty about it.

Fear. These so called Christians have lost their souls. History and made for TV movies will not be kind.

Definitely. It's working on a larger part of the population than I would've expected. The GQP is/are going to attempt to form coalitions with other groups because they don't have the numbers and while doing it through quasi-legal means is the way they would prefer--voter suppression, not certifying valid Democratic candidates who win, tossing out ballots, intimidation at the polls through various means, the way forward they find perfectly and willingly acceptable is to seize power through violence.

They began with the Tea Party which was a small indication, but realized some found it distasteful and thus like the white supremacist groups who rebranded after Charlottesville, they became the Freedom Caucus and with the takeover, the metamorphosis  is complete and they are the GQP but will likely bring forth the America First platform (to bring aboard the corporate, the slightly less extremist, the people who find the outward racism a little too uncomfortable, etc).

Someone like Lauren Boebert, Greene, Cawthorne, et al are only an outward visible manifestation of that; the rest are also fine with it as well.

Claw back as many of the numbers of people revolted by January 6th and grab all the young and disenfranchised voters and drive turnout. Get people registered. The Republicans are doing that (for all I know it's so they can switch votes), but getting people to wake up to the danger will be difficult.

While I agree he liked the rallies, he could be hosting rallies near Mar-a-Lago right now if he really wanted to. He could be holding them at/near his properties, and leverage the rallies to fill their coffers. He could probably funnel his PAC money in through that as well.

Yep. He really does not want Congress and the states digging through his shit any more than they already have.

2 hours ago, Brandywine said:

Keeping his "empire" intact, making money, avoiding criminal prosecution. It's probably easier for him to do all of that if he's out of office, but has somebody in office who can protect him (pardons).

And the state investigations will probably wrap up well before any potential WH run in 2024.

And there's a wild card - if the state investigations really hammer him, a Republican could easily smell blood in the water and go after him. Many Republican lawmakers actually don't give a shit about Trump, outside of the influence he has with his base, and there is a tipping point where he is a liability (outside of his already losing the House, Senate, and WH).

I don't think most of the Republican politicians are thinking along those lines/that far ahead.  Right now, they are operating in a mode of "keep Trump from crtiticizing me". MTG, etc. are not the majority - the majority of Rs in Congress want to stay out of Trump's crosshairs, and keep their BMDs happy, and win their next election. In fact, an armed coup fucks with the BMDs' ability to do what they want to do.

Trump was trying to get the military involved and they were making it clear they won't go there.  John Roberts isn't going to swear in Cletus because Cletus led an armed group that killed people in Congress, and the Pentagon would react negatively to Cletus trying to claim the White House for himself.

Just because many Republican legislators kiss Trump's ring, doesn't mean they go along with him.

And the American public does not have the stomach for what that would entail - for all of the talk about civil war, it's all bullshit.  A shit-ton of Texans now understood just how fragile things like their power grid were, without the notion of armed insurrectionists taking out power plants. People on the East Coast are discovering that one pipeline can bring their part of the US to a crawl.

I would even argue that if a full-blown coup was going to happen, this past year was the perfect chance.  You had Donald Trump, who would actually go there.  You had Republicans still controlling the Senate. You had the pandemic which allowed the feds and states lots of chances to do things like restrict movement. But it didn't happen.

If the nutters were 100% on the coup train, a shitload of them would have been armed on January 6th at the Capitol, or they would have shown up shortly thereafter as things played out on TV.  They had their chance. They had plenty of prep time. Instead, a small number had firearms at their hotels/in their trucks, but they chickened out.

Fear of Trump is driving the GOP.  Kevin McCarthy embodies that - he came out and criticized Trump after 1/6, then turned around and changed his tune and after his meeting with Trump, Trump is now Jesus in his eyes.

I disagree and the former rep who remarked that McCarthy was interested only in power was on the money. Speaking of money....

The indicators for inflation are increasing and at a most inopportune time. That fear (among voters) will make the US very vulnerable to those that exploit that fear. You saw that this week with the misinformation regarding Colonial and the pipeline being shut down. The supply was adequate, the PRIVATE company took the pipeline offline as a safety measure due to the attack and yet the airwaves were filled with fear mongering and gas runs. Does not bode well. Also shows we (the public) are super stupid at playing it cool so foreign enemies don't see what makes us do stupid stuff, but they already knew anyway because Americans can't keep a secret to save our lives.

Big PP. Good for you.  Not aimed at you or those of us who ate it as a staple when growing up (I grew up in a military family - where one had to stretch a dollar).

It's the continuation of an old battle of twits from hornfans.

I make a very good salisbury steak recipe that the family loves. Sometimes I make it only with onions in the gravy, but sometimes I cook mushrooms too. Not in the summer, though. I like to cook light in the summer.

Inflation fears can drive actual inflation - good point.

We are seeing supply chain breakdowns as the economy begins to ramp. It was expected by the Fed. Based on today's numbers, we should see a rise in the Fed Rate in late 2022/early 2023.

I will come back to this thread periodically to state one fact.  It took Hitler two tries to take over Germany. The second time he had the brownshirts, not unlike the group he inspired to storm the Capitol.  It's impossible not to notice the racist tendencies of Trumps most fervent supporters.

History often does repeat itself.  Let us hope that more and more citizens rather than fewer and fewer citizens vote.  If not, I can see no logical argument to believe the GOP would not allow for a 3rd, 4th or even 5th Trump term.

McCarthy only has power if he's in office, and is the Speaker.

If he goes against Trump, he gets primaried.

If the Republicans in the House go against Trump (such as Liz), they get primaried, and it hurts them in the general election, and Kevin doesn't get the Speaker's gavel.

If somebody like Liz breaks off even a single digit percentage of House Republicans from supporting Trump, they could get primaried by Trump and Co., and Kevin doesn't get the Speaker's gavel.  He had to rein her in by yanking her position as an example to other Rs.

This is not much different than anything Newt did in the 90s.

Are there Republicans in Congress who don't care about the Constitution and would go down that fascist road in a heartbeat? Absolutely, and they do nothing to hide it, outside of dressing it up ("we're just trying to ensure that the elections are fair and secure!").

But most in Congress just want to win their next reelection (or election if they are running for something else) and keep their BMDs happy.

A whole lot more Republicans are pretending to care about Trump than you think, and just biding their time until he goes away. Look at the fake praise heaped on Nailin' Palin.

A lot of people do not realize that Trump really doesn't give a shit about the GOP.  It's a means to an end for him.  He was a Democrat when it benefitted his businesses in NY, FL, etc., and he switched when it benefitted him.  And don't think for one instant that many Republicans in Congress don't feel the same way about Trump - they tolerate him because of his base.

Trump is a helluva nuisance to a lot of Republicans in Congress, simply because he's upending their established practices with donations, BMDs, etc. and trying to stick his preferred candidates and people in where the establishment Republicans don't want them.  He wants his people running the RNC and the GOP, and running the financial side.

Most importantly, Trump is trying to directly siphon money away from the GOP through his PACs.  A lot of people don't realize how much of a threat Trump's actions to siphon that money off is to down-ballot Republicans.

Trump wants that money, and gives no shits if that hurts Republicans.

Hell, I'd argue that it's in his nature to try and take over the GOP and strip it clean.

Trump is lazy and wants money.  The easiest way to exert any power is to simply threaten to primary anybody who crosses him.

The easiest way for him to bring in money is not campaigning and rallies (which cost him money up front, such as fixing his jet and traveling), but to let his PACs handle it and to siphon it from the GOP/RNC.

And speaking of being seen as a loser, does he really want to run the risk of losing again?
