When I first saw the story it felt like a false flag/active measure.

Gay black man tortured on the streets of Chicago by homophobic MAGA idiots?   It’s just too divisive.

Obviously there’s nothing to suggest this was anything but a man desperately seeking attention by pushing hard on the social and political fault lines.

However, the trolls in St Petersburg would be proud of Smollett.

Yep. Because the daily dozens of acts of racism and racist crimes get utterly ignored and drowned out by one case like this.
Nobody asks the simple question: statistically, are there more acts of racism against minorities than there are “false claim” cases, or is it vice versa? To those who want it to be, the exception is the rule. All future cases can be ignored, because “remember that Smollett liar?” What a fucking dumbass.

It's pretty enlightening that the only time Surly Trump supporters speak up on this board is when they see a false flag situation and take a victory lap. Pathetic just to ignore everything else and focus their concerns on the smattering of dubious claims.

It’s what they have. Like has been said numerous times - they’re aggy. Dancing about a pointless tackle and whatnot.

The time stamp on that tweet is from over two weeks ago.

Maxine Waters clowns herself often but not in this case.   Her response to the initial report was appropriate.

Appropriately inaccurate.  Appropriate would be getting the facts before inappropriately denouncing the alleged perpetrators and inaccurately praising the alleged victim.  Crimes are appropriately assessed with the appropriate facts rather than a reflexive horse kick based on emotion.  Fuck her.  She's a legislator.  If she's too stupid to avoid traps then she needs to be less stupid and told to fuck off before lighting her own errant fuse.  We have enough of that shit going around and it's time to purge every dipshit who engages in that kind of idiocy.  She's a jabbering dolt.

We should listen to victims when they come forward.  We should offer support, compassion, and empathy.

Just because this incident turned out to be a likely hoax doesn’t me we need to dunk on those that showed support when the initial report came out.

Person to person, yes, offer support, compassion, and empathy. It doesn't mean you need to make a public statement.

Literally every sentence of her knee jerk tweet will turn out to be wrong.  And you want to credit her for her warmth and compassion and eagerness to cling to phony virtue based on concentrated bullshit so thick that it could only be thinned out by simply waiting on facts to emerge.  I get this sneaking suspicion that you'd be far less lenient if this was Loui Gohmert rather than Maxine Waters.  Props for being a loyal team player.  May the arrows of your tribe darken the skies against your enemies who never existed in the first place.  Being dumb was clearly the smart play here.

If you thought Maxine Waters reaction was inappropriate, wait until you see what Kamala Harris tweeted.

I think you’re being oblivious to the current environment among the minority communities right now.   They are kind of under attack from many sides including the government.  When reports emerge that a black celebrity was a victim of a hate crime, it’s the duty of the leaders of color to speak out against it because it’s the only power they have.

And nothing undermines struggle against bigotry more than false claims of bigotry.  One surefire strategy for not looking stupid is to not be stupid.  I'm sure your heart went out to all those real American's votes that were cheapened when false claims of voter fraud were levied.  But it's the thought that counts.  The people who displayed earnest concern to the problem that never existed in the first place are the real heroes.

The current environment in America is we are living in the Trump/troll era. Misinformation and insincerity is running rampant, and clearly it's not strictly a far-right issue.

Our sensibilities are being attacked on a constant basis. People in public office need to recognize and respond appropriately, not quickly and emotionally.  We need more critical thinkers instead of emotional enablers.

What we need is to remember who is really to blame here.  Whether that’s Smollett or someone else hasn’t been determined.

What we don’t need to do is blame each other for being human and responding to a troubling story in a human way.  Everyone falls for fake news sometimes.  EVERYONE.

Don’t you see how this is playing out?  Leaders like Harris and Waters are getting tossed under the bus because they thought they were doing the right thing.  There is no evidence they were deliberately being malicious.

Meanwhile the MAGA idiots and their leaders spread intentional deceptive LIES.

You’re going to have to learn some forgiveness and let these petty mistakes go.

They were emotionally reactionary and knew the base would praise them for quickly making public statements. It's not malicious obviously (where are you getting that insinuation?), it's just foolish.

When are we going to expect more from people holding public office? We need leaders, not cheerleaders.

The Republicans control all but the House and a majority of governorships and state houses.  That isn't much losing.

Done so by gerrymandered districts.

The representative of your government philosophy is Donald fucking Trump because y'all spent 8 years reeing about Obama. Your ideas are losers.

So, congrats I guess?

I’m conservative and voted for trump.  if the dems would just run a moderate who isn’t a fucking loon I’d probably vote for them, and so would a lot of people on the fence.

it’s a shame that won’t happen.

Well, I don’t want a moderate at all. I’m a total liberal. Liberal ideas aren’t crazy, we just need the right voice to express them. There are some decent options right now.

And no offense, but I don’t trust the Republican “I’d vote for a D moderate” bit at all. Hillary was a moderate and you voted for the comic book villain.

I thought he was a new york democrat when I voted for him.  I don’t know what he is now, but I know he’s never been a conservative.

hillary was just such an unbelievably vile piece of shit.  if you lefty clowns would get your shit together things could change in 2020.

I really don’t know.  I don’t know a whole hell of a lot about beto but I know he can be appealing when he gives a speech.  if he’s not a socialist I could see a lot of people voting for him that didn’t vote for hillary.  there have to be better options though.  I’m very curious to see who y’all put up next year.

You dont know if Beto is a socialist? 100 million dollars was just spent in Texas on his race and you don't know? Do you think you may already have your mind made up?

no I don’t know if he’s a socialist.  socialist democrats have been elected in this country.  AOC is a socialist and your party is firmly behind her, trying to make her a star.

keep it up.  more trump.
