Snowpiercer, and yeah it's good.  Fans of Mad Max 3 will appreciate the premise and tone...or criticize it for being just a knockoff if it.  My one quibble is:

Spoiler

The gun fight when the train was going around the loop.  Chris Kyle couldn't make a shot like that.  Dumb

Yeah, but he'd claim he did.

Jade- really poorly made movie in one of my favorite genres from a highly regarded director and screenwriter. Not sure what happened here. Chunks of this felt like it was made by a high school film student. Yikes. 3/10

Did they focus on her lack of Chili cooking skills?

Just watched Stowaway on Netflix.  Horrible this movie was.  It was so bad it made me consider cancelling Netflix.  Highly recommend not watching it.

Damn why didn't I check here first. The only positive thing about the film was the joy I felt giving it a thumbs down. So so terrible.

Other than the lovely Miss Halle Berry, Miss Kristy Swanson & Miss Joey Lauren Adams this movie did not age very well.

Lol.. Joe Kane was like 32 years old when they made the movie. Also, for him being such a badass Heisman candidate, all they did was run screen plays to their freshman RB who fumbled a lot. I think one of the biggest problems of The Program is James Caan seemed to have mailed it in. His role done properly would have carried the movie for decades, but it’s pretty blah. That said, flawed or not, I love the shit out of The Program and will watch it any time it’s on.

A League of Their Own with the kids. Just a classic 90s movie. And as much heat as Rosie O’Donnell gets she was great, as was the rest of the cast. The kids loved it.

That's one of the most perfect movies ever made and I will fight you about that.

Literally the only bad scene was when Dottie's husband just showed up out of nowhere.

Fanny and Alexander- revisited The Seventh Seal awhile back after watching it about a decade ago, and didn't feel like it held up. Fanny and Alexander, Bergman's magnum opus, however does hold up. At over three hours long, this can be a difficult watch in one sitting, but the director elegantly mixed in the best of his abilities into this lush and magical family drama period piece that touches on the themes he explores across his filmography. 10/10

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage- didn't think this giallo was anything special, although it appears to have a big following. I liked Blood and Black Lace much more. 6.5/10

Scanners- the strong parts more than make up for the flaws (poor acting, noticeable over-dubbing) in this cult sci-fi/horror. Strong directing and storytelling, but the budgeting and acting probably kept this one from being great. 7.5/10

Never understood how anyone could put it below Major League in their baseball movie rankings, it's far superior than ML.

Major League is seriously close to the bottom of my baseball movie rankings.  It's so incredibly cliched and full of guys who look like they've never played baseball.  (Hell, in all seriousness, Madonna looks like a better baseball player than Corbin Bernsen.)  It has its moments and is definitely watchable, but I shake my head whenever I see people say it's their favorite baseball movie.

Because it's fucking hilarious. GTFO with any hate for Major League.

Greenland. Was def a realistic portrayal of how society would break down prior to an ELE.  The science was iffy - and not enough disaster porn. Deep Impact did that better

Hell, even 2012 did it better. Day After Tomorrow would be a best picture candidate next to Greenland. Not that I was expecting much, but it was quickly obvious they weren't gonna stretch the CGI budget. Lots of distant shots of destruction, like it would be playing on a little TV in the room. I fast-forwarded through almost all dialogue after the first 30 minutes or so

Recently went on an old movie watching binge.

On an Island with You released in 1948 starring Esther Williams with Peter Lawford, Ricardo Montalban, Jimmy Durante and Cyd Charisse. While filming a movie in the South Pacific a Navy pilot (Lawford) kidnaps an aquatic movie star (Williams) and flies her to a private island hoping to woo her away from her co-star and fiance (Montalban).  Spoiler: he does end up with her.

The usual, "heck with accuracy" moments in the movie occurs, but one really jumps out at me.  Montalban is playing a US Navy pilot in the movie that they are filming in the plot.  Lawford plays an advisor for the movie they are filming as he is an actual Navy pilot.  He complains to the director that Montalban will not pass as a US Navy pilot because of his Spanish accent.  This is a funny statement as Lawford clearly has a British accent where he has been cast as the US Navy pilot. Secondly, Williams and Charisse have been tanned up to play islanders.  Both Williams and Charisse are looking pretty good in the movie.

It was an OK movie for me.  Love the periiod color technology.

Skirts Ahoy! released in 1952 starring Esther Williams, Joan Evans and Vivian Blaine.  Unlucky in love, three women join the WAVES to see the world and meet men.

I wasn't too crazy about hits one.  Again, like the 1950's color technology.

Dangerous Mission released in 1954 starring Victor Mature with Piper Laurie and Vincent Price.  A young woman flees to Montana's Glacier National Park after seeing a mob slaying in New York.  Price is sent there to knock her off and Mature is there to catch the killer.

I enjoyed this movie for the most part.  Interesting to see how the city-slickers dressed up for western adventures.  Plus it was fun to watch Mature wrestle with a down, live power line.  Spoiler: he should be dead!  And again, I really like the color look of these early movies.

Dead Reckoning released in 1947 starring Humphrey Bogart with Lizabeth Scott and Morris Carnovsky.  A World War II hero solves his buddy's murder, starting with a singer and a nightclub owner.

I really enjoyed this movie.  A classic Bogart role. Scott reminds me of Bacall.

Citizen Kane released in 1941 starring Orson Welled with Joseph Cotten and Ruth Warrick. Enigmatic newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane rises, falls and leaves behind a riddle with his dying breath.

Yep, I understand why this movie is so good.

I watch a lot of old movies.  There are several take-aways I gather from them but two that really stand out are:

1.  The people are much younger than what they appear on camera.  I will look at their age when a movie was made and am always surprised at how young they actually are.  Did all people just look older then?

2.  It seems like all of the leading men were usually always much older than the starlets.

Spielberg made this observant when making Saving Private Ryan. Most soldiers were under 21 but looked 35. Today, we have 25 years olds easily pulling off roles of teens. As a result, he hired mostly Australians as extras since he thought that was the one place where youngsters looked much older than their American peers. Probably due to all the sun damage since birth.

Major League kicks ass.  If we want to throw out overrated baseball movies the list starts with Field of Dreams.

Field of Dreams isn’t really a baseball movie. It’s about life and faith told through fantasy and has ghosts. There’s maybe one real baseball scene in the movie and it’s still just a scrimmage or something. Killer score and really well acted. I’ve grown to like it more and more as I get older.

In A League of their Own when the Jon Lovitz character is pressing the farmgirl milkmaid to join up, and he shows her with arithmetic how much more $ she would make playing ball, and she still is uncertain, into the uncomfortable silence he says, as if speaking to a moron, "And that would be MORE, wouldn't it?!", I always lose it.  Fucking cracks me up.
