Local Raiders fans are going to be sol. It's going to be 98% out of town high rollers/corporate/fans.

This. They will print money, but the downside is that there will be zero home field advantage.

Some years back people were openly questioning on Shag why the Raiders would even bother to move to Vegas.  Not a pro town, they said.  Will be a flop.  People would rather gamble.

To be fair, no one ever said that no stupid people post here

Same was said about the Golden Knights. How wrong they were. Great home ice advantage, pricey tickets. Not Raider pricey, though.

Gotcha.  I figured March Madness would be different, but since it was April, I wasn't even thinking about football.  They sure as shit don't show futbol.  I asked about El Classico, since it was being played while we were there, and they wouldn't show it.  The United Tottenham match the next day was a "no go" too.

That's strange. The Aria absolutely shows soccer matches when were there and sometimes F1 racing as well.

I watched Chelsea steal one in the 92nd minute from Man City this past weekend at the Aria SB.

I met the Raiders owner this weekend through a mutual connection. The guy with the terrible hair cut. He was just about the nicest billionaire you could ever meet. I don’t know anything about him besides being Al Davis’ son, but he seemed like a really nice guy.

Out of curiosity- how many billionaires have you met?
I was talking to someone the other day and they were like- every billionaire I’ve met has been associated with ....  I realize I’ve never met a 3 comma guy (in a substantive way) only guys worth 8 and 9 figures.

I have “met” probably 6-8 in non-meaningful ways. I have 3 others who either are or are close enough to that level that there isn’t a distinction who are business partners and business friends of mine, all self-made.

And then there is my adult daughter, who married, late last summer, the scion of a well-known family covered by Forbes and everyone on this board would know. So I guess I know one group of them pretty fucking well, but that’s a product of bizarre fairy tale stuff.

That’s some pretty interesting stuff. Out of curiosity- how strange does it feel to be the poor relation/ black sheep?  When there is get together at the in-laws etc (or does that just not ever happen?).
I’d have to think it’s pretty odd to be shaggy 1% obviously doing really well for yourself and then having a kid marry into a situation where the in-laws could buy and sell you 100 times over.

Well, they live in a fortress in California, so not much mingling with the in-laws for us other than ahead of the wedding and the wedding itself on their estate. According to Forbes and my own financials, it looks like they could buy and sell me 1500 times over.  I’m happy for her, she has a crazy life story, but to explain further would really derail the Vegas thread.

So, uh, you wanna hang out?

How the fuck are they going to enforce that policy? My assumption is that everything comes down and they simply deal with the fallout.

Yep. Gonna be same issue with any retailers who implement this hybrid policy of masks for unvaccinated people. Gonna get old very quickly and then likely it moves to fuck the masks altogether.

Open up the nightclubs and crank up the music, it’s go time.

Cross posting this from the Gambling board just in case someone here doesn't visit there.

Heading to Vegas in a few weeks, staying at Palazzo. Taking my sister and her daughter (no pics) and want to show them a good time for their first Vegas trip. I have dinners, shows, pool cabana, etc. plans taken care of. I'll gamble at Palazzo and other places on the Strip, but I would like to get them some gambling experience for low dollars. They don't have much money and will be scared off by high minimums. Would like to take them somewhere that's fun, reasonably nice and not too gross, hopefully a short cab ride from the Palazzo, that has low table limits. I've heard that limits under $25 are pretty much impossible to find on the Strip right now and even hard to find downtown. I'm thinking some sort of nicer locals place maybe.

Ideas?

I spend almost all of my daytime gambling hours at the Casino Royale. It pretty much a dump, but the lowest minimum and best Craps odds on the Strip (at least to my knowledge)

Is that a shot at the poors that have taken over Vegas or something else?

That was my take.

The person(s) behind that Twitter account are pretty dialed in to all things Vegas, so when they put up something, there's some truth to it.

Yes. Over the past year with room rates way down, the clientele has not been the usual gamblers and tipping has been terrible apparently. Should likely change as rates are headed back higher. And the restaurant folks are really hoping for the return of the conference/convention business. Unfortunately restaurants are struggling to hire back workers, like everywhere else in the country right now.

Looks like I'll be on of those conference attendees in late October.

I just booked flights for a trip in late July.  Anyone seen in good golf or food-room packages that they thought was a good deal or just any good specials for accommodations?

I will try to post something if I see it but if you have a players card for MGM or Wynn or Caesars etc then log in to their websites and see what deals they might be offering for when you are going. Also they will email you some deals so sign up for accounts now and the email list if you aren’t getting it now.

Planning a trip for late September/early October and was thinking one of the suites at Encore but haven't been in awhile (thanks Covid).  If you want to go medium baller style (not quite Chitown ville) where would you stay, what would you do?  What are the good shows to go to, restaurants, etc? Gambling is important but mainly only play craps and blackjack.  Spa for the wife is important.  Cabana at pool is important but we are 44 so don't need the debauchery at the super party pools. Appreciate any recommendations.
