Tao? Now.

The mega-nightclub at The Venetian has announced it will reopen as a traditional nightclub Saturday. Tao Nightclub, specifically, is taking reservations for its May 1 relaunch. The club is selling tickets and tables for late-night party activity in its primary, 12,000-square-foot nightclub venue.

Now, Tao has already been hosting its Late Night parties, including Worship Thursdays, since this spring. The club has hosted activity in the club space as far back as October, as smaller-scale hangs in its lounge space.

But on May 1, Tao Group is officially returning the term “nightclub” to the formal title of its nightlife events.

The club’s hours are listed at 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., with unspecified (likely local) DJs providing entertainment. The company states on its Instagram account, “All ticket holders will have a seated area inside the venue and all safety measures will be followed as we continue to work with all state guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.” More info is at taolasvegas.com/events.

On the cabana front, Tao Beach remains under extensive renovation and is set to be ready in time for pool season 2022.

A Texas man arrested Sunday on suspicion of DUI first caught law enforcement’s eye as he sped a rented Lamborghini past a Nevada Highway Patrol substation in Jean, headed the wrong way, according to an arrest report released Tuesday.

“The driver operated his vehicle with a willful and wanton disregard for the safety of himself, his passenger and the motoring public,” the report states.

According to the report, the sports car’s driver was throwing napkins, water bottles and other items out of his car as he headed the wrong way down Las Vegas Boulevard South near mile marker 12. He then pulled onto a dirt road.

Highway Patrol in a tweet Sunday reported that the driver of the pricey rental was “off-roading while impaired.”

On the dirt road, a Highway Patrol trooper pulled over the driver, later identified as Quentin Sargent, of Arlington, Texas.

Sargent, who is in his late 20s, smelled like alcohol, slurred his words as he spoke and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to the report. The trooper called for a DUI Strike Team unit to assist.

Sargent told police that he had not consumed any alcohol. He voluntarily gave a blood sample, which was submitted to a forensic lab on Monday, court records show.

Sargent was arrested on a felony DUI charge, since he had prior DUIs, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. He also faces misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way road, speeding more than 21 mph over the posted speed limit, driving without a drivers license and littering.

Court records show that Sargent posted bail on Monday and has a court hearing scheduled for May 26.

MSG group bought Omnia - may experience a bit of a resurgence at Tao.  That was the hot 'megaclub' when I was first able to blow money in Vegas.  Those were the days...

We have a massive group for July 4.  Gonna try to book it all at Resorts World as previously stated.  I'll try to post any details here but we should have best spots at all the day and nightclubs (Tiesto still has it) there that weekend so I'm expecting quite the shitshow.

Edit: Tiesto wears a Texas hat often.  It’s a bit like his logo and the couple times we hung out I gave him shit.  Here’s a FaceTime w a buddy and him repping you assholes.  Great dude.

Chitown, how was the process of getting things set up at Resorts World? They assigned you a casino host who booked for you? I assumed they are mostly ready to go with key employees in place but just curious. The CEO was a long time executive with MGM and probably pulled some decent staff over to start. One of my best friends just signed a huge contract to work with Resorts World.

That 4th of July weekend gonna be like the Super Bowl out there.

I actually just text my old contact who sets everything up regardless of where we stay - I should have some details this week.  I told them to look into the bigger suites for us.  We'll drop any amount going out but none of us gambles like a whale so we'll see what they come up with.  It's been a long time since not being a whale really affected what we got - don't get me wrong, it's not comped but I'm happy to pay vs be expected to gamble 10k hands for hours.  Fuck that noise.

Gotcha. Yeah there are all kinds of setups and arrangements to get suites cabanas bottle service etc.

I’m just a degenerate cash money poker player which basically gets me some food comps. But I lean on my contacts for other hookups and it works out nicely for me usually.

I haven't been to Vegas in probably 20 years and I'm thinking about a trip this fall.  I'd like to spend a Saturday in a sport book betting on and watching college football.  What do I need to know to make that happen?

First two items would be where do you want to stay and which sports book? They could be the same but don’t have to be. So figure out if you want the higher end or mid-priced places or do you want the more locals feel. My guess is you want one of the big on the Strip spots. So investigate places like Wynn, Caesars, Westgate, Circa, MGM Grand, Aria, Bellagio.

Some differences in the sports books but they generally operate the same. Keep in mind that while you can place bets in person, you can now download a betting app for most of the casinos and place bets that way if you prefer. You might get some first time betting bonus cash that way.

Next thing to look into is booking a seat for that college football Saturday. Call the sports book in advance and ask how that works. Most of the big spots are now charging for a seat during peak times.

Post any other questions here and maybe we can help.

Unsolicited recommendation for anyone interested in some Vegas history, this 2014 book details the Texas background and rise to prominence of gaming legend Benny Binion. Fascinating read. Goes into his shenanigans around DFW area and then on to Vegas. If you search hard enough, there are still a few old timers around who interacted with him and have stories to tell.

This recent tweet from poker legend Doyle Brunson reminded me of Binion and the book. Tony Spilotro is the Joe Pesci character in the movie Casino.

Back in the late 80's the radio station I worked for did a promotion with Binion's for a contest. I remember the name Vic Vickory and the fact he was from Texas coming up a lot. No idea what that means.

Google search shows a few articles about him. Casino host originally from Texas. Also:

Vic is credited with being a co-founder of the World Series of Poker. Tom Moore and Vic Vickrey, in 1969, held the Texas Gambler’s Reunion in Reno. The following year the reunion was moved to Las Vegas and hosted by Benny Binion. The event was dubbed the World Series of Poker and the rest is history.

I read it. Binion was a murdering piece of shit, to be sure. His feud with the guy whose wife he blew up and then eventually blew up the guy himself after like 8 attempts on his life should have had Binion and his boys going to the fucking chair. I found it interesting, nonetheless.

wonder if that guy KC (card counting dude trekking across US in an RV) from the netflix doc is crushing it with the mask mandate and he can hide his face.  some of that doc showed that casinos were starting to use face rec software to see through his disguises.

anyway, it's exciting seeing stuff re-open

100%. I find the historical background of Vegas fascinating and the evolution into what it has become today. So many colorful stories of the characters who shaped the town or spent time there.

It’s hard to get excited about a BBQ restaurant from a L.A. chef who grew up in New Jersey and specializes in Northern Italian cuisine.
