LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the closure of all gaming operations and urged other non-essential businesses to do the same for 30 days, some businesses have decided to stay open.

Little Darlings, a strip club in Las Vegas is one of the non-essential businesses that remains open. 8 News NOW reached out to them, and the club sent the following statement:

“I’m not sure what the problem is, but Little Darlings is abiding by all Social Distancing Guidelines suggested by the government. As a fixture in Las Vegas for 30 years, we will remain open and continue to offer nude dancing. For those guests who request further separation, we will be offering drive thru strip shows starting tomorrow. America is a free country, and strippers will continue to be a part of the fabric of American life.”

Which casinos don’t ever reopen?

As hard as this is to fathom, some of the Caesar's empire.  El Dorado is mortgaged up to the hilt, and the deal isn't finalized.  If the deal collapses because of this, then watch out.

Pick one on Fremont Street.

Wynn and Sands will be ok, eventually.  Their overseas ventures should help them weather the storm.

MGM should be ok as well.

Not sure about the locals scattered out and about (Station, etc).  It's gotta be tough for them.

On top of that, how busy if the first weekend going to be when they finally reopen everything?  It's only been closed a couple of days and I already have the itch to go out, plus all the people that cancelled March Madness and Draft trips.

That's what I was thinking.  We had planned our first trip to Vegas the 2nd week of July.  Either, everything will be closed OR things will be getting back to normal and absolutely packed.  Obviously, I'd choose the latter.

Been wondering about the night time views...surely a lot of the lights have been kept off

Friend of my wife who lives in Vegas put up a short video on Facebook from this evening; he was standing on the bridge between Planet Hollywood and Cosmo.

Everyplace had their lights on still.  The Bellagio fountains, however, are. not running.

Interview with Wynn CEO about paying employees during the Vegas shutdown

Fuck that guy.  Not saying I agree or disagree with what he’s saying, but he’s done nothing but run that place into the ground since he took over.  Granted, Steve had some really big shoes to fill.  But Matt Maddox‘s young inexperienced ass hasn’t even come close.

So I've had a few.  Hit my host up and set me up for Memorial Day.  Fuck it.  He was pumped thinking I'm a doc so MDW must be a fucking go.  He should know better, seeing me as he has.  I really don't gamble much...doesn't do much for me.  I have friends who do and tip the hell out of our guy so he seems to be able to comp me a lot more than he should, for what I play.  I am a total degenerate blowing money on everything else so I'm sure it helps.

Anyways, it's therapeutic just booking a damn trip with the shitshow we all are stuck in right now.  Do yourselves a solid and at least pencil something in.  The amount of xanax we'll all need in 3 weeks scares the shit out of me.

Considering July 4th weekend - any chance the pools will be open by then?

Obviously nobody knows for sure on the timing right now so it’s pure speculation but seems like internally the casinos are currently looking around May to reopen. Online, some are taking bookings for late April which doesn’t really mean a lot but it’s technically available to reserve a room.

Not sure how fast each casino will be able to open and it may vary. Sounds like MGM just furloughed a ton (bulk?) of their employees and they are the largest private employer in Nevada.

Right I'm thinking Memorial Day is the earliest point at which things start to normalize. Maybe some small casino openings with limited capacity on the margin before then

Sounds like me to a T.  Seemed to help a lot more when Steve Wynn was still around.  Since then...not so much.

Hang in there, man.  For guys whose main hobbies are traveling, dining and drinking (not necessarily in that order), this definitely sucks.  But, let's remember there are ton of people who have it a lot worse than we do right now.

You can remind me of this in a couple weeks when I'm begging you to call me in a xanax Rx.

I was on a call earlier with REDACTED at MGM, here are the highlights:

Reservations are being taken for 4/17 and moving forward. This is obviously fluid.
Conventions for May – July will have convention business, but it will be building throughout the period.
Conventions August – October are very strong.
Entertainment slated to begin May 11. This is obviously fluid.

Something you don't think of during this shutdown, but it's both food and travel (sort of):

https://www.fox5vegas.com/coronavirus/farm-scraping-by-to-feed-pigs-without-las-vegas-strip/article_36332c44-6ff2-11ea-a485-079755158304.html

Quote

A Las Vegas farm relied on strip casinos as its main food source for 4,000 pigs. Now it's getting creative to keep them full.

"Pigs are a lot like us so they love sweets, candies, ice cream," Las Vegas Livestock co-owner Hank Combs said. "They like meat and potatoes. They're not a big fan of salads and produce, but they will eat it.

On a normal day, the farm would get 20 tons of food from casinos and restaurants across the valley. Once the strip shut down and casinos closed, their food source was cut off.

"You know we're just one of the many stories out there in the world and I'm just trying to survive, keep the pigs fed, keep the employees employed," Combs said.

Quote

Combs said they are reaching out to other valley restaurants, grocery stores and warehouses. They normally fed five to seven times a day.

The farm is still selling pigs , but they won't buy anymore until they can find the food for them.

"We really don't know when it's going to stop. It could go on for another four or five weeks, six weeks," Combs said it all depends on when Las Vegas bounces back and the Strip reopens.

By mid-April, Combs estimates he'll only have 2,000 pigs, half the amount he normally has.

"The question is can you recover right?" Combs said. "Are you going to be able to have the numbers, the cash to buy the pigs, be able to sustain it? All of that's unanswered questions."

My host reached out a couple days ago which would never happen under normal circumstances (one trip a year, not much comped other than room). I imagine with the shutdown and a couple months without Chinese whales, they’re all hurting and hungry to get people back.

I had the same thought on Memorial Day, but my family vacation the week following got canceled...so may pick a random weekend in June since I’m not trying group time off together.

My son & DIL cancelled their mid March trip and rebooked for Memorial Day. They like to stay at the Aria.

Thought you were a Wynn/Encore guy?

I really was but I slowly switched over as Wynn himself got less and less involved...so maybe 3-4 years ago?  The bungalows on the golf course are nice but other places really started passing them by for the better penthouses/suites.  We actually boozed with Wynn a couple times...just knew some people close to him.  I think I still have a couple pics from cabanas 6-7 years ago.  Everyone knows he's blind as shit but he didn't like people knowing it so when he was boozing and winding his way around EBC it was touch and go with his gf and security trying to keep his ass out of the pool.  Good times.

Yeah, I've been searching for a replacement for a while too.  Pretty much ever since Steve got the boot.  I'll have to check out Nomad next time.

Just remembered this.  My own pic of the legend himself.  Didn't ever really hang out with him per se...buddy of mine introduced us on one of our trips a few years ago and we were around him briefly a couple different times throughout that weekend.  Blind as a fucking bat, but he definitely had a well trained crew to be his eyes for him.  When we met, I saw someone whisper in his ear as I was approaching and the first thing he says after the normal "nice to meet you" and handshake is "I like your shirt - is that black or navy" despite not having a fucking clue what my shirt looked like.  It was just a plain black t-shirt, nothing special.  Then the next time we were around him, I think 2 days later, his wife whispered in his ear before we got close and I'll be damned if he didn't act like he knew exactly who I was and mentioned my shirt from 2 days ago.  Hospitality king right there.  Man, I miss the good ole days...some great times at that place.

Two of the biggest attractions in the Las Vegas area remain closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Early last week, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Scenic Drive was closed until further notice, according to the organization’s website.

Officials have expanded the closures to also include the overlook, late night trailhead, Red Spring picnic area and boardwalk and all campsites at Red Rock Campground. The visitors center is also closed.

On March 17, the Hoover Dam was closed to all visitors, the Bureau of Reclamation said.

Also, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area announced more closures last week to park operations on Sunday in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
