The new Tim Love restaurant atop a Stockyards-area hotel opens this weekend, just in time for the Stock Show and Rodeo.

Ático (“attic”), 2315 N. Main St., is a tapas bar with a rooftop view.

It only serves small plates. (If you want a big dinner, go across the street to Lonesome Dove Western Bistro.)

But the menu is generous, featuring a venison salami flatbread, grilled oysters, charcuterie and tacos with Ibérico ham and caviar.

The bar is billed as Barcelona-style, with a sprawling view of both downtown Fort Worth and the Stockyards.

The menu also offers grilled fish, a lime-garlic Spanish pork tenderloin, ham or brisket croquetas and pan con tomate.

Ático will serve dinner weekdays, brunch and dinner weekends; 682-255-5100, marriott.com.

All the old housewives that hate Emily Jones are going to have multiple locations.

Hey, Bud! What’s going into Montgomery Plaza in the old deli space? I see construction.

That space at 501 Carroll St. is about to become the home of yet another new Alabama-based Chicken Salad Chick, replacing a Baker Bros. It’ll open soon, but first comes the new Chicken Salad Chick, opening Jan. 28 at 6124 Camp Bowie Blvd.

A man died after being shot inside a bar in south Fort Worth on Saturday night, police said.

At about 9:30 p.m., officers received a shooting call to the La Botica Bar in the 3700 block of Hemphill Street. They found a man lying on the floor inside the bar with a gunshot wound, Fort Worth police Officer Ivan Gomez said.

The victim had been in an argument with another man when the man shot him, police said. The suspect fled from the bar in a car, and the victim died at the hospital.

The victim’s name had not been released Sunday morning.

Homicide detectives are interviewing a person of interest, Gomez said.

Yeah, I helped defend a murder case over there about 10 years ago where our guys robbed and killed the clerk at a convenience store on Hemphill closer to I-20.  Been avoiding the area ever since.

Even better if you just break it down to bars in FW. 12th with Omni/Billy Bob’s/Joe T’s/Bucks/Del Frisco’s/Reata ahead, which ain’t exactly their competition.

Is Premier Hospitality at 2901 Stadium Dr all TCU football booze sales? They had Ok St/K St/OU at home in Oct.

Chef Tim Love’s bar menu features a choice of clever small plates. Go with the flatbreads ($12-$14), the charcuterie plate ($22) or the Ibérico ham-and-egg ($14).

Who can resist brisket croquettes ($14)? Or the Spanish-style french fries with ranchero sauce and aioli ($10)?

Who's been to a Shake Shack before?

Quote

A new location of New York-based Shake Shack will open at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Fort Worth Stockyards, the first business to open in the remodeled Mule Alley shopping complex.

The new Shake Shack is at 122 E. Exchange Ave., across from Cowtown Coliseum in the middle of Fort Worth’s cowboy-town-turned-Western-shopping center.

The original Shake Shack burger-and-shake grill opened in 2004 in New York’s Madison Square Park, and now has more than 180 locations in the United States and overseas.

It moved into the DFW market in late summer 2016 with an Uptown Dallas location that has proved to be very popular (the New York locations are known to have out-the-door lines).

Besides the Shackburger, the company now promotes its Chicken Shack sandwich. The Stockyards location also will serve its own frozen custard concretes with vanilla or chocolate custard, including a S’mores concrete or a “Pie Oh My” vanilla custard with a seasonal pie mixed in.

A nickel of every $1 from Pie Oh My concretes will be donated to Alliance for Children agency, the company said.

Texas Shake Shack locations also serve a “Link Burger,” a burger with jalapeno-cheese sausage.

The description from the press release is New York over-the-top: “Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches and griddled flat-top dogs (no hormones or antibiotics – ever), fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. A fun and lively community gathering place with widespread appeal, Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following around the world.”

The company is proud of eco-friendly construction such as wooden booths certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and tabletops from salvaged walnut tables.

If you’re wondering — yes, this is the restaurant to which chef Tim Love paid tribute with his Love Shack Burgers. The two restaurants are now a half-block apart on Exchange.

Shake Shack is open for lunch and dinner daily; 817-885-5420, shakeshack.com.

A kitchen fire broke out early Thursday morning inside of a west Fort Worth barbecue restaurant located in a Camp Bowie West strip shopping center, severely damaging the business and sending thick black smoke into the air.

There were no reported injuries. But Spring Creek Barbecue, which was set to open for lunch at 11 a.m., will be closed indefinitely for repairs, owner Chris Carroll said.

Firefighters responded to the restaurant in the 8600 block of Camp Bowie West Boulevard around 4:45 a.m., Mike Drivdahl, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman, said. Although they encountered “heavy” and “thick” smoke that reduced visibility, he said, they discovered the fire was originating from the rear of the building in the kitchen.

They had the blaze under control within 30 minutes, he said. But the department still signaled for more units to respond, he said, in part due to the size of the building and the fact it’s situated alongside several other businesses in the strip mall at Camp Bowie West and Las Vegas Trail.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, which was mostly destroyed and turned black and charred, he said. The rest of the restaurant sustained heat, smoke and water damage.

“Our goal is to clean this thing up as quickly as possible and reopen,” Carroll said. The location was the second in the Arlington-based Spring Creek chain and opened almost 40 years ago, he said.

Around 60 firefighters were on-scene Thursday morning putting out the fire, dealing with the hazy and smoky conditions, Drivdahl said. The fire was out by around 5:20 a.m.

“Any time that you have a large building that is full of that thick, black, dense smoke, our firefighters are challenged with visibility,” he said. “Knowing those buildings makes a big difference.”

He noted when he was a member of the Station 23 battalion that responded first Thursday morning, he remembers inspecting this building in the strip mall.

It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the fire Thursday morning but investigators were on the scene, Drivdahl said.

Spring Creek Barbecue has more than 30 locationsacross Texas, according to its website.

Any suggestions for cool places to eat or drink between FW and Dallas? I have a group of friends that’s spread around DFW and every time we get together it ends up being a boring chain restaurant in Euless or whatever. We desperately need a better option.

Get weird. Caves Lounge.

I’ve eaten at two. The last time was under Madison Square Garden last April prior to the NIT.  It’s good, I really enjoyed it. I’d rather go to Dutch’s or Kincaid’s or Tommy’s, but I really enjoyed it.

The Shake Shack in DFW Airport, I believe Terminal C, is comically expensive. Even for an airport joint.

I didn't get the hype. Pathetic little overcooked patties.

60 firefighters? WTF, I don't think there were that many on scene during the chemical warehouse fire at the end of Backdraft.

Bar Louis on West 7th shut down this past weekend, part of a national bankruptcy where they closed 1/3 or their locations.

Ba ha ha ha. that place stayed open WAAAAAY longer than I expected it would. I guess it helped to have that corporate bankroll, but now that's gone too.

Remember that first place that was in there, before Bar Louie?  The Irish pub with seating for 1500 people and a seventeen page menu. Fucking ridiculous. I don't know how these places get investors.

We've been making an effort to try new places around town lately:

Bearded Lady (South Main) - pretty cool vibe, nice beer list including Austin Beerworks (only place I know in town that has that)

Black Cat Pizza (South Main) - pizza by the slice, decent but not great

Roots Coffee (South Main) - small but nice - lots of new coffee shops in South Main btw

Southside Cellars (South Main) - beer and wine shop, good selection of beer taps, nice lounge space to drink in

Game Theory (South Main) - bar and restaurant with huge selection of board games to play, might be a fun way to spend a cold or rainy afternoon

Blackland Distillery (Foundry District) - great vibe inside, good cocktails and service, didn't try any of their spirits straight as that isn't really my thing these days

38th and Vine (Foundry District) - interesting place with self-serve wine dispensers, nice people

Tokyo Cafe (Camp Bowie) - we had sushi and it was just okay

The Meat Board (Camp Bowie) - a cool little butcher shop in the Ridglea area with a nice selection of meats and fixings, friendly people (although they are Aggies), prices were comparable to Central Market

There's also a new place called Wishbone and Flynt that's opened in South Main that I would like to try. They have a speakeasy bar area behind the restaurant called the Amber Room. The owner/chef previously worked at Max's Wine Dive and wanted to do something different. He let us look around before they had opened and the atmosphere of both the restaurant and the speakeasy looked cool. Not sure what the food quality or prices will be like.

I went there for the first time last week. Great people. The steak I bought was good, on par with Central Market’s prime selection. The butcher gave me a sample of their house rub to use, but I forgot to use it. I liked their selection. The butcher came out from behind the counter to ask me how I wanted my rib eye cut. Didn’t even prompt him. They know their stuff.

Joe T's just prints money. God only knows what it's like to count that much cash after a Saturday night. like a damn casino. Shitty food does not get in the way.

I’ve always liked the food. The nachos are great. They really should bottle that jalapeño relish and sell it. It’s the best I’ve ever had. The enchiladas are simple but I like that. Good cheese with a simple tomato sauce is damn good. The beans and rice are probably the best in town. The tacos are ok.

I get the fajita criticism. Although I do like how they put the beans and rice on the cast iron. More places should do that.

I’ve have been to an event there where I couldn’t tell the difference between the chicken or beef fajitas.  Seriously.

I don’t mind the chicken enchiladas but they aren’t something I ever crave.

To each his own though.  The family does a lot of charity work so I hope they continue to succeed.

The family is good to local charities.

They don’t have chicken enchiladas unless you’ve asked that they put fajita meat in the enchiladas. Is that a thing? Been going there 40 years and never seen such a thing.

One thing I have done is have them put an enchilada on top of the fajitas. That was awesome. Even better, had them put an egg on top of the enchilada on top of the fajitas. That was incredible.

I find most people who dislike Joe T’s are people expecting chili con carne enchiladas. That ain’t their deal.
